After seeing all the complaining on these boards about how CCP runs their business i think theres some people out here that needs to do a reality check.
Ever play other MMOGs like everquest and the like? Then you would know that the kind of support and closeness to the community that CCP shows is near unique in the MMOG world today. Other dev teams have distanced themselves from the communities and their Customers support is dismal, so its refreshing to see that CCP is doing the right thing to keep us in the loop. Downtime happens and theres no way to avoid that. People that acuse them for shoddy coding should firstly try to get an undesrtanding what coding realy is and secondly to realise the sheer size of a project like this. Everquest was over a million lines of code and its aged compared to the complexity of eve. Bugs will happen. And fixing one bug might create another.
So stop acting like spoiled kindergarden kids and be happy that we got CCP as the company that runs EVE. Do you rather want 8 to 12 hour patch downtimes every week like other MMOGs (example everquest)? Do you want to make them build barriers towards the community? Thats what you will get if this continues.
Grow up people.
/end rant.

Yeah, look at Sony and SWG. They punished hundreds of players after they protested the banning of innocents who unwittingly accepted duped credits. Good thing CCP isn't like that. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

True. The community that we have now isnt the same we had back in BETA, nor the attitude in the game.

How does this closeness to te community show up? I havenŠt seen any dev teamer commenting these threads or such. Except in few cases saying stfu.

I admire CCP for their achivement on EVE. Alone the possibility that 12000 people are on at the same time with very little lag, is one for the books. Personally, i have only tried 1 other MMOG, and its a grim shadow in comparison (But then again, i didn't spend all that much time on it). In regurads to McRoot, you can meet devs more often on the test server. I've heard a rumor, that they operate in Fountain on TQ tho, but its only a rumor . They also frequent the Help channels from time to time, or atleast GM's does.
Salutes CCP on their excelent work

I would say because they are busy fixing the problems. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I cant say I've felt an overwhelming closeness, but I certainly understand how much of a complex nightmare the coding they have to do must be. It's not daily downtime, or extended downtime that is my complaint, and i'm not going to go into them here, i've stated them in other threads. What I will say is I would rather have some 8-12 hours sceduled DT for these guys to get the problems sorted out and people might not moan so much once things are fixed.
Ok the DB failure is a pain but to be fair these guys dont have a crystal ball, someone doesn't jump up at 16:33 and shout 'Oh NO!! 25 mins in the future our database is going to die!! lets stop it super dev team!' but it is still annoying none the less and when in happens people are bound to come on here and rant about it.. it's human nature.
As for this close nit comunity well most of the time when I read these forums all I see is someone trying to make a point and 15 other people instantly slagging them off with pathetic sayings like 'stfu' or 'stop crying noob'...
Never much word from the devs on here...
side tracked slightly there, sorry.

They have given us a time for when server is up. What else do you want them to say? :)
I dont know about you but i rather see them spending their time fixing the servers to get them up as soon as possible than spending that time at the forums repeating something that everyone can see written at the lower right of their eve client anyway.

If you feel people are using the STFU mentality then pls show us examples.
The closeness, Of course the Devs are close to us they use us to keep warm in winter On a more serious note the Devs are close because they look at everyones feedback. They try to provide regular feedback to the community. Now I work for one of the biggest comp companies in the world and we get data base problems/ Technical Issues in our own operations, This is a fact of life so people need to relax. Play Half Life 2 and wait for eve to come back up You never knoe they might give us a free day which would be nice

What I did forget to mention here is that EVE IS one of the best games I have ever played and I do totaly admire the Dev team for what they have achieved. I do moan sometimes and rant a bit but isn't that one of the things forums are for? letting off a little steam?

Edited by: Xelios on 07/12/2004 18:42:46 Amen. Many of the whiny ****s on this board have probably never even heard of another MMOG company, let alone had experience with one. Overall stumbling on CCP in the MMOG world is like stumbling on gold.
In short, criticism is fine, opinions are fine, but stop with the whiny "CCP didn't warn us that DT was going to be 5 minutes longer" bullcrud please. Nobody wants to hear it, especially not CCP.

Well maybe they'd be more inclined to if they didn't get half a dozen whiny smacktards on alts flaming them for all manner of things when they do. I'd rather they did their jobs and worked on the game than spend hours a day on the forums anyway.
