Why does there always have to be some idiot posting crap like this when a router dies for 30 seconds.
I can hardly get my router to work right with the 3 computers I have in my house, frankly I'm not surprised they have some troubles once in a while running 60 machines plus routers plus database 23/7 with over 5000 average users.
So, lets recap. These posts don't help anything. Thanks.

My work runs more than 60 servers in a cluster with %99.9 uptime.... CPP has no excuse.

And what do you run on those servers? An MMOG with new content updates, a database with several terabytes of information and peak times with 12,000 people accessing the database and servers dozens of times a minute?

xelios, ccp is paying a hosting company to run their stuff. This is what is called a "professional" service, not some router in your home.
I think your defense of them, based on your inability to run a home network, is somewhat laughable. I too have a home network. Mine works, and includes a mail server running on an sgi indigo2 plus several other machines (static IP). It ain't magic, people do this for a living. If there are router problems, hosting company should replace the damn router. That's what CCP is paying them for. "Professional" services implies professional grade hosting, not some mom-and-pop operation that uses junk routers. I happen to think that the problem is not so much the routers as the clustering, and code itself, but never mind. No matter what the fault, ccp needs to get its act together and deal with it. Fanboys like yourself do them no service at all by pretending all is wonderful.

And you think people like you do them any good by spamming the forums with stupid messages like this? You think they're going to be able to magically fix the problems becuase you made a post on the forums?
Yeah I think they should fix the servers. Of course it sucks that they're crashing now and then. Will these posts help fix the problem? No. Will they convince CCP to "get their act together" any faster? No.

All kinds of stuff happen... people or viruses can DOS attack routers among other things. There are some things that are beyond their control. Cut them some slack. 0.o It's not you... no wait it is you. |

Maybe when their subscriber base fades away like morning mist they will get a clue, pour themselves out of the bar, and fix things?
No talking to a fanboy, is there? you people are simply not rational.

Yeah, I'm sure they'd rather sit in a bar while everything they've worked for for the past 7 years goes down the toilet because of easily fixable problems.
And I'm the one being irrational here?

Fuse, yes all kinds of stuff do happen, _but_ as far as I am aware, there is no DOS attack on Eve's servers, or they would have let us know as an excuse for the poor performance of their latest offering.
Oh wait, they created a DOS attack all on their own...downloading an enormous "patch" from the same servers that the game is on. Thank God for Bitorrent..... But after a week most of that should be gone, don't you think? And just how much slack should they get? They are offering a commercial product, it is not unreasonable to expect some sort of funtionality, is it? or am I mistaken?

Xelios, they have some options. They can fix things, and make them better. They can roll everything back to pre-patch and implement exodus in stages (this may or may not be possible depending on code and engine changes, agreed).
What I do not like is that there seems to be no admission that there _is_ a problem on the part of ccp. They seem to think that the players can just tough it out while they slowly fix one bug at a time...perhaps for months.
And I am entirely rational. It is your defense of the indefensible that defines you.

You are getting some sort of functionality, 2 1 minute downtimes today is hardly a lack of any functionality.
Fact is CCP is the only company in the world providing an MMOG of this scale that's all in one world, without shards and without private instancing, and it's their first attempt at an MMOG ever. If you can't handle a little instability after a free content patch that other companies would charge $30+ USD for then tough luck.

Oh, I can handle it. But that does not mean I will not express my opinions.
Now as far as the expansion that other companies would charge for, you referring to SWG? Those people sell the steak, the sizzle and charge people to look at the steak. It is a tool for extracting max money from people. I tried it, did not like it, and that was that.
So what if there are so many people using one cluster? A hosting company can throw resources at this, _if_ they are a decent hosting company.... a cluster can be used to handle a huge number of users/requests...see Google for an example, I believe they are running 6000 machines. In fact compare the performance of Eve to Google. When has Google been down? How long does it take to process a search query? While this may be apples and oranges, I would still suggest that there is much that could be done to improve the performance of the cluster that Eve runs on. And using the hosting company as an excuse for poor performnce is.... well.. bogus at least. No, ccp screwed the pooch by not introducing this thing incrementally. Defending that is silly.
