Edited by: Myxx on 05/05/2010 09:54:10 ... do they have anything specific to do with the storyline? or are they just random, useless infodumps such as on the black eagles and caldari funds?
Would it be possible to instead put them in the short stories or scientific articles section and touch all of those up as well?
It just seems like the recent use of the chronicles section doesnt fit, and its kinda annoying.

if its on the wiki... just... leave it on the wiki? it doesn't need to be cross posted... does it?
and the recent chronicle, which appears to be a scientific article perhaps... isn't even announced? http://www.eveonline.com/background/potw/default.asp?cid=04-05-10 and, if it helps any, I got rid of that annyoing line in my sig. |

I think the black eagles and caldari funds unlimited bits are there because they will function as important background for plot developments to come in the near future. Without the background, perhaps we wouldn't understand/enjoy the upcoming twists. Putting them in the chronicles makes them a lot more visable than only putting them in the wiki, where less players would come. (I think) If I was a writer for CCP, that's how I'd do it.

I loved those infodumps...it'll be great to see some on, say, how the non-Federal Gallente governments work \o/

Something we forget is how many of the much, much older chronicles are infodumps. In fact, it would seem the original purpose of the chronicles was to provide an easy, well-known spot for infodumps. Then the chronicles went to small, one-off or two-part stories such as "Winter came while you were away" and "A history of flight", before moving on to large-scale multi-story arcs such as "Black Mountain", "End of the World" and "The Mercenaries". By this point, we've gotten so used to chronicles being stories, or small parts of a larger story, that we've forgotten that this, in fact, is not what chronicles were originally for.
Not saying the "story" or "infodump" format is right or wrong. Just that infodumps are not a new, sudden change. ----------------------------------------------

They used to be called 'peek of the week' rather than chronicles, and they were largely infodumps. A format I personally prefer, particularly when it is information that is explicitly available IC. --------------
