Edited by: TV Evangelist on 04/04/2010 22:30:40 Gallente are WAAAY op with high dps blaster ships. This is largely because armor tanking compliments blaster setups SO WELL! Blasters The damage of blasters is so far and away better than lasers or autocannons that it MORE than makes up for their range advantage. Lasers and AC's are further hampered by the prevalence of NULL ammo.
Railguns Railguns get the advantage of having SPECTACULAR dps AND volley damage. All the while benefiting from SPIKE ammo which gives a HUGE range advantage to gallente bs!
Armor Tanking Armor tanking really helps with the philosophy of use for gallente. Combined with a MWD it gives them unmitigated KENYAN speed towards their target, TONS of low slots left for damage mods, as well as HUGE amounts of EHP to give it time to deal it's OP blaster damage with no way for the target to escape the onslaught due to OP webs.
This cannot be tolerated any longer.

If this is a cunning metatroll to get CCP to boost Gallente, then this is win.

Gallente combat philosophy is awful.
Slow armor boats with short range weapons and active tank bonuses. Drone boats aren't as bad (Slow armor boats with medium range weapon systems that do ok to mediocre damage but can fit buffer, or go shield tanked and pick up some speed.) but turrets are preferable over drones these days
Long ago this made sense. In an environment with few blobs active tanking outpreforms buffer setups. High dps to break active tanks is required, and you're less likely to get ganked.
But now you need to be very fast to not get blobbed and ganked while solo. Armor sucks for this. Even with cloaks armor tankers are much less survivable. This is basically the reason Gallente have difficulty solo. Thats not even getting into the difficult question of if a active rep blaster setup will win a fair fight against a simular opponent.
And in blobs 'active tanking' equates to 'instapop,' and 'short range high dps' equates to 'no dps on target before it explodes.' In really big blobs when you switch over to rails you get the joy of hybrids in the form of rails, which equate to 'has few benefits but all the penalties associated with all types of turrets.'

A nerf Gallente thread, never though I'd see the day.
Tell me, which other race has these three advantages:
Very close range (needs MWD to even get there, that's some cap, this also makes fitting plates harder) Active tanking (hey, more cap lost) Weapons that use cap (Hmmm, all my mids are used by boosters, but I have no cargo to actually take enough with me, with the cargo for my ammo) There also is the large sig, made all the worse when MWDing, and largish inertia.

You're going about this totally the wrong way. Gallente needs stealth nerfs, which is how CCP likes to do it to them.
For instance we could put a stacking penalty on trimarks, make 1600mm RT worse than 1600mm II, or reduce MWD speed to 400% because people keep fitting them waaaay more often than Afterburners still.
I'm sure there are other ways to stealth nerf as well without ever touching hybrids or hybrid ammo.

I'd prefer the weapon system used by two of the four races at all ship sizes gets fixed first, not that either of our preferences matter.
And sadly, I haven't seen any mention for a Tyrannis fix for either of the weapon types...

l2p ur class n00b! If you want decent range from your blasters, load your blasters into your railguns and fire them out the railguns. There's a reason why Gallente have huge cargo holds.

In all honesty, i think CCP might have dropped the ball on this one. i doubt the terrible performance of Gallente is intentional, but every time something is nerfed it is tied inextricably to gallentean tactics and ship fittings.
A great deal of the problems with Gallente is also attributable to a lack of attention. CCP has had a lot on their plates as of late, and most of the problems with the way Gallente play are simply due to changes in the world around them. As underdogs get boosted, the game dynamic steadily changes. CCP's only fault is not realizing that and keeping tabs on each race, not just the one they like this week.
that said, Tyrannis should include a gallente boost, even if they have to work overtime to put it in. Gallente need that boost badly

Excellent metatroll
Not sure enough if 2012 will be too early for CCP to boost Gallente (without messing up or nerfing the other races) considering the amount of work related with the planned, and business-oriented, two expansions per year.
Actually with the first stages of Tyrannis on sight I doubt they have any slot available to even consider this in their priority list tbh, without forgetting DUST and its announced interaction with EVE. All in all, too complex for not being messy at some point. Something that scares me, considering the problems we have right now after Dominion expansion with LAG and SovWarfare.
I 'd be more than welcome, as well as amazed, if they could do something about the topic with such an impressive task list hitting them on their calendar. Honestly.

Well, whats the solution to the Gallante problem?
For PVP, I would say extend the range of null. After all, Gallante armor tankers are inconvenienced enough by their armor buffered speed, why put them in such unfavorable situations? A damage bonus would be good, but would that lead to an overspamming of Shield tanked Thorax and Brutix?
For PVE, I would think they need a tech 2 ammo type that is actually useful. Blasters have WAY too short a range for NULL to be used, and Javelin ammo isn't useful at all. It can't track, it has no range, it (amazingly) further depletes your cap, and eliminates any chance your ship has at actually moving. Really CCP? It eliminates your speed AND has no range? I actually think it would be FAR more balanced if it increased your speed! That would actually be fun, have challenging range but an increased speed while it is equiped. Perhaps a capacitor drain while it is equipped! *ahem*. Anyway, I think I made my point, Javelin sucks. Why can't Gallante have something useful for PVE? Poor Kronos.
As a (shall we say, developing) gallante pilot, I feel there is no where to train to. Why train a race that has no useful weapons on many of its ships? When I started training gallante, I had no way to know gallante was (or would be) a dead race.
Because Gallante are the Washington Generals of EVE. |

*sigh* Brilliant really...
Will /Engineer1: "Are you shure 4 1600 Plates wont make this a bit slowish?" Gordon /Engineer2: "Well if they want to fight us, they will get closer than 2 km, no?" E1: "It's a battleship, Gordon..." E2: "So..." E1: "Well they tend to have about 50km ranges..." E2: "What? You're kidding right?" E1: "Nope" E2: "Well why would Fleet Command even ORDER such weapons and ships then, huh Mr Smartwill?" E1: "Because they are a bunch of dumb f*cks!" E2: *ducks* Speakerphone: "Dr Will, please proceed to the office right now. Dr. Will to the office."

IMHO give blaster ships a speed/agility boost so they can try to get in range with thier blasters easier.
I fly Gallente a lot (which is why I die a lot, nothing to do with me being a sucky at pvp, honest..) and I could see that making a fairly big difference.
When you get in range and can keep at just the right range blasters rock, the bit that makes them so damm hard to use is the fact that you have to get in range first.
