PvP is the backbone of this game, everything else is just a side game to get the ISK to PvP with. You should try it sometime, fit out a cheap cruiser thats not going to make a dent in your wallet and grow a pair.
^ This.
If somebody thinks that missions are the backbone of Eve that person probably loves the taste of windows and making loud indisernable wailing noises.
In fact when people start to think that missions are the backbone that's a good sign that they do in fact need a nerf.
Who cares about the people who want to mine to make their isk in game right ?

I told you how I came to this conclusion. I didn't just start thinking that this or that might be the backbone or whatever, I watched the map (average pilots in space) and saw that the vast majority was in highsec and from them a huge part was in level 4 agent hubs. You can speculate as long as you want, express wishful thinking or ignore the facts, yet you can't deny that at any given time there are more people who run missions than people who do pvp. With backbone I meant the activity, that is played most in Eve, not the one that Eve is theoretically about or what people "should" do in your opinion.
In my opinion people can play the game however they wish. I have no problems with people who want to mission run all day, just as I have no problems with people who wish to mine, pirate or fight 0.0 alliance wars.
Like Tippia posted above your definition of "backbone" is wrong.
Now that I got that crap out of the way I will say this. The rewards themselves from missions do not need to be nerfed. But the minerals gathered from recycling the loot from them is far too great and it destroys the miners ability to play the game they want to. And this is why this so called nerf is being done. You are being selfish and have no consideration for the miners of the game, especially the new players to the game that *gasp* actually want to mine.
