I'll admit, I'm biased against I-anything, I saw the Ipod as an overpriced mp3 player for bored and rich idiots, and the whole marketing approach of Apple makes me want to puke.
Still, I have been shown to youtube vids, on a dog and a cat interacting with this new ting called Ipod, and apart from it making funny noises and some animation, I dont really see any purpose for it. Or is the whole selling point/gimmick the "touch feature"? I dont know about you, dear OOPE readers, but I don't want my screen to be touched by greasy fingers, even if they happen to be mine.

Well since my iPhone 3G broke due to raindrop damage, I'm not the greatest Apple enthusiast anymore. However, to be fair, to my mind, the iPad could have some interesting uses. I think most of all to read books. Like on the airport or so, might be nice to just turn on the iPad and start reading (plus you could change font-size etc). For the rest... iPod touch/iPhone seem to be the better choices for music and stuff. Would you really carry the iPad around to listen to music? Don't think so. I'm not super-impressed by it. But it was inevitable that it would come. Just my opinion. ----

It's the computer use while your iphone is on the side table and your laptop is too far away in your study. I think you use the iPad while walking down hallways or waiting in the foyer... or maybe while on the toilet. |

sure. Because a cell phone.. or.. oh gods. a laptop computer wouldnt do the same thing. And twice as well.

I like the idea of it because it does the same typical use things a tablet can do, at a fraction of the price. I think of it as a portable notebook (the paper kind), with internets. And music. And some games. And it can function at an ebook reader.

Edited by: Florio on 17/04/2010 07:49:25 I think it, or products like it, will be highly successful, especially if a cheap stripped-down version appears (web browser only, for instance).
Your wife is in the kitchen stirring the simmering curry, or sitting up in bed with the baby and bored, or something comes up on the telly she wants to lookup, or you're chilling out in the bedroom but too knackered to read your novel - these are exactly the times when she/you could switch on the *pad and do some casual browsing.

It's pointless, for the cash buy a Win 7 laptop, or if you absolutely have to have an Apple product, pay the extra for an entry level MacBook, the Ipad is a luxury item, a bauble, anyone who says otherwise is an Apple fan boy or worse, a moron.
If it sells well it's a testament to the strength of the Apple brand not the quality of the Ipad.
Before I get some Apple fan boy hate, I own a MacBook Pro and an Ipod touch both of which are superb, I just didn't buy into the whole Apple myth of a rock solid OS of the gods that is virus free and style over substance, I use the mac for general pc gubbins, web, email, etc and my gaming rig is a Win7 based system.
Sometimes I think Steve Jobs could cover his turds in brushed Aluminium and the "more money than sense Notting Hill chinless wonders" would buy it in their thousands.
Apple products in most cases are very good but that comes at a premium, they aren't cheap, the Ipad I'm afraid, just isn't in that category.

My i~epeen engorges itself at the sight of all this ihate.
I have a MBP, an iphone 3G, and I'll be buying the largest wifi ipad in a couple of weeks. Why? it's great for games and reading books, I can lighten the load I carry by replacing books, magazines and other crap with an ipad (weight issues area lot for me, as drag my stuff around with me for work).
I don't care that it doesn't have a camera - my mac has that, so does my iphone. My new iphone will have 2 of them I don't care that it doesn't use flash. HTML5 should solve that. I can watch movies via netflix, or stuff that I rent or buy from the itunes store. I'd like for a non-flash version of hulu to be available, and I suspect with the way ipad sales are doing, such a thing will exist soon if it doesn't already. The star chart app alone is enough to make me want it. I can afford itoys. I like well designed, light weight, sturdy toys. Not plastic crap that breaks and cracks easily, as I must drag my stuff through airports, to hotel rooms and on airplanes. I like my machines to run non-fail OS's. Oh sure, win7 is nice. Meh. I installed a partition of it on my Mac to play around with it (since CCP can't seem to get off their asses and make a native Mac client, I figured I'd try it) but it's not OSX. I used to be a PC, but now ~ I'm a Mac. My **** just works. I like that.
