Last night, while starting the first song of thier set, the metal band Damageplan was attacked by a gunman onstage. Former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot 5 times and pronounced dead on scene. Two others confirmed dead, including the shooter (cop got him). Eyewitness reports say he began shooting into the crowd......
Damn.....

Guns dont kill people , people kill people Really sad when this sort of thing happens, more sad is that the shooter managed to get in there with a gun in the first place, just goes to show how good the policeforce is as protection. -------------------------------------------------------- Eternal darkness begins where your nightmare ends...... |

"The cops showed up and then people started sayin' that DBD was killed...
"I was up close to the stage on the side where Dimebag was playing," wrote one fan on the band's website. "Then I saw the guy jump out of the crowd onto the stage. He was yelling something about how 'You broke up Pantera, you ruined my life. What about Phil?' " - referring to Phil Anselmo, the Pantera singer who did not join Damageplan. " 'He needs ****** money.'
"Then I saw the gun and he shot DBD (Dimebag) right in the head. When DBD went down he kept shooting. Then he turned around for (other band members) Bob Zilla, then Vinnie. There's some blood on my ticket stub, so I'm going to sell it on eBay or keep it or something. I know DBD is in heaven (or ripping some mad riffs in hell)."
The other dead have not been named.
Other notices on the website - which noted that objects were already for sale on eBay - were not so heartfelt. "Personally, I want a refund," wrote one. Someone else, under the name h8breedsh8, wrote: "Hate to say it, but when your lyrics and lifestyle glorify hate and death and misery endlessly, as every band that plays this club does, this type of #### is inevitable. Plenty of suicides were blamed on Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult back in the '70s. Only diff is that now the psychos take a bunch of people with them!"
There are some sick puppies out there! Still peeps in EVE were selling bits of Jove guy on ebay so not much diff there! :P

I myself am a fan of Pantera/Damageplan, and I for one, have taken this very seriously
In honor of Dimebag Darrell (my idol), heres a little history lesson for anyone who doesnt know who he is and what his contributions to metal were:
1990: Cowboys from Hell released, single handingly reinventing metal, bringing down the reign of glamour rock, and sending the 90's into a metal era.
1992: Vulgar Display of Power is released.
1993: Pantera performs at the Kings of Metal concert in Moscow in front of thousands of fans, establishing their reign over metal.
1994: Far Beyond Driven is released.
1996: The Great Southern Trendkill is released.
1997: Official Live: 101 Proof is released.
2000: Reinventing the Steel is released.
2000: Pantera performs on the world famous Ozzfest tour, ending their reign of power of almost a decade.
Pantera broke up after this album due to conflicts with their former lead singer Phil Anselmo dedicating his time to other side projects. Dimebag and Vinnie Paul dont take this sitting down, they form Damageplan with former Halford guitarist Pat Lachman taking over lead singer duties and Bobzilla taking over on bass.
Although not as good as Pantera in my eyes, Damageplan was a great band. This death has stopped production of their new album. I for one am torn apart by this sad news. Although Dimebag isnt with us anymore on earth, he is up in heaven, and Im sure he is downing Jack Daniels and shredding on guitar. Im sure Im not alone in saying that we have lost one of metal's greatest members. Dimebag, I salute you!!!

The band was playing at a club, which aren't as well policed as big concert venues.
I've heard now that in addition to Dimebag and the shooter, a bodyguard, a roadie, and another fan were killed, with several more injured. I'm honestly still in shock. _______________________________________________ Eris Discordia: On the scale of funny and constructive it scores low, real low. |

Going by the CBS news write-up, there were no police on duty at the show. A patrolman who was nearby the scene responded, entered the club from the backdoor, approached the suspect who was grappling with someone else, and shot the suspect, fatally injuring him.
From another longtime guitarist and Dimebag fan, RIP Dime.

A very sad day indeed. A shame when someone is gunned down in their prime. If I'm not mistaken this same day many years ago is when John Lennon was assasinated. People need to understand whether you liked their music or not, he was a human being.
RIP Dimebag!
Oh, and a kudos to the cop that downed this POS! I tip my hat off to you and your family. One less crazed lunatic on the streets. To the shooter- Looks like you got pwnd dumb-ss Hope you had your clone updated! *With a gun barrel between your teeth, you speak only in vowels.* |
