I'm sure it's been said before, but I couldn't find this on the list of "Frequently suggested" Improvements.
Active Skill training. Similar to active tanking, where you must actually do something to get a result. IE, armor repairing, shield boosting, whatever. The current skill training system is unique and fun, much better than ceaseless grinding.
Every pro has a con, however. Our system is such that a character can sit on the newbie base for a year, logging on every few days to set up some new skill training. This is likely already being practiced by those who pay for two or more accounts.
So what point is there to get out and use the character if he can just sit on that base and train? He can get some rich alt (or main) to send him a couple hundred million and jump straight from, say, a Reaper to a Hurricane or, depending on how long he was incubated, a battleship.
What I think would be a good addition is active skill training as said above. Making it so that using skills makes them train faster. If you're a miner, your mining skills increase when you mine. If you're training ship piloting skills, then flying ships of that faction and class will boost that skill. Likewise, Gunnery would be boosted by shooting things.
This would not make things a grind fest, but rather, a return for your efforts. It never made sense to me how going out and killing hordes of enemies only netted money. You'd think it would benefit you in some other way.

No.
Firstly, *you* despite what you might think will not be the main person to benefit from this. You will not be able to 'win' EVE and get every skill by playing 23/7 as opposed to older players who have a life.
Secondly, I like not being having to grind my way to the top.
Thirdly, since combat skills need combat, you'd boost missions, which no one needs to do.

Edited by: Zannier on 26/04/2010 19:03:02 You wouldn't be farming anything. You could just go about your normal routine of.. Whatever you do normally, and be rewarded for it in way of less waiting.
Edit: I think I didn't stress enough that I wish for the current system to stay in place. You still train while not doing anything. You just get skill points FASTER when you perform actions.

We know what you mean.
However, if you make it so that some people can get skills faster than others, it causes a lot of unintended pressure on the people who can't grind to get there.
Just give up, this topic has been done to death more than enough times.

Yes, this has been asked for in the past. Yes, its in the commonly proposed ideas thread. Yes, it used to be possible back in beta (or so I am told) and it was removed as people figured out hot to get skills gained while away from keyboard.
For the lazy here is the commonly proposed ideas thread: speeding up skills through actions. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

` This. Maybe CCP should show the commonly proposed ideas thread above the "new topic" window, so you have to look through it before posting.

All I can think of is the amusing though of training skills like "jump drive callibration", seriously; it won't work in eve, to much random factors. Plus that I like to have skills I never used cuz I changed training paths !

lol....that's a pita to learn with current system to 5 (got a freighter alt learning it for jf, may be a capital alt if motivated). How you would learn it not being able to even fly a jump capable ship....nfi
OP, eve you grind isk and after some time you even may learn how to not grind that so much. Enjoy the fact while doing one thing you can do another. Also enjoy things like rl vacations let you take a break from the game and you come back to say a nice and sexy bs 5, AWU 5, any monster skill basically pilot. Assuming smart enough to load up the qeue before heading out to the beach for a few weeks ofc lol.
