RE: on why you couldnt conquer the station
I guess CCP figured they'd have it in the code by the time someone managed to eat through 30 million HP points

Well, that sure shows how hard they are to take down. Imagine the Tower would have had shield Hardeners or sentries in place. 50 Hours of firing at a Control Tower without defenses. Omg.

I'm just surprised that the POS was being setup by only two Haulers. Where were the Defending BS's. There should have been at least 3 defending BS's to hold the Tower until the sentries were setup. That was just pure bad planning.

btw, just a note: i think we went through more hp than stated :/ 35mil shield 8mil armour 10mil structure while slept 7.5mil shield regen'd and shield recharge during the fight (45hours, 45*60=ans*60 = 162000secs, shield regen (35mil/200k=175shield per sec), 162000*175=28.35mil)
so 35mil+7.5ml+28.35mil = total shield needing to b destroyed = 70.85mil + 8mil armour + 10mil structure = 88.85mil total hp :/ cs:source sos-s33k3r diaspora: s33k3r, hexxeh always do right. this will gratify some people, and astonish the rest.
Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again! |

15 ships is not much of a fleet. I'd imagine that in a real siege you could do it quicker than 50 hours. Then again, in a real siege the POS wouldn't be defencless.
But from what I could gather from similar POS attack threads you aren't supposed to attack a POS directly, you starve it of resources by blockading the system it's in. You said that the POS didn't appear to go into reinforced mode - maybe because POS don't go into reinforced mode when attacked anymore (giving the absurd and unlikely amount of time required to do that)? Mebbe the only way to conquer one is to starve it... Or something, I dunno... ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

Thats my fears - I was under the impression that CCP had said that POS was inded for the taking of af stronger force if they wanted to use the time and ISK requried. Im gonna be really upset, if I hear in the future of ppl taking a POS with them home. |

This may seem like a silly question but did you not consider using lasers to cut the cost right down to nothing and perhaps doubling the number of ships attacking to increase the damage/second to compensate? Seems an awful waste of torpedos to take down a station with that many. Or did you not have enough ships to hand that could feasibly fit lasers?

Edited by: Nym Qyamara on 08/12/2004 00:58:32 Well its a combination of ppl being online and ofline - US and EU players. Profit or ISK for that matter was not really something we bothered to care about. But there were mostly a combination of Apocs and Ravens. So there were enough energy weapons.
Secondly - the attack was not really planed, and was a, Hey lets capture this POS. I belive that if the attack had been planed from the very start, there would have been Alot more fire power. |

Please provide us with some kind of explanation if possible - because we are a lot of disappointed players. Were we just ignorant?

PS: We still love EVE Keep up the good work, may I be as bold to say, this is still the most bug free MMORPG ever to hit the web.
Looks like the control tower was anchored but not online. You couldnt have gone 900m from it if it was online.
look at pic more closely, tey are at 926m, not 900m ----------------------------------------------- Linkage |

You post stuff like this and wonder why the carebears are so against going into 0.0 space. The epitome of the mass killer player here.

now tell me whats so fun sitting in space for 50 hours shooting as something that aint shooting back? :)
ok fun for the first 15 minutes i suppose but after that it just gets old. and id like to see u make that statement when u attack a POS thats properly set up and defended :) i bet the defenders will have fun seing the attacking fleet get vaporised... :p
so il just go with the topic starters statement "coz we could" :)

Heh that was ours that got blown up.
One of our members decided to stick up a tower, dunno if this was out of boredom, or curiosity
Kinda expected it to be destroyed after we realised the insane fuel requirements are just a total waste of time for any group of players that dont mine ice 23/7 (pirates)
So its no big deal. But i agree with the original poster. I was pretty freaked out at how long that thing lasted
50 hours to destroy something worth little more than a tier 1 battleship is a little much...
To all the people who said things like "omg where was the turrets?" "how poorly defended" "why wasnt it online?"....
It was never going to be heavily defended. It was intended as a 90mill experiment for fuel requirements. We realised how much fuel the thing needs and abandoned it.
well. as long as u guys had fun. Good to see some of the local "real pirates" helping you also. Showed their true colors
cya in space.
