No, not the show
One of the things that got me into Eve was reading about alliance wars, etc. I'm sure it rings true for most of us.
Despite reading up on the rise of certain alliances, I've never been able to find out just how BOB became so powerful. Whilst I am sure that they had a large number of skilled pilots, there seems to be little material on any catalyst that propelled them to power, for a time at least.
Their downfall conversely is well documented, but if anyone can shed some light on the reasons, tactics or decisions that shaped BOB's growth, I'd very much like to hear them. Hearing from ex-BOB members would be an obvious plus.
Thanks in advance for any constructive replies.

Whenever anyone utters "Band of Brothers" all you ever get are trolls, trolls and more trolls
The key to the former Band Of Brother's success was that there were far less members of "BOB" then people think. Imagine something like 200-250 real-life people, all of whom have multiple accounts (multiple as in at least 2,3 or more)
Ultimately, it is much easier to coordinate say, 50-ish intelligent pilots commanding multiple accounts (capital ship fights don't require a great deal of thought) then it is to FC a couple hundred individual egos.
The former Band Of Brothers claim to fame was the ability to "follow orders and hit the primary" extremely well. This was why the equally former Goonswarm gave them the nickname Little Bees. And one of the big reasons why they were able to do that, is because there were less real life brains sitting behind real life computer screens then there were digital space ships flying in their blob.

1) high level of organization
This came in 2 flavours. They were very organized themselves. Additionally they hired mercenaries that were highly specialized and organized (mercenary coalition).
On a side note: afaik some BoB pilots had been "gaming" friends before they started playing eve. This out of game connection is something that helped Goonswarm be succesful aswell. Hence the BBQ comment is actually quite correct.
2) determination
They were determined to be the most powerful organization and therefore stomped every other alliance that could threaten them.
3) Isk
They managed to get control over the most valuable moons and made good use of it.
From what I heard BoB was quite the bully in its early years. Basically all things that later were associated with Goonswarm.

I'm pretty sure "little bees" refers to GoonSwarm members... Y'know, like a swarm of bees. Also see their alliance logo in their wiki entry.

Only when CCP gives me 20 free T2 BPO's will I get over it. If they also happen to make Delve a NPC region just for fun I'd be ok with that too.

All I can say is reading comprehension is out the window if you can't "comprehend" the meaning of a Youtube video complete with cartoon pictures and musical lyrics

Whenever a smaller alliance was defeated their core PvPers went to join BoB, they just needed to be on the winning team bad.

Don't be a brat. Outside the context of BoB's posting and leadership at the time, it is pretty hard to guess that the video is tongue-in-cheek.

Well, PART of the reason for BoB's great sucess was indeed the 'T20' incident AND the BBQs, but more importantly, the way of keeping the fellows happy by way of passing someone's wife around.
You see, a real life HVAC biz paid for the BBQs ( and several Titans it is said ), and someone's wife's "hospitality" at the BBQ functions kept the fellows happy................until............
The HVAC biz went teats up and the wife decided she'd had enough and took off for greener pastures, hooked up with a goon from many accounts told.............
SO, if you want to have YOUR alliance rocket to stardom in EvE, get buddy buddy with the devs, have your RL biz buy lots of shiny toys fo rthe alliance and make sure that you hold regular RL get togethers for the fellows and don't skimp on the "entertainment".
Now, of course, using your wife as said "entertainment" is always one of those grey areas..............just make sure she is really into that sort of thing, eh?
The rumor mill has it that the latest iteration of the BBQs and 'entertainment' are now revolving around what some call 'alternative lifestyles'.....you'd need to check with the finfleet fellows about that one, they are in fact experts in the field.
