This is probably common knowledge to many, but not to me...so here is my story:
I was tinkering with using probes and discovering secret mining sites or a NPC spawn when I tracked down a worm hole. I had never found one before and was curious. I bookmarked the opening and decided to take a peek in my Buzzard.
With excitement I flew to the opening and hit enter. What would I find? I thought perhaps an NPC spawn or an exotic belt of rare minerals in deep 0.0 space. Perhaps an empty system willed with hidden treasures.
I discovered fog. I then discovered that local was not showing anyone in system (I missed the message telling me it was interference) so I opened my map to see where I was, and I thought I saw a Rifter. No I was mistaken. I then saw another person, and I was excited, perhaps others were joining me in exploring this part of the game.
The other ship locked on and warp scrambled me, and started to pew pew. What? How was this happening? Where was I, and why didn't anyone show in local? Well I soon popped and was podded and back in my home station.
After sending an email to the evil evil killer of my ship, she explained that there were towers and they regularly camp the exit. Apparently the entrances change but all lead to the same place, giving them the time to set up camps and towers and such.
So that was my introduction to worm holes. My advice to others like me, is fly with a buddy, use a spare ship and be ready to die pretty fast if you aren't aware of what happens out there. From now on I'll stick to finding belts.
Happy trails! Jen |

Whenever I scan down a wormhole, I always pop in and scream "I KNOW YOU'RE THERE!!!" into local. I wonder if they spend anytime looking for me...? The Sandbox, you're playing it wrong! |

So what you're telling me is that I shouldn't randomly fly into types of space that I have no idea how they work by myself with no clear goal and without doing any kind of research about them beforehand?

This sort of activity happens on a regular basis in W-space. Most people call it the frontier of eve due to a number of factors, which include but are not limited to: - Delayed Local Channel - Entrances and Exits that have to be scanned down to move from J-sig to J-sig - A flat -1.0 security status in all J-sigs - A bunch of trigger happy pilots that would love to shoot you first and not ask questions later.
If there's one piece of advice I can really impart, it's that if the hole you find in High Sec space is a k162 (the type of hole as it shows on your overview and information window), it means that hole was opened from the system you're considering jumping into. Caution is advised.
If you want to know more, there are plenty of helpful wormhole dwellers and guides in the Wormhole Forum. Hope that helps. ISD Dorrim Barstorlode Ensign Community Communication Liasions (CCLs) Interstellar Services Department |

I remember my first time going into a WH. Popped in to see three Thrashers about 15km out. Needless to say, I promptly left. They didn't even target me, so I guess they were just being nice to the poor scrub in a Heron, or they were all bio-ing.
I consider myself lucky. |

More likely she played 2004-2005 and now came back after several year pause to discover wormholes, which were not around 2005.

If you come from hisec, you can always leave the wh even when scrambled just be in range: 5km. W-Space is a harsh place but can be fun. Delayed local is something many people really enjoy since CCP doesn't get it that it's not used a chat channel but free intel in low/null and therefor changes the game completely. I hate local. The only time i found a camped wh entrance (with like 10 ships) the hole closed behind me just as I jumped through. Was an "oh crap" moment. Somehow I managed to cloak and fly directly upwards evading the swarms of drones and moving ships as they desperately looked for me. Took me an hour of moving at 22 m/s before they finally gave up and I felt safe enough to warp to a random celestial and another 3 hours to scan down a fresh exit. All this at 3am. Don't really want to repeat that experience again This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.-á Without me, my signature is useless. Indeed, +1 more curious pilot having the same first adventure with similar result ;)

This too, managed to avoid getting podded, leaving alone in a pod with no exit bm.
So I had to add the experience of podding myself to the list ;)
