I see your Road, and raise you a Stalker
(yes, I like Tarkovskij a lot.)
Also, OP, do yourself a favour, and watch the Seventh Seal

Sorry, but that film is utter tosh.
It was a work of art, my friend. Don't be bitter just because something actually good was popular and widely talked about for once.
It was monotonous and except for a few good moments rather dull. 15 to 20 minutes of good in a 2 hour 33 minute film, does not make it a 'work of art', but rather a ride on the wave of previous great work. I preferred the original and that's saying something.
I'm not sure were bitter comes in, but I'm guessing you think SAW was a masterpiece also, as that was popular and widely talked about at the time.

It was an original script that had nothing to do with "the original".
The original movie's title was inspiration for the new movies title. Nothing else.
Different strokes for different folks I guess, but typically the kinds of things you're talking about make people sound like they're just looking for gun fights and explosions, rather than dynamic, FUNNY and dramatic acting/performance/production peppered with good action sequences.
Oh, and I almost forgot. I just made you read my signature. |

Inglorious Basterds is like all other Tarrintino films in that the film itself isn't that great, but he's got scenes that are absolutely fantastic. Scenes that by themselves are worth watching a whole movie for. He generally has a few of these in a movie. Personally that's why I like watching his movies. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

Pick an actor and choose his or her films instead.
For a lazy Saturday and if sci-fi was my goal, I think Rutger Hauer would be a good choice.

Horrible approach, if you're not in love with said actor. Check out IMBD and pick something off of their top 100 you haven't seen.

I approve of this, some of the films he starred in, were simply marvelous, I still remember a good one, of him being a cyborg in a post apocalyptic world, and how he finds a single lone unspent bullet at the beggining of the movie and it's the whole pivotal plot of it, regarding a "warehouse full of guns and ammo" .
But as usual, these low budget films are an "acquired taste" ---

I must admit to this, his movies are to be digested by pieces, and for me, the classical scene of the Lady being killed in the back by the **** officer was something I had to rewind and see again. Seeing her fall slowly was pure beauty, and a classic death posse.
Also several details, like when the french farmer takes out a pipe and boom, a full blow Meerschaum Pipe comes out from the infamous "man" :P . Such details in character development. To be honest rest was filler except for some scenes, but that's Tarantino for you. People WTFHated Death proof, I loved it. I think that what makes movies great is that there are so many genres, styles and directors you can pick one that satisfies your needs.
People hated Ninja Assassin too, and come on, I don't know what they were expecting when they went into a theater to see a movie called Ninja Assassin? :P

The 'problem' with tarrintino movies is that he packs in a lot of dialog that needs to be followed into his movies which can make it hard to enjoy for people who need constant action to keep them interested. Also death proof is my favorite tarrintino movie by far. By the time you got done hearing the first set of whiney chicks biatch and moan about life, tease their 'boyfriends' and basically do all the things that annoy the **** out of men in general you got a much much better rush when he turned them into hamburger and giblets. Then the next set of girls are like the total opposite in that you would just love to spend an evening in a bar with them drinking beer and talking about cars and sports and such then ****ing the rest of the night away in a hotel room like a drunken horny pair of rabbits. Tables are turned on the killer and we get some of the best retro 70's muscle car chase scenes ever made in a movie.

The leg getting sheared off in the window totally sticks with me... Actually the whole car crash does it's fantastic. Anyways the character development and dialog is why you need to watch the whole movies for scenes which blow you away rather then just chucking the rest and watching only the scenes you like.
Also I loved Ninja Assassin, I thought it was totally worth watching twice. Also when he does that handstand push up, holy horse**** that was cool! I don't really understand how its possible not to like it really. People shouldn't expect Shakespeare from a movie with a title like that. |

A couple I haven't seen mentioned for your next lazy film day are:
1. Cashback - not Sci-Fi but it's a small budget British film about a Uinversity student who becomes really hung up on a girl after their break-up so he can't sleep. The film is really about what he fills his time with and dealing with the break-up in the weeks that follow (without sleep). Well worth a watch and is quite possibly one of my favourite films.
2. Let the right one in - I haven't watched it yet but I've been told by numerous people that it is fantastic. It's a Swedish film with subtitles but don't let that put you off. It's about a boy who is getting bullied at school and finds help in a little girl about his age...who doesn't feel the cold, can't go out in sunlight and has strange teeth.
3. The Robert Downy Jr. Sherlock Holmes - watched this one the other day, it's really good! For those who have seen it...DISCOMBOBULATION!!
Enjoy!
