It's a MMOG, you must socialize". I've always loved space sims, got hooked back to Privateer and Wing Commander on the old C64. This game reminds me off that. It's spaceships, it's getting better stuff to put on my spaceship. That's what pulls me to this game.
Folks tell me PvE is boring! There's no challenge. Sorry, the current state of PvP is boring to me. Gate camping, blob warfare, running when there's a challenging opponent whom you might not win from, engaging only that what you can beat (yes, I know there's the odd exception). Where is that more exciting than PvE? Most PvP I've come across has just been that: getting a quick gank to post on a killboard... "Oh we're such cool PvP'ers".
I would agree with these two paragraphs. I have played EQ1, EQ2, and Vanguard over the years, so I am burned out on fantasy genre and WoW graphics were always more cartoontish for me to care for. I loved playing City of Heroes/Villians but fun things get boring after awhile. Then Tabula Rasa came out a few years back, first sci-fi MMO I had the chance to try and enjoyed it but sadly it didn't last more then 10 months before it went down the crapper and was canceled . STO and the other sci-fi upcomming MMO don't really interest me that much.
Then I discovered EVE, heard about it before but it never really caught my eye until late 2008. It was fun, but after my first 3 weeks in highsec I ventured into nullsec because it was getting boring fast. Got podded, haven't gone back since and have almost quit EVE 3 times in the past year. The only issue I have with EVE is the boring grind of skill ques and skill loss, it takes months to find something enjoyable to fly and retraining 2 more weeks for BS5 would make me want to collect 5 wolf pelts instead . Another issue is massive buffers with stupidly pointless active tank skills and less then dynamic combat (no going for the guns or warp core) ; more hitpoints means bringing more people, target then brings out logistics, which then docks when the odds are against them, resulting in stupidly boring games of station camping or forum *****ing because combat takes places at gates, stations, POS even with thousands of grid space in every system. I really want to PVP, but the risk of loosing time invested towards finishing skills is not worth the meager amount of "combat experience" I might of learned because some basement jock on the other side of the planet didn't have a great day and we can't speak the same language so he could tell me about it
