No, I'm not stuck in 2008, I already knew about it.
So because I do like the original trilogy quite a bit (even with the god awful dialogue) I signed up a forum account for SW:TOR in order to hopefully get a beta invite... Because I have a boring as hell job, in addition to trolling the EVE-O forums, I've been trolling the TOR forums as well.
What I have discovered, saddens me. They're carebears. The lot of them. Whiny, stinky carebears, who almost entirely hate the idea of non-consensual PvP.
I've even found a smattering of former EVE players, spreading lies about EVE like "EVE forces you into a faction to PvP." Obviously, these are the carebears that could not succeed in EVE. Plenty of them seem to have run from STO as well.
Why am I blathering on about this? Well, I am first curious, as to whether EVE is really the only game with a large, and open, PvP culture, and also, whether GoonSwarm (or whatever the fuc k they call themselves now) is planning on griefing the hell out of this game.

I would say yes on both counts.
After trolling the STO forums before and after beta I came away knowing that most people who rag on EVE have no idea what they are talking about or just flat out lie. Bitter nubs one and all and yes, like in STO the carebears will destroy the old republic.

Well, hopefully I'll be able to troll the carebear nubs with some lovely EVE players.
Also, a surprisingly large quantity of their community is barely adolescent wannabe macho men, horribly afraid of gay people. Like to the point they'll harass and kill gay characters cuz they're gay. Boo on BioWare if that happens without a perma-ban hammer coming down on them.

UO was EVE before EVE. Nowadays there is nothing like it. SW:TOR will likely not be for you if you're the skip quest dialogue, PvP for the sake of PvP type.

That people with non-heterosexual preferences should just self-censor any references to their sexual orientation because it somehow makes them a legitimate target ?
But that at the same time, if somebody keeps rubbing it in that he's a jew that lives in Israel and how great that all is and why that is, that's all ok and any jew-jokes are instantly ban-worthy or what ?
Just because _offensive_ racist comments ARE ban-worthy in many places doesn't mean a lighthearted jew-joke would be worth the same punishment, and even if it would also be ban-worthy that doesn't excuse the targeted guy from drawing attention to the fact he's a jew, or better said, it's not "more excusable" than drawing attention to one's sexual preferences. P.S. Hate-mongering based solely on physical characteristics or preferences that do not really affect others much (if at all) is utter crap to me. Also, yeah, sure, probably nobody else in the game knows where you live, what your eye color is, what size shoe you wear, if your father is still alive or what wars your grandfather fought in.
Some of those topics are easy to avoid stumbling upon. But what about your marital status, how much of an annoyance or an angel your girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband is, or maybe what music you like ? Those things are far more likely to come up in a conversation.
Since MMOs are essentially social games in nature (kind of goes with the definition), you can't possibly be surprised if some things actually DO come up rather easily, and sexual preference can be at least guessed at easily by just talking about relationships in general (a very common topic).
Something that goes "man, my boyfriend/girlfriend annoyed me like hell today", then "wait, are you a girl/boy?" followed by a "umm... no" is pretty much a dead giveaway.
You shouldn't have to hide who or what you are just so random John Q Idiot doesn't have a good excuse to pick on you.

Four years I've been playing this game. Do you know how many people that know me know exactly where I live? Two. Yet somehow, you managed to alert an entire community, people you have never met, in a game that has barely made it out of beta (hth) to the fact you are Black. Hi, you're an idiot. Don't see where in my post I said "I'm Gay!" maybe you could point it out to me? I merely said there were more gay-bashers there than here. Yeah, I posted in the LGBT thread, but I assumed that pretty much only LGBT players would read that thread, and it still doesn't change the fact that nowhere, ITT, did I mention my preference for giving it up the butt.

You can't really "bash the furries" _just_ for being furries, or any other group of people with weird behaviours, no matter how disgusting what they do might sound to you, me or 99% of the people on Earth, as long as it doesn't hurt you directly. Rule of thumb, if nobody could sue any one of the group for damages for what they're doing (and win the trial), you're most likely not allowed to bash people openly and indiscriminately for just being part of that group.
