I have a bunch of questions about moon mining to see if I want to start investigating into it for our corp.
PLEASE DO NOT SHARE YOUR OPINION ON IF MOON MINING IS WORTH IT!!!!!
First question: Do POS in highsec need defensive turrets or are they defended by concord? (I know moon miners can't go in highsec, this is different)
Second Question: How far away does a moon miner have to be from the moon?
Third Question: Can there be multiple moon miners per single POS?
If you have any input on those three please answer. |

1. You should have a defensive ability no matter what system your POS is in, however, I think that a lot of people anchor their weapons but do not put them online unless they are war dec'd.
2. Just warp to 0 when warping to the moon of your choice, anchor up your gear.
3. I'm not sure about this one as I don't moon mine, but I would assume you can anchor more than one extractor, Remember to include silos!
Hope this helps, you may need, however, to get better clarrification on 3.

Edited by: mxzf on 05/05/2010 05:14:20 3. The only restrictions on items you can anchor are sec (eg, no moon miners or reactors in highsec and so forth) and sov (you need sov upgrades to anchor certain modules). Beyond that, you can anchor and online things to your heart's content 'till you run into grid and CPU limits.
So, yes, you can anchor as many moon miners, reactors, silos, and so forth as you want and online as many as your POS can sustain at a given time.
(And, as for credentials, I have personally run three moon miners and a reactor on a single POS with no issues whatsoever)

1. They're defended by CONCORD, but enemies can always wardec your corp, and then they can shoot at it as much as they like afterwards. 2. They go inside the POS shield, not on the moon itself, like most other POS structures. 3. Yes, but you can only use one extractor per moon mineral type ; it's only useful to have more than one extractor if you want to extract more than one of the moon minerals present on a particular moon (if there's more than one).

So for clarity, you cannot mine moons in 0.4 either, even though there are mineable resources on the moons?

There are resources on moons everywhere. Moons were seeded with goo before security levels of systems were applied.
I personally knew of at least two highsec dysprosium moons back when they were in style. You just couldn't mine them. =) ---

Yup, you need to be in 0.3 displayed or below. A displayed 0.4 system won't do. That goes both for moon-mining and reactions.

One way you can defend your hisec tower from wardecs is to tear it down the moment you get the wardec notice. When it comes to standing your ground and fighting, there is some information over on this thread about POS defence that may or may not be useful. [Aussie players: join channels ANZAC or AUSSIES] |

True, but also be careful that someone isn't watching while you unanchor your POS - they could potentially zoom in at the very second the unanchor timer expires and scoop your tower. 90 mil for a small tower for a couple of minutes work. It pays the war bills and people will do it.
Always check local for people from the war dec corp (have standings set to red to make it easier), but also check for neutrals hanging around as they may use alts.

Another question, do you have to have high standings and a starbase charter for lowsec government owned space?

You don't need charters in 0.3 and below. Supposedly on sisi you don't need them in 0.4 any more either.
Not sure about standings, I have good enough that it's not been an issue so far for me.
