Edited by: Def Antares on 10/12/2004 00:29:00 The whole mining system is completely weird. Why is the cycle of the stripminers 180 seconds? Can't be for lag reasons. If so, let the client do the maths. When you start your lasers, the client gets data on how much ore is left on the Roid, then the client can calculate how long it would take to mine the Roid empty using X lasers. After the time is up, the client asks the server for confirmation, and it can pop the Roid and put the ore into the hold. If someone else activates his lasers on the same roid and the data will be updated. If this gets too complicated why not just make the cycle time 30 seconds? Still would cause less lag than an Apoc.
This shouldn't be too hard to implement, and it should get attention by CCP, since mining is a big part of the game. All player trade is based on it, and it has gotten recent attention with the Barges. I really think the scanner range solution is very cheap.

I agree with you there.. increasing the range on scanners is a cheap fix that just makes mining even more work.
Hence why Im still working on a way to make mining work right.. my previous solution would work well.. would still only take into account one laser but it would be an improvement. |
