Hmm, where do I recognize this from? I seem to recognize that alien hand from somewhere. It used to be a series or something a few years back?

Ah crap, Steven Speilberg is doing it... so I guess Tom Cruise will be patting some small blonde american child on the head at the end of the film whilst they stare into a sunset...

I remember reading about it on SA, actually.
It's basically going to be Independance Day 2, takes place in america and replace the virus that kills off the martians with F-16 and F-22 airplanes.
Yae verily, it will suck.

Quote: The latest WOTW movie is said to have no relation whatsoever (other than the Martians) to the famous classic film of the same name that opened in 1953. While the earlier version took place in London, the modern version will showcase the invasion in a "working-class environment" according to WOTW screenwriter David Koepp. It was Koepp who felt that it "would be very interesting" to put the film in a "rusting, industrial America-look".
I'm sorry to say it, but alarm bells are already ringing...

They probably should put a disclaimer in the beginning to keep it from causing widespread unrest, as the radio airing once did.

Given it's Spielberg and him having lost his creative touch, just doing run of the mill things lately did you really expect him to take a chance with a lesser posterboy?
Spielberg is as stale as Lucas, Burton & Stone but to his credit Cruises work has improved over the years. Although him being in everything lately makes him prone to the Samuel L Jackson syndrome, massive overexposure in just about any crap that's on a screen.

I'm pretty sure that the 1953 film was set in California...

Please no... Sixth Sense was the only one I thought was any good. Unbreakable, Signs and The Village were all utter rubbish.
Maybe Spielberg will do it justice, but I doubt it. Give it to Peter Jackson with a decent budget and maybe he could turn it into something worth seeing, he seems to have a certain vision lately
