That is an irrefutable fact. Moving beyond fact I would be willing to argue that over 75% of the ships lost in eve are lost due to PVP. If this demand was removed the market would collapse in on itself. The demand would crash and supply would shoot up.
And I fail to understand how people who profess to possess an inkling of knowledge about economics fail to see that, without income, you can't buy ANY ship, no matter how much it's in demand, or how good it's being supplied. What is the very first thing people do when the economy goes bad? Exactly: spend less money. Less money -> Less PvP. Without enough disposable income, people simply won't, erm, dispose of it. Why is that so difficult to grasp?
Hence, nerfing Lv 4's is bad. And yes, it's a nerf, because I couldn't give a rat's ass about getting stupid tags in return: I rather keep the reprocessable loot, thank you.
And if CCP were even half-way serious about boosting mining, they should finally do something about those zillion Russian macro-miners (I dunno, ban Russia?). So, they're simply being very hypocritical about the reasons for nerfing Lv 4's.
Now here is a novel idea: instead of painstakingly analyzing server logs, in a once-every-5-years 'Holy Rage' op, make cloaky NPC belt rats that recognize bot patterns, and who come out to shoot the macro-miner with Concord-like deadly firepower. Now, THAT would be a mining boost! Until then, leave missioners alone!
Except nerfing level 4s isn't as drastic as its made out to be. Tech 2 doesn't come from level 4s for example. And if it did were not talking about removing 75% of the supply where removing pvp would take out 75% of the demand. Sure price may go up a little but the market usually inflates across the board and is kept basically on a standard. Thats why a L4 nerf wont hurt as much as you think it will.
