It's that question you ask at parties when you're stood shoulder to shoulder with strangers to break the silence I know lol... but I'm interested in what people that play this game do for some reason.
I'm a credit controller for a large multinational. It's a hybrid of accountancy, debt collection, customer relations and admin.
I've met all sorts in Eve. A lot of miltary guys, and a couple of medical doctors even. Met people that have never had a job, and are in college, I've met people who are retired. All sorts.
So what do you 'do'?

In the fall of '93, after 10 years service, I retired from the Canadian Forces. Since then, I've been employed as a miner. 17 years of 48 hour weeks surrounded by rock. Small wonder I haven't touched a mining laser since I finished the tutorial. ------- Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience. |

Currently I am unemployed but in the past I have worked in retail spending most of that time working in a supervisory role and I have worked in security. Just been offered a job as a doorman / bouncer in a nearby city as I am licensed but it's not the type of work I want so thinking it over. By the end of the year I will have applied for the Royal Navy so hoping to get a decent career there as a Submariner hopefully. 26 next month so a little ****ed off by the fact I have wasted so many years as far as career goes.

You're a spring chicken I have to rewrite my CV, will have to be applying for new jobs soon. I don't even like accounts that much, it was just a career that I fell into by circumstance and have continued to do for many years.
I don't know what I'd like to do really. I'd like to be a millionaire, or landlord maybe.

I work in a wellness center that runs under a physical rehabilitation hospital. I had been at one facility were the members were general fitness and we did speed/power/agility training with athletes. After missing 7 months of work since last May they had to replace me. Luckily someone stopped showing up for work at the other location, where I started with the company 3.5 years ago, so I did not end up loosing my job. At this location the fitness members tend to fall into the pathology classing. Many of the members suffer from various diseases, are post cardiac, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injuries.
So basically I am now the utility player. Since the location I left runs on a skeleton crew, two people for a 14 hour operating day, I will be the go to guy when someone gets sick or goes on vacation at the other site. Ultimately, I end up better off in this case
I have some crazy stories; unfortunately I am unable to speak of them

Electronics.
Love my job, hate my boss - standard so far. Cannot speak much over it, though :( Have to install, configure and explain the function (third is the most difficult part) things like motion sensors, breakage detectors, alarm wallpaper, shock analyzer...like i said. Very interesting, very demanding job. But you have to remain silent, even if you are drunk - if someone manages to break into a house/facility - we are the first where the police asks.
BIG HINT: If you want your house safe - get a real good door. And meshes on every window. Alarm systems are NOT able to prevent burglaries, they are meant to inform police and frighten the robbers away.

Retired Systems Administrator.
I got a Bachelors and Masters in History but then couldn't get a job so started working on an Engineering degree. I didn't finish that last degree but got far enough along to get a tech job as a computer programmer.
I worked on Main Frames and Micros mostly. Eventually parlaying my status as local micro computer expert to a Sysadmin job running computer labs.
I learned a lot about networking and a bunch of other stuff. Got to work with a lot of great people too.
It was a great career. I couldn't have been a happier.

I'm a mechanic and auto-electrician by trade. Spent about 10 years full time in the industry, including running a business with a friend for about 4 of those years until we're forced to close due to personal differences between the two of us for the most part.
Got into the security industry after that, a little work in crowd control/bouncing at local clubs on weekends and eventually ended up where I am now, working full time in security in the psych hospital of our state prison for the past few years. Sounds iffy, but it's actually a very lazy and well paying job for the most part with little trouble, although horrendous shift hours which in honesty have taken a major toll on my life outside of work (Need a new job!). We have 24/7 net access there however ^_^ and so my work/lifestyle has seen me online a LOT over the past 5 or 6 years, during which I've been blessed to get to contribute to one or two MMOs as a mod and sometimes tester, along with waste countless hours and dollars just gaming my life away. <3
During all this I've been enlisted with the army reserve on and off for around ten years. I'm currently inactive (too hard while working shifts :() but still enlisted.
It's nice (and interesting) to read above some similiar themes already in where some of us have come from.

Mechanical Engineering student, in my final year of school. For money I co-run a small performance development shop, mostly heavy mechanical car part installation. Engine builds, ECU tuning, etc. Ideally once I finish school I'm going to look into studying for some IT certs and look for a job in the database server development field. I'm a true geek at heart. ________

Currently I am a security guard but officialy I am a bouncer. Seems as soon as the SIA got around to giving me my licence (took seven months to process a bit of paper ) most of the clubs shut down thanks to the ressession. Come september though I hope to be back a college doing phisics and chemistry then getting into geology at university.

I'm a Senior Financial Analyst for a multi-national in the financial services industry.
My job is basically analyzing business unit results (P&L and key metrics) for a segment of the company on a market (read: individual country), regional and global/consolidated basis. Most of what I do is for internal consumption but some of my work makes it into the quarterly earnings releases for my company.
I love working for the company and enjoy the people I work with.
I got my undergraduate degree in political science and earned a Master's in Business Administration about a year and a half ago.
