Would luv to see some in-warp aggression too. Did this once about a year ago to a wartarget. All we could do was flip each other off in local. Granted, we had no trouble shooting the crap out each other after landing at a belt, I would still like this feature. |

I don't want Eve to be any smaller... so if they implement this they should reduce all warp speed by a % to compensate. It should still take you X minutes to get from Dodixe to Jita via gates. Where X is large enough to make Dodixie and Jita different places.

Sure thing, this definitely needs some attention seeing as how many people this affects. Also, the devs could learn a thing or two by examining the old code again.

Aurel Svenson wrote:I think total warp time should be equal to the distance divided by the ship's nominal warp speed. Nominal warp speeds would have to be adjusted, but warp speed mods would become relevant...
I think I measured it over 20 AU at 9 AU/s and 3 AU/s and found the 9 AU/s ship to finish in 38 seconds versus 3 AU/s in 45 or so. It was ridiculously non-proportional, in any case.
Its non proportional specifically because of the issue that the OP brought up. It take 5-7 seconds to accelerate to full warp speed, then another similar amount of time to decelerate. To make the figures proportional that you just stated would mean the ship would need to enter warp and be at full speed instantly (as in Star Trek/Starwars) and then be "dropped" from the warp bubble instantly, placing the ship back in normal space at the same velocity that it was going when it entered warp.
No time factor to ramp up to speed and then to stop. If the story behind the technology in game is meant to treat warp drives as essentially souped up thrusters, then ok. If they are meant to be actual warp drives that take the ship outside of Einsteinian space than they should get up to warp speed almost instantly.
This point of view is obviously open to opinion, I base mine on the many sci-fi books Ive read that deal with this type of transportation. Not saying CCP modeled the warp function after any book, but warp is warp is warp.... |

Yeah I think that should be fixed as well.. Let's talk about science:
I don't know how exactly warp works. I have two methods in mind that requires the process of acceleration. First, going through a higher dimension, probably the fourth dimension. It is like drawing two points on a paper, you put the first point down, then lift the pen, and move to put the second point down. Second way is to "fold the space behind you", it is like when you put a paper boat in a tank half loaded with water and attach the boat with a small piece of soap. The ship will move because the soap changes the surface force (don't know the exact name of that force, that holds water molecules together even when you keep dripping water into a glass filled with water. The surface of water will actually go above the edge of the glass)
But in the first case, you'll see something totally different because you went through a higher dimension (like if you were a 2-d creature lifted above from the paper you lived, you will no longer be able to see the things on the paper the way it was. You'll begin to see the 'whole picture' instead of lines and dots) . In the second case, we should be able to experience the Doppler effect on what we see.
Since it's hard to program the graphic effect, why don't simply make a theory such as 'tunneling'(just a random idea), that you warp through a tunnel generated by your ship, and omit the acceleration and deceleration process? |

Making the time it takes to reach max warp speed smaller than it Is now won't make the universe smaller for you... just jump into a ship with much smaller warp speed and you won't feel a difference... I don't see the problem some people would have with faster warp acceleration, as only really the frigs or intercepter would gain an advantage, yes you could get from system to system faster then... but battlecruisers and battleships would only save a few sec... or so...
At the moment it takes about 10 is sec to reach max speed, what if that was 2-5 sec instead... that would be nice...
But alternative could be... only intercepters would gain this advantage, maybe by a ship bonus that gets 15-20% warp acceleration per level? Either by the intercepter skill or by a new skill, it would make other ships in eve remain the same, but giving that advantage to a ship made for the job... to intercept other ships |

Elzon1 wrote:Looks like I got quite a few likes out of this suggestion in another thread so here goes... The suggestion is simple. Once your ship enters warp do you notice that it takes some time to get to full warp speed? Yeah, I want the time that takes reduced significantly. Also, do you notice that when exiting warp it takes quite a long time to decelerate to a full stop? Yeah, I want the time that takes to be reduced significantly too. I can't see why we currently need this time to accelerate and decelerate while still in warp. I think as soon as you are in warp you should be to full speed in a time that the server can reasonably handle (this is probably the main issue) and when exiting warp you should be to a full stop in a time that the server can reasonably handle (considering this takes so much longer than accelerating I would say this is where the server has the biggest issue). This suggestion is something that helps pretty much everyone throughout EVE. This should help ships with faster warp speeds actually have an advantage against slower ships in smaller solar systems. Ever been in an interceptor in a small solar system and have a cruiser land only 2 or 3 seconds after you when your warp speed would suggest a 20 to 30 second advantage, yeah that's annoying. So, this helps just about everyone and gives faster warping ships a bigger edge on their slower opponents. What say you fellow capsuleers? EDIT: Hey, maybe some +1's or something will get CCP to touch the big bad code. Come on guys, we know just about everyone who understands the concept wants it. Maybe if we give this a good amount of attention CCP will actually consider doing it.

As do I. Come on devs... touch the code... you know you want to... look at it... it wants you to touch... dirty, dirty code... whoops, getting a little sidetracked.
But yeah, most people would like this... so it should be tackled. |

I'd like this as well. Just look at the EVE trailers, when ships enter/leave warp it's like they accelerate/decelerate almost instantly (example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDVEHE10nHc#t=1m58s ), whereas on "real EVE" (TQ) it's way more progressive. Maybe this is just a pet peeve of mine, but I think this is way cooler regardless. |

In that video, is exactly like I want it :) basicly seeing them reach the max warp speed within 2ish sec Christmas wish list https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=134275 Module activation delay! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1180934 |
