Alittle longer isnt usually too bad a thing except now that there is system degradation... Hopefully there is something in place that allows the server to maintain the system lvls during long periods such as this. |

Okay, greenhorn here so hear me out.
When I click the download update from within the eve launcher it doesnt so I go to the websites download patch area to get the latest, after which it is telling me that the old patch is the one im using and IS up to date.

installing the patch in the first of my 4 backup copies of eve will see if it runs if ccp do another patch i have 3 more to run it on once its all cohser that becomes my eve folder and we good to go |

Those of you not in the know... multi clienting should be done as outlined here -
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients
This means that you update once and once only and all your clients are updated. If it fails you just have to do what you would do anyway and reinstall but only the one client and then make the links again. Personally I have never had a client patch fail on me. |

Us Sisi-watchers had to download that update yesterday and all.
A patch this size is either a very good, or very bad sign. And given Singularity didn't snap in two when it was applied, I'm betting the former. |

Agreed. I'd rather have more people working on the problems and fewer people wasting time spamming the forums with a lot of techno-babble that like five of us (myself included) will understand. Personally, I don't care why the server isn't up yet, I just want it fixed -- and fixed right, so I don't have to deal with bugs and back-end lag and whatnot for a few hours just to have the server go down twelve more times in the 72 hours my work schedule allots me to play. Sooooo, if that takes a few more hours, I'm fine with that. Thanks, CCP, for being thorough. |

Truth. The updates, while they exist and can therefore tick off some checkbox, totally lack any informational content.
We know CCP is deploying Tyrannis. We want to know when CCP thinks it will be ready, or why CCP can't seem to patch a server in 18 hours. |

We know CCP is deploying Tyrannis. We want to know when CCP thinks it will be ready, or why CCP can't seem to patch a server in 18 hours.
Because they work with MS Systems and there you never can say what happens and how long it needs to be fixed if it dont like to run well.... |

Ultimately this is a massive patch.
Kudos to CCP for posting updates on whats happening. Given the next is at 8pm I think we can safely assume it'll be 8pm before anything new happens.
As stated in previous posts. the web forum and the tranquility database is part of the same cluster, perhaps its the excessive load on the forums that is causing the slowdown in database queries thus we are responsible for extending our own downtime?
Just a suuggestion.

Jesus, I've heard some tight b*stards before, but this? This update is for you - they are deploying this for our enjoyment. They've been working flat out all of today. If there's a delay, so what? I'd rather it was as good as it could be before it comes out, and I'm certainly not going to cry about missing some 3 hours of game time. |

What's a boot.ini file?
Since I'm going to be unable to test my own deployment system tonight, I
thought I'd describe it instead. Kind of like a walk-through.
I play with the windows client, deployed to unix on a network share. I run
numerous identities but I only want a single deployment, shared by all
characters. This makes patching far easier than multi-client installs,
and by installing to a raid5 disk on the server it has a performance boost
as well.
The base client was installed from windows to the server's samba share. I
then tested and set this to read-only when satisfied. My deployment script
then simply takes the character name as input and creates a simulated EVE
environment with soft-links to the static files. The necessary directories
for local caching and per-character settings are physically created for
each character. The deployment script will be changed soon to read in a pre-
set list of characters to deploy. This will allow for multiple deployments
for any particular character so that one could effectively "save" different
screen layouts; scanning, trading, or blowing stuff up screens could be
"saved" as different deployments at a disk-space cost of only the space
required for the caches. The EVE executable is a shortcut in windows pointing
to a particular deployment on the server, and named accordingly (e.g. "Lunatic
Shakhid - Trading Layout").
I do maintain, as failover, another completely independent EVE installation
directly on the games PC. This is for use if my file-server should be
unavailable. It's also installed on an SSD I recently added in order to
assess the performance of such devices for disk-intensive applications
such as EVE. Verdict: Awesome! Get one. Even better, get two and configure
them as raid0 (and watch your cores try to keep up!).
Next project is to mount the SSD on the server and redeploy for all clients.

Hello,
I am a windows server guru, and in some cases i play with server config in a separate server and test deployment and all those stuff before i actually take the production server down and affecting daily operations. It seems CCP has an idea of this concept with test server, but it seems they dont have it, imo the best practice here would be having 2 identically live servers and use 1 of them for this testing purpose. Well sorry for the flame but i speak what i see. |

i would think that getting a good night's sleep and waking up a bit early to play would be a far less frustrating experience that HOPING that the server comes up in the next hour or two.
FYI, as previously mentioned by many people smarter than I am-there is a HUGE (and unpredictable)difference in getting software to work on a test server with 200-500 people than a server with 50k plus. |

Ah, time is not such an easy thing in my line of work. Those 15 seconds between UTC and GPS times means everything. So, if you are flying eastward out of Boston Logan on Feb 2, 2018, at mach 0.75 and 18:07 GPS time and your jump clone is on a barge heading west out of Iceland at 17 knots and has his watch synchronized to Loran-C time, what time would would the world end on a clock in Chicago when your two clones cross path thereby causing a rift in space and time?
More importantly, how many times is a single person going to have their patch download interrupted as CCP identifies and corrects another issue... After they say "go", I'll wait until CCP + 4, give or take 15 seconds. |

I thank CCP Navigator for the updates, But it would be nice if when they said they will inform us at XX:XX Time it would show us rather then having to refresh all the time as it does not happen till about 10 min late. If it got posted when they say it would, it prolly would be less taxing on there system(from ppl refreshing). I could go do something else as i know when they will be posting new info. They should have some PR guy worken on just that, makes it seem like they are disorganised.
At least someone is sayen something this time. Last time we got no news what so ever so thanks Navagator. |

Well "Mr Windows Guru", You clearly have no idea how large and complex systems work with reliability, load balancing and database symmetry, the Eve server is nothing like a server its more like a very complex HPC cluster its not like they are updating it with Windows update all the code is totally built in house. |

Ok, so i have seen pages and pages of people complaining about delayed downtime... Honestly.. are you all that impatient you can't wait a few more hours?. You should all be so thankfull you are getting free expansion packs and only paying a small monthy fee, The world isn't going to end if you can't play right away,, chill out so have a beer and a smoke.. it'll be worth it when they are finished. the more you rush the more they could miss there for causing more bugs and giving you more reasons to act like children.. |

One of the most defining perks of EVE comes from having one universe for all to play, so no thanks. And anyways half the players would suffer with the patching while the other half don't. If you meant having two servers but using only one of them until patch day comes, I'd rather see that technology being used the other 363 not patch days, thanks. |

Get the message (not enough diskspace% after the installer extracts the files. I have 2.54TB free (4x1TB disks in raid-5)
Uninstalled and started downloading the full client, hope that will do it.

I for some reason got only 80-90 kb/ps when downloading with autopatcher, tried torrent and got 600kb/ps (my max internet speed)

Whilst, like many, I have been waiting for this patch to proceed so that I can log in and see the update in all it's glory, I am also aware that updates of this nature can be unpredictable at best. Even with all the best planning in the world, updates of this nature are complex and the unexpected quite often becomes the reality, with the planners looking at the implementers and saying "Who knew??".
I work in IT as a system admin, on a network that has to go through yearly changes, if nothing else than to keep up with government legislation, on a system that uses a database as large and as complex as CCP does with EVE. If that transformation of new database architecture couples with the retention of data that does not require a transform goes without a hitch, then all is well and good, but that is not connected with the real world. Usually Murphy's and Sod's Laws seem to kick in, and we are left dealing with a customer handling issue, wherein we have to provide the customer with an update, which at the very least is "There is currently no further information, however as soon as there is, we will update you." Much like CCP is doing in this thread...
Where this appears to have fallen over, and has resulted in a moan-fest of great proportion, is with the link given by the information portal on the Log In page - I've been watching that thread for information, and only recently have become aware of this thread. Certainly on the other thread, there has been no official update, as the initial post in this thread has been doing. Which has left an awful lot of people without information by which to make a balanced judgement about when the game will be due for access.
IF a lesson could be learned from this, then it's that if CCP give a URL to a thread for information, at least periodically update that thread with an official post, not leave it for over 3 hours with nothing put there, OR change the link to the thread that IS actually being updated, so that the customer base has an idea of what is or is not going on.
Many thanks to CCP for keeping their heads during this update, and succeeding where the database team on my network seem to fail - in the timely delivery of an update, which, btw, for those interested, normally takes place over a weekend, when our customer base accessing the systems drops off to a minimum. I wonder how the moaners and flamers would like to have their access cut off for over 48 hours, let alone the 18 this update seems to have taken? ;o)

Here Here, lets appreciate instead of flaming. Updating a game server is not as simple as us here patching a client.
