Only Cubans... normal cigars smell bad, taste bad, and make me want to throw up. Those things should be illegal

No, I don't smoke. I had two grandparents die from lung cancer because they did, and I have to say that its a horrible way to go. I really dont care if people kill themselves with it, but until they produce a means to smoke without it effecting others, it should be made illegal in my opinion.

Pall Mall Lights user reporting in.
P.S. Only really started at around age 21 (~32.5 now, settled on Pall Mall Lights from around 24-ish after trying out just about any other kind of cigarettes available on the market, even self-rolled ones). I did take my first smoke before puberty (that was probably the reason I didn't bother to even touch the stuff until the last year of highschool, and even then, only when drinking more than it was good for me)... but only during a particularly stressful university exam month did I really start smoking (before then, I doubt I had even smoked more than three packs in my entire life combined).

I have smoked for twenty years from 14 to 34. Since last December I have only had about 30 ciggerettes, mostly given up. Smoking is a mental depressant and its expensive. When i am extremely stressed I do smoke a few. But I have done well and not got back into the habit.

My dad is borderline allergic to cigarette smoke, and it's probably due to my grandfather's chain-smoking habit (coupled with alcohoolism, heh). He died at age 74 of ...*drumroll*... heavily metastasized liver cirrhosis. The lungs were one of the least affected organs (yes, he had an autopsy). My other grandfather (mother's side) was also a heavy smoker, and he did it with just a lung and a half (bullet through the chest during WWII). He died at age 72, but yeah, it was due to his lungs. It wasn't smoking-induced cancer though, it was complications from long-term inhalation of fine animal fibers (he was raising pea****s for a living, manufacturing hats like this one, a local/regional "thing"). All of that, in a country where the average male life expectancy at birth is nowadays around 69 for males (76 for females), and it was much lower back in their day. Not one person in my extended family ever had any life-threatening lung problems AFAIK that were _caused_ by smoking-or-secondhandsmoking.
If you're against smoking, be against it for the obvious and real reason : it stinks. Second-hand smoke is not noticeably worse health-wise than simply living in a city with loads of cars. For first-hand smoke, it also stains and corrodes your teeth, it AMPLIFIES lung-related problems and other biological weaknesses, so it raises health-related costs for smokers. A really healthy person will get problems from smoking, but what kills him eventually will most likely NOT be the smoking, but something else. Smoking might help it along, but it's seldom the main, let alone only factor. Yes, smoking does increase the healthcare costs, but then again, considering the current taxes on cigarettes (at least in Europe), those costs are more than offset overall... too bad they don't always end up in the same pocket they have to get out of though.

Started smoking when I was 13 and now 13 years on I am still smoking. I managed to quit recently for about a month but started smoking again after staying at a friends for a few days which sucks. Weird thing was that it's the longest I have given them up and it was quite easy even though I didn't have any quit smoking aids like gum, patches e.t.c, I just stopped because I wanted to. I just want to stop wasting my money, be healthier and stop smelling like an ashtray. My problem is that I seem to get addicted to things and can't remember the last time I didn't have an addiction of some sort.
Like a cigar now and then too.

never smoked except that one time at a party where I got hooked on a spanish cigar
it was disgusting and felt like my lungs were on fire but something about it made me want to keep doing it
my whole family used to smoke heavily though, I hated it as a habit and considering how damn expensive it is I'd never take it up

Smoked far too long, hated it for just a little less. Like the guy above i have a problem with addictions. Can see it now eating into my health... and still fail to stop.
If theres one piece of advice i KNOW is GOOD and SENSIBLE advice... Never even try a cigarette... ever.

Go and volunteer at your local hospitals cancer centre and you will see numerous reasons to stop. This is sometimes a good technique to help give people an incentive to quit
I am pretty sure you have seen one but here is a comparison of a healthy and diseased lung.

Quitting is easy, just takes a little willpower. I quit for months at a time when I need to be smarter with my monies and starting up again is my choice.
I have addictive personality too so anyone who says otherwise is just a weakling that can't hack it

I smoke cigarettes after a good meal or when I need to relax quickly, but I probably smoke only a few cigarettes per day.
My real passion is pipe smoking, however. I recently got into it and it's much more satisfying. It has nearly weaned me off of cigarettes.

Its only quitting when you don't gone back, anything else is a postponement of recidivism.

Currently trying champix to quit. Seems to be working really well compared to patches or cold turkey and I'm feeling, smelling and looking much better for it already
If you're serious about quitting give it a go. You have to go to a smoking clinic (in the UK) once a fortnight, but sessions only last about 5 minutes and give you some good tips for staying quit.

Smoking was a risk factor in a serious illness I had that nearly killed me, I got over the physical addiction to the nicotine but couldn't get over the habit/psychological dependence and managed to quit for about a month before I started again.
Yes I am stupid.

Smoked for hmmm.. 12 years, quit 3 years ago. Pointless addiction really.. admit or not, it IS for the 'coolness' factor (and yes, the chemical dependence in ur dome that says you need it to be calm). If there was a cig that did not cause ANY health issues and tasted alright, I'd smoke'em. The wispy smoke slowly weaving through the air as the cherry burns wit a subtle snap'crackle'pop is alluring.
I don't care if others do. Their choice. And the people that cry a river about how they should be illegal I hope would be willing to say the same about alcohol that causes quite a good number of innocent deaths and mammed people from 'drunks'. Otherwise you'd be a hypocrit. Jus' fine people that smoke next to schools and near childern in public settings. Smokers are already tax'd out the ass as it is.. oh sorry, actually big tobacco is tax'd out the ass (and rightful so), but they jus' flip it.
