The Iphone is a system, That system is our enemy. look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

Well there are still so many units in the market and further more other online games are picking up the project too, as a player and a marketer i think it will be profitable for them to make it playable on Ipad...This will not only benefit the current players but also encourage new players to eve since there are alr so many Ipad users out there

Making EVE playable on such an interface would be an achievement in itself.
But, utterly pointless. -

Android: I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

With a ShamPad in your kitchen, you'll be saying WOW! every time!
That's right folks, you too can say "Wow! I can't believe I spent $500 on a device I want to play EVE on without knowing that its specifications couldn't run the game at its lowest settings if it tried!"
(though it probably could, I'd rather not - VNC would work far better and give you better graphics.) ---

Edited by: Michael Kuiper on 27/05/2010 15:52:59 Edited by: Michael Kuiper on 27/05/2010 15:52:19 Everytime someone post this "idea" about making eve run on an apple tablet device, i wonder to myself, "are some people really this computer illiterate?"
Im not going to even go into any amount of depth concerning the lack of specific hardware support that would make the feat of eve running on an ipad possible. But let me just say this, there are cell phones which have a higher screen resolution, faster cpu, and more ram than apples new "toy".
Now maybe real tablet device... that might be another story. But that wouldnt require any new eve client at all.
edit, spelling.

The iPad has a single core 1 ghz processor. It couldn't run EVE even if CCP did port it to the iphone OS.
If you want to run EVE on a very mobile platform, get a good netbook (some of them can actually run it decently). In fact, you pretty much should have just purchased a netbook in the first place.

ipad is fail due to several factors, but is selling well due to apple fanboys.
It is nothing but a larger ipod. it cannot multitask. it is not a computer. it is an ipod with a bigger screen.
people want it, because it is apple, and hard to find. that is all.
that said, i wouldn't mind being able to log to eve via ipad, iphone, droid phones. but its not worth it really in the end i would bet.

The iPad is a massive piece of crap and not everything Apple makes is the Jesus version of whatever product they've slapped in aluminum and released to the sheeple. We have an iPad at my office for showing off touch panels and pictures, it does NOTHING remarkably well and is annoying as crap because I cant do 2 things at once.
The day EVE is available on that massive piece of **** is the day i quit paying for my whole 2 accounts.

How can a device you pay so much for, but can only do one thing at a time, despite all of it's power, be cool? It's crippled and ******ed. But, there're enough idiots out there who will buy it, to continue belonging to the Apple cult.

Edited by: Karlemgne on 03/06/2010 05:51:46 The iPad hate I find to be rather humorous. Seriously, you hate the idea of this device soooo ****ing much there are some of would be prepared to do the ultimate whine--threaten to cancel your accounts if any type of workable client is developed by CCP for the device. Even if its just to change skills and browse the market.
Talk about fanboi behavior, and I am not even sure what type of fanboi you are. Apple hatred fanboizm?
And yes, I own an iPad. It is the first piece of apple hardware I have purchased in 7 years. And yes I build my own PCs (the fact that these have to come in as disclaimers when discussing Apple products in these conversations says it all).
Why did I buy it? I bought it because I am academic and I needed a tablet like device. I don't want a ****ing netbook, before you say anything, I want something in this form to deal with what I do professionally and I didn't want to wait for the Microsoft Courier (nor get an actual tablet PC).
The device does its job for me, is heavily supported, and looks like it will remain so. That the device has sold 2 million units cannot be chalked up to pure fanboi Apple fans and testifies to the fact that it will continue to be supported despite your collective whiny iPad ****fests and protestations. My sig don't fracking work. |

I except for using the market and setting up skills etc, i really can't see why anyone would want to run eve on the ipad, and i don't think anyone would port the game to a mobile device just for doing character administration.
Still the iDroid and linux for iphone is showing some really fast progress, and eve does have an linux client. It will properly need alot of work to get the eve linux client to run on idevices, and i'm not even sure if the idevice platforms have the hardware resources to support the game.
There may also be some legal issues in porting the linux client to idevices, you would need a jailbroken device to be able to install and run linux on the device, and i think apple properly would take legal steps to prevent other companies from using jailbroken idevices to run proprietary software.

It wasn't supposed to be a computer. It's exactly an iPod with a bigger screen. That was the point.
Purpose by design is not a flaw. If people don't like the design, they won't buy it. But the numbers are in favor.
Good design is good. That's all it really comes down to. Bad products fail: Zune. Or they are put on life support: MSIE. Or they never come to exist at all: Microsoft's tablet (never saw the light of day).
A company's philosophy at the top ultimately gets reflected in its products at the bottom, for better or for worse. You be the judge. But I have no interest in building my own computer.
(For the record, I wait for the day that MS finally pulls the plug on MSIE. It gains them no profit anywayà it feels like they try to keep up with things like HTML5 only to honor their history as the winners of the browser wars. Oh Firefoxùthe irony!)

There's no Linux EVE client. You can run the Windows client through Wine, but Wine only runs on x86 architectures. The iPad is based on ARM, so although you could get Linux running on it you wouldn't be able to compile Wine.
But there's a deeper issue here, surely: the Jobsian campaign against Adobe means that the only language you're allowed to write iP{ad|hone} programs in is Objective-C. Interpreters and virtual machines are strictly forbidden. Since most of EVE is written in Python, it would require a Python interpreter which means Apple would never let it get on the App Store... ---------- EVE Markets - global price trends at your fingertips |

Python has been ported to iDevices and is part of the standard cydia package repository, but i think you are right when it comes to never seeing it as part of the app store software collection.

Yes, they will make a client for the iPad... the iPad which uses a completely different architecture than EVE was developed for... They won't make a native Mac client, but sure, they'll make a client for your 'I'm a huge cell phone that cannot make calls' iPod...sorry, iPad.
I'm a huge Mac fan, but anything that has something to do with iPod, iPhone and iPad is just fail... Overpriced, underspecced, overhyped and under-performing gadgets that have no real use but 'whoa look at my bling'.

Seriously..
It could never run on the iPad because then EVE would have to use a different Font, and god knows that would violate the laws of spacetime.

What a thread derail.
Anyway, haters gonna hate. I thought the iPad was a ridiculous concept until I got to play with one. Now I rather like it- it's slick, it's great for media consumption (video, browsing, ebooks), and I can use it at work by using an RDP app.
It's not MEANT to be a desktop replacement. If you can't think of a use for it, don't buy the darn thing; but I can.
Is there anything more rabid than an anti-Apple fanboy?

The ipad is a pretty handy thing to have around.
The younger crowd tends to get caught up in nvidia vs ati, intel vs amd, windows vs mac, etc
After you've been around a bit and tried about everything you learn to judge each product on its own merits.
Yes, the ipad is a larger and much faster touch, but thats not a bad thing.
I can surf the web about as fast as I could from my computer, and it turns on and is ready pretty much instantly.

This is EvE running on my phone, Motorola DROID, overclocked to 1.3 GHz and running a custom ROM (Bugless Beast 1.1) as well as a host of other improvements.
EvE on an ANDROID Phone
I just filmed that last night actually, camera sucks yea yea its done using my wife's ERIS, one handed. Ill post space flight videos and whatnot people want IF theirs actually interest.
Now, this is virtualization mirrored off a PC. People can cry all they want, but 1. Im not rewriting either WINE for non x86 mobile processors and im also not going to rewrite the eve engine for a mototola chip and all that fun stuff and 2. alot of us do leave our clients running all day (AFK cloaker, traders, CEO's, etc).
Average FPS is 20ish give or take in station or orbiting outside it. Color depth is still set to 32b with alpha on, PC side 1680x1050. Toss that down to 1/2 the resolution and youll be sitting in the high 30's easily. Physical keyboard i believe is a must for this, to many actions and while touch screen ONLY does work its pretty bad.
This is also filmed off wireless, it ALSO work in 3g only mode however I have wireless available most plaves I go but ill tell you now under 3g your best off doing little more than market PvP and chat (which is what I imagine ALOT of people do want this for!). Ive been playing around with this also in classic Everquest emulated servers and oddly, EvE runs BETTER like this than a 10+ year old low resolution MMO. Id even wager eve is twice as playable as EQ! Personally I despise apple and the ipad (im waiting for a proper android pad, comming soon!) but this same technique will get ipoop people up and running eve but probably with, if anything, a lower frame rate due to various factors until someone figures out how to better streamline the OS and overclock the damn thing.

I use remote desktop alot on my iphone, but not for games. First thing i tryed when i read this thread was to see if i could execute eve using remote desktop. It does not work, which properly have to do with the underlying technology used for multipoint application sharing.
Still i would think vnc would work, yes?

A true VNC client? Ohhhh hell no. Ive already tried that route, every which way, and it just WILL NOT do anything more than 8 bit color at 5fps or less. Its a bandwidth thing. A virtualization/Remote Desktop setup like PhoneMYPC is funny, in that it it basic (and over simplified but it works) records your screen, converts it to the equivalent of a mpg movie, and then streams THAT. It then gimmicks in mouse and process, and window controls.
Its far more efficient a method but it DEFINITELY benefits from 1. A powerful phone 2. A custom optimized ROM and 3. Overclocking.
Im sure other people have it working as well also, but has nobody else posted a thread on a how-to or a simplified explanation? If not ill write up a post tomorrow after work.

Unless every average Joe and his dog comes to iPad and makes killing off of it, CCP won't come. So don't even bother.
If you look CCP's product profile, you'll notice they are not in hurry to hop in some uncharted territory in a matter of, say, a couple of years. Rather, what CCP excels is to find a niche and brings to appeal to broader audience base, and they keep focusing on strengthening their ability to do exactly so.
Not a bad idea at all in fact. |

Is there a basic guide to setting that up? I am googling vnc as I write this, but as of now, I dont even know what that is. . . . Okay, now I know that much....

...It cannot. Cannot. Be that simple. Because if it were, I would facepalm. I really, genuinely would. My guess would be, however, that this would not work at school computers that are more or less on lockdown, with 0 privileges given to the user? Or on networks with high levels of control on them?

Originally by: Karlemgne Edited by: Karlemgne on 03/06/2010 05:51:46 The iPad hate I find to be rather humorous.
I called Foanboyism from the start.
Let me rephrase their replies "But I love my Eve the way it is, obscure and hard to get working right even on a good PC (I'll forgo acknowledging that MACs are PCs too in reality), Im so in ove with CCP and bill gates that I can't imagine not paying for something that was coded in 2000 and still works like a wonky pile of garbage. IF you even think about asking for support for other systms, or god forbid, asking for bugs to be worked out so that eve at least runs smoothly on all the hardware it claims to support, Ill QQ so hard my accounts will explode".

Works fine on my MacPro, which is from 2006, though it had a new vid card today because the old one burned out, and I've been steadily playing EVE on 2 accounts since Nov 2007.
There were bad times, badder times and plain awful times but today I'm pretty happy with the current client.
Since you run it on minimal required specced hardware, do you have every setting set to lowest, with interval at 1?

So many haters. iPad is a fantastic device and neither it nor Apple is going anywhere fast. While Apple gobbles up market share, market cap and puts Apple devices everywhere do feel free to spread FUD about how "crappy" they are because surely Apple's continually increasing stock price means they are simply doing poorly.
I love my iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini Server, Airport Extreme, 2 Airport Express. But, I might be an ignorant fangirl that buys anything Steve Jobs tells her to. Or, I might be an intelligent consumer that does research before making a purchase.

However, on to the subject, I don't think EVE should be ported to iPad as a) an extremely limited market b) limited hardware c) very time consuming.
To all iPad owners, do enjoy your expensive digital photo frame. In time you'll get bored and wish you had spent the money on something more intelligent. |

Meh. Five hundred plus dollars for a portable email reader (use a crackberry instead) and web browser (with a small screen and touch keyboard) seems to be a waste.
Instead of shelling out $$ for an iPad, I'd buy an SSD for my laptop computer or my wife's MacBook. Having a really fast boot time, a decent sized keyboard, and much larger screen would be more convenient than an iPad, IMO.
Personally, I'm expecting (and waiting) for electronic paper to do what the iPad does.

Not really, even on jail broken devices you would still need to connect to a windows hodt running the eve client. The options for accessing an directx application running on a windows host, seems at the moment to be the same for jail broken and non jail borken devices.
This may change in the future, but as it stand now the possibilities are the same.

You are perfectly right. The quad core CPU and high end video card in my PC aren't relevant, it's Windows 7 that's the important thing. Very much like the iPad, that runs the iPhone OS... So, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to throw away this piece of rubbish, buy myself a 386, install Win 7 and enjoy the pleasures this great OS has brought me. And that's exactly what Apple should do. They should stick to 14 year old systems and just install their latest, greatest, unsafe OS on it. It'll save them money and allow them to milk people like you even more. Win for everyone, especially you, because you don't know how hard- and software work anyway.
What you should do is go and live in a cave with your Messiah, Steve Jobs, so the rest of us are spared the **** he comes out with. By the way, has your iIdea application told you what to think today? Because without it you know you wouldn't know what to talk about.

Eve on the iPad could totally be done, but it wouldn't look as pretty. I think it would be great to put my freighter on autopilot (yes at my own risk) on my iPhone and toss my iPhone in my pocket or on my desk. I really don't need to pump power into a 295GTX to do a transport run.
Also would be nice to lighten the load on my computer when I just want to do simple things. It would be great to fight someone using an iPad for combat though. :)

Quote: ...It cannot. Cannot. Be that simple. Because if it were, I would facepalm. I really, genuinely would. My guess would be, however, that this would not work at school computers that are more or less on lockdown, with 0 privileges given to the user? Or on networks with high levels of control on them?
Confirming that not only is it that simple, but compatible with linux and windows off the same USB stick.
Requesting a pic of you facepalming and requesting permission to use it as a sig. This is clearly a signature. |

Originally by: Super Whopper You are perfectly right.
Trying to compare workstation pc's and tablet computers is just stupid, just as stupid as trying to compare iOS and windows 7.

Edited by: Lantano Garuwashi on 23/06/2010 08:58:12 I think the Ipad is the wave of the future. It would be great to have a home pc the size of the ipad that can run any game out there and one day it will happen. I dont have an Ipad, I was going to buy one but found out it didnt play flash videos or dvd games.
Edit... I had high hopes for the I pad

Im against the idea, mainly because Eve-pad sounds like something the wife would use on blob week.
And that isn't a week about celebrating Goon tactics.

I would pay whatever Blizzard is charging to CCP for a smartphone/iPad/iTouch app that allows for market management, contract creation/browsing and skill training changes (and anything else that isn't graphically demanding).
Web portals are okay, but they don't come close to the speed and overall looks when compared to apps built from the ground up. Portability isn't the future, it's the present... and CCP should embrace it ASAP.

Edited by: Ressiv on 19/07/2010 08:27:43 For all people that have a hard time grasping why some people hate iEverything, it's called freedom, or the lack thereof on iSystems.
There is a group of people that do not agree with the stance of iProducer that they know better what I should or should not want to do on a piece of iHardware.
I couldnt care less if CCP would develop something usefull on for iCrap, but I have hard time understanding why people would want to invest in something that is limited severely in the name of 'we know better what's good for you then you', costs a ton of money, and doesnt compare all too well to similar products out there.
That's one of the main reasons that people go on the fences about it.
And ... this:

They've sold like half a billion dollars worth in less than a month. If ipad is fail i want to fail hard at life.

I think the idea of playing eve on an Ipad is a valid one just not the existing one.
Next year the Ipad2 comes out and according to sources it will have more rendering power than xbox 360.
If they add a usb port for a mouse or a wireless one eve or dust could be played. Not saying it would be any good though.
However what is said is coming and what comes out are two different kettle of fish.
Linkage about IPad2
