Quote: In my village, there are many tales that are often told by the elders to the little children. Tales of past deeds that occured long before our days. This is tradition in my village. Yet amusement is not the sole purpose. We must entrust our sons with the lessons of yesterday lest they forget who they are. For to forget, to be made blind, shall only lead to an abyss where there is no hope of return. Isundu Nyoka, 1184
February 9th appears to be an ordinary day. There are no festivals held on this day, no celebrations, no memorials. Each year this day would come and go, nondescript as a droplet falling in the rain. There are a few people, however, that ought to observe this day with more regard. This is because for many, this day marked the beginning of the end.
Things were different prior to February 9th.
PA, the Phoenix that rose from the ashes. Ashes that remained from the conflagration that marked the end of old Venal. However, this fire was our own, we lit it, we extinguished it. We burned Venal down in righteous anger so that the people may inherit it from the gluttonous overlords that held many in thrall. We exacted nothing but the satisfaction of seeing the old order replaced with a new one: change, growth, evolution. In leaving, we left the stars that were ours by conquest to those that we liberated. Nothing demanded in return.
Months later as we went on with our simple nomadic ways, we sought permission from the new stewards of Venal to explore the stars that they presided over. Permission was granted and we were guaranteed safe passage. However, things did not turn out as expected. In spite of the permission we sought and received from PA, when our two brothers went there they were stopped, accosted, and threatened at gunpoint to leave or face the consequences. It was then when we regretted giving them the gift of Venal.
On February 9th Evolution informed PA of the beginning of hostilities.
We sought for the honor that we were fooled to believe existed, but we found only treachery. What was this, we asked ourselves. Not the least feeling responsible for creating them, we saw it as our position to rectify our lapse in judgment.
It was a short battle, this war of retribution. PA, however, decided to live hiding in the *****s and shadows and ever running from our fire. After spending inordinate amounts of time in the hiding, they occasionally attempt to resurrect themselves to no avail. These are then followed by long lapses of hole dwelling. Sometimes the attempts to fight back are bewildering. Perhaps they were trying to be phoenixes that arose from their own ashes time and time again. However, to us they took on the image not of rebirth but of the refusal to accept death. Undead, zombies, walking corpses that forgot what it meant to be alive.
Looking back on all this, I must acknowledge that these things have shaped much of what is right now. We have PA to thank for the birth of Robert. However, it is difficult to fathom how one can endure such a situation. There can be honor in both victory and defeat. To linger on as a corpse is nothing but rotten.
Barely a week ago, PA comissioned CoC to attack us in Empire. We welcome these attacks, especially because of the spoils we acquired from CoC. These spoils have been sold and the money used to commission BDCI into an Empire war versus PA.
Why choose this fate? Is there a perverted hope that by prolonging this decayed life, the call to evolve shall pass you by? Evolution is inevitable, embrace it and find peace in death.
It is over, I urge PA with this post to finally admit it to themselves, and let this be the closure.
Today, 9 corporations withdrew from PA, leaving nothing left.
Rest in peace.

That's what we, and EVOL, and pretty much everyone who went into that war, said at the beginning. However, PA didn't collapse by itself - it collapsed under pressure. That is how wars are won in EVE. And I would like to congratulate our friends on a glorious victory.
P.S cool post.

Finally, the great Phoenix Alliance war ends in victory for BoB. And the next chapter in EVE history begins--The Exodus Wars. Will BoB claim Venal? Or will they go on to topple a different alliance? Will XF and Stain manage to push CA over the edge with the help of FA? Will BoB come back with a vengeance? Nobody knows... just yet. -- The best description of alliances, ever:

"Victory; a matter of staying power."
A fitting quote that encompasses many aspects of this war. I just hope the leaders of PA, or what is left of it, will step up and admit defeat. For let's face it, PA don't have any staying power left.
There can be honour in defeat.

Well we got there in the end.
Amidst all the smack from during the war some was funny and some was just plain out of order and childish (not excluding myself there either were all guilty)
I had a damn good time all in all fighting PA
So i would like to make a virtual toast to all the fun fighting we have all had over the past months, in particular that one battle we had in 6nj with well over 100 ships, after teh lag settled and everyone settled into the fight it was a very awesome experience.
Well good game PA and all the corps which looked out for its interests and fought against us
Maybe our next incarnation of fighting we will all do we can just get on with the fun part and sack the smack.(Unless its in good taste of course) ź_ź
The only thing that remains now is.
What region do we set our autopilots for now?

I'm not the greatest authority on these things, I only read the corporate forums from time to time. However, I want to point out a few things;
Both the Evol/PA war and the recent FA/BoB war were started after someone "opened fire/threatened to open fire" on an Evolution pilot. In both cases, the involved parties supposedly apologized and offered to repay any damages. In both cases, Evolution grasped the casus belli with both hands and drove through their will.
Make no mistake about Evolution's might, but I allow myself to doubt their intentions. Is Molle carving himself an empire? Probably. It's something we'd all like to do. But what about the methods? Well, there is alot of stuff that goes on that never grace these forums.
I guess I'm not one to talk about "dishonest". Several corpmates of mine regularly infiltrate and clean out corporations for their own profit. Another, Ryctor, has gained some impressive notoriety through his ore thievery. While I don't engage in said activities, I don't object to them either, and I've (gleefully) helped in those cases where their actions led us to war. But I think I can say with some integrity that I've refrained from stabbing people in the back outright.
I think the FA is still trying to recover from the glaring wound in their back. I just hope that people don't forget the incident, and stop and think.
Is Evolution, and Molle, trustworthy? Can you rely on them to either stab you or not?
Meanwhile, I assume planetary bodies will continue to orbit Molle's ever-growing ego.

This post is about a week later than I really expected it, and about as true as the other 94387583467598476984758496 PA is dead threads that have popped up since the GNW has started. There may have been a few corporations that parted ways, but there are still twice as many as BoB has on a good day.

Good game everyone. Well played. And congratulations to all the Northern allies that have made this happen over the last six months.

Originally by: Raem Civrie I'm not the greatest authority on these things, I only read the corporate forums from time to time. However, I want to point out a few things;

Blame Cochise for everything.
He's the worst leader I've ever seen. Make that one of the worst person as well.
Under him both the PA and the 20th Legion crumbled. Over the last few months, many core and old time members have left the 20th, and in his power hungry lust, Cochise kicked out the original founder of the 20th, AngelThunder, in his childish rage.
Read his posts and you'll understand how little respect he has for others. Basic human respect, basic social skills, are something he's sorely lacking. He seems to have a terrible "midas touch" which destroy everything that he comes into contact with.
I blame him for the downfall of The Phoenix Alliance and the 20th. The day he was appointed as the PA chairman was the day the alliance died. He just can't handle people who see things differently from him or refuse to bow to him or give in to him.
What a sad day |

One day Leno this is going to make a brilliant story and everyone who played a part can be proud to say "I was there during the Great Northern War". Its a really special thing that a single-sharded game of Eve's scope has going for it.
We should all get a page or two in the Eve Chronicles I think

Hold on now, didnt PA claim that there was 23234234 corps attacking PA, I thought we outnumbered them and not vice versa... oh, well, it seems I've been wrong.
Now let me ask you this, if the whole of PA couldnt do anything about our presence in Venal, what can half of it do? --

Respect to all those corps leaving the PA, good luck for the future & good game for the last 8 months or so - it's been a lot of fun!
Especially good luck to NSN, we always said at the beginning of the war that we intended to remain friends at the end of it, I look forward to sorting your standings out and having a few cold ones with Bamfesar, Graltok, Leafo and the boys.

It toke some time but there is no denying that PA is nothing compared to it's formerself. BoB knows and PA knows it, although the latter may deny iton the forums.
What is left of PA can be easily ignored because it is no longer capable of defending it's 'claimed' region. PA is now reduced to an alliance in Empire who visits a 0.0 region to dwell on memories. That is what is left of the PA memories of days long gone.
This is not a hijack

Sadly, I wasn't playing much when the GNW started, but I enjoyed it when I got up here, both the fighting ingame, and the fighting on the forums.
respect to everyone involved (yes, even him)
Maybe we'll meet again, in some other region of space...

I only joined the war about two months ago. I was never in an actual fleet battle vs PA, but I will never forget the Venal BNC night shift. We had some really fun cruiser and frigs fights and I'm not gonna forget them.
Good luck to all the corps in PA in their future endeavours.

Not really, little major players in that list. And not long either probably
GG PA and the rest of people involved in GNW at some stage or other. Let's end it and usher in the new era in the north.

althought it does indeed seem a harsh day for what is left of the pa, i have every intention of continuing to fight against bob, christ ive done it since is started pvping so dont know what else to do :)
personally a note of thanks for all the corps that got involved with the jade pupet army. congrats u got what u wanted i just hope u feel safe where ever uve run off too.
on a lighter note its been a privaledge fighting alonside and against some of the best pvp people in the game. id like to highlight i include both sides in this, well at least bob not the whole nca bunch.
i personally find it hard to belive and take that the whole bob conflict could have been finsihed if even half of the people that were in our alliance at the time would get off there arses and fight. real stab in the back in a sense while many of the pa have been fighitng for u, u sat back and didnt help. i hope all the veld and scordite u mined, and all the missions u ran were worth it.
kudos to all that did fight, thanks to all that helped in some way even if it wasnt in the fighting.
heres hoping thats whats left of the pa if it decides to fight does so with 100% commitment. if not im sure i can find somone bobs pickin on :) doubt theres going to be a shortage of that for a while

Edited by: Lucian Alucard on 11/12/2004 00:22:13 Well I am happy to hear that not all of you are leaving.
Jade puppet army? Ya ok....maybe at the beinging you had the right to say that but around mid June the three corps that ran NCA outside of PA space was VNTR,BNC and LOD. Look at those names long and hard then rub both of your brain cells together and you will realise that two-thirds of the said corps are now in BoB.
AVA- Another Venal Alliance
I don't know why people like Venal so much its a ****e region and its cursed to know end.

Edited by: Xuesia on 11/12/2004 01:04:28 So, it is finally over. What a time it has been.
It seems like only yesterday that two of us, Homo Erectus and myself, were flying around up north NPC hunting and checking out the area we had recently liberated.
I was one of the two Evolution Directors that was fired upon that day.
We were headed to H-PA to grab some modules left behind from the last war. We then planned to head up north to NPC hunt for a bit. Homo Erectus and I entered the system and were immediately confronted by six pilots. We didn't think much of it since it was Evolution and friends that gave those corporations, now calling themsleves the PA, the chance to begin anew. Everyone in Venal were friends of ours as most of them eventually joined us in the last war. We were on good terms with all of the corporations up north, and we wished them well. However, that soon changed.
When the six pilots of the newly formed PA announced that we may not pass, we took it as a jest. We told them outright that we wouldn't accept their preventing us access to the northern regions. They said, "leave or be fired upon". We said, "if you fire on us you fire on all of Evolution". They fired upon Homo Erectus and we fired back, taking one of them deep into armor before they retreated. We gave them the chance to end it right then and there. The PA were told: don't fire upon us and we'll go about our business, and you won't have yourselves a war. They kept typing in local that they needed to talk to their command to find out if we were allowed up here. We replied, "we dont care if you say we're allowed or not, we'll come here as we please and there's nothing you can do about it unless you want a war again".
We already knew we had a pass to Venal, we had it for weeks. Even then, we don't recognize claims to space, it's only yours if you can keep it. (reminder for everyone dealing with us)
After another 15 minutes of them telling us to leave and us telling them "no", we made the call to the rest of the Evolution fleet: "Put your guns on gents, looks like we have ourselves another fine war".
You see, what most people in the EVE universe just haven't realized yet after all this time is that if you don't want us as an enemy, don't target/shoot at our pilots. We get our strength through our commitment to each other and we will always respond to attacks upon any of our members. It may or may not be an immediate response, but rest assured we WILL be there when we choose.
In the end i can say this, GG PA it was fun.
"All men are created equal, it's just that some are more equal than others |

We all fought for slightly different reasons, however at the time it seemed like the right thing to do, the propaganda machine was doing overtime and PA was made out to be the most evilest unrighteous alliance in all of eve.
In retrospect If they had respected NAST and not tried to use it to their own ends and if they had handled the sanction issue honourably, if they had healed the rifts with rkk and evol then they'd be in Branch today happily dancing around their control towers and singing the megacyte song - but hey, where would the fun be in that?
I think lessons have been learnt, not just for PA but for all alliances in EVE in regards to diplomacy and war. Its not just about how militarily strong you are, keeping morale up is very important, it can make the difference between an alliance lasting 2 weeks (no names mentioned!) or 6 months. Staying power is important, take CA for example, they have been at war with everyone for ages and are loving it and still there. The difference is CA don't really have a big mining contingent in their alliance to keep happy like the PA did, as time passed I believe the mining corps in the PA put pressure on the alliance and became stubborn because they couldn't get to mine up north, I believe the PA started to break from within way before corps started to openly leave.
This was not just a war of big guns and blobs either, propaganda (probably the most effective form of warfare) ran PA ragged in the early days, so much they had to have blanket silence on the eve forums.
But lets not forget that literally every northern alliance/corp were at war with PA. Everyone vs one - it was simply a matter of time before their end, so considering that they have lasted around half a year in the northern war I think they deserve a immmense amount of credit.
The PA may be dead as a formidible alliance but they have a few partizan diehards that will probably never give up. The fire of the phoenix still burns in them for what its worth.
Lastly,
What now would be the agenda for those who seemed to live the last 6 months only wanting to destroy the PA with every last click of thier mouse? Specifically Jericho Fracton and RKK?

Thing is Lucian most Jericho pilots enjoy lots of things besides unrelenting pvp combat and such (though we do love blowing things up quite a lot). Its actually going to be very nice to try some new aspects of the game. Hey even the market works now in Exodus (some of the time) so we might find another transcranniel rush commodity to pimp *smiles at Ly'sol sweetly*
Seriously though I think its fair to say none of us are going to count our blessings for a while yet. Its likely some holdouts from the old PA will remain and theres going to be a need for mopping up and talking with our friends. I'm sure my CEO will have plenty to say in-game on the subject.
For now lets just leave it at the "good game everyone" and rest assured the future won't be boring. Expect amusing things in the new year!

I know my words will likely be met with flames, and that's ok.
First off, to all of the exiting PA corps:
Good luck, and godspeed. I hope you rebuild, and take with you what you have learned in this great conflict. I see you becoming prominent corporations.
It has been fun. I truly mean this. Through all of the smack, and posturing, and banter in local, to all of the great fleet battles, horrible ganks, and bistot mined, I have enjoyed it immensely.
To all of the corps that are clinging to a lost cause:
I will enjoy the weeks to come.
But, all in all, I will extend a heartfelt GG to the end of the Great Northern War.

You wont dictate how I play Eve. You never have. And you never will.
I've been in Venal since before any alliance was ever created, and the only time I'll leave is when I click the "Cancel Subscription" button.
And I'll be here long after you are gone.
Go ahead and GG all you want. It's all the same to me. And I'm still here.
But hey, I'm just 1 pilot.

PA is no more. It was fun while it lasted... and it probably wouldn't last as long if it wasn't for the war. We thought about leaving PA on multiple occasions but we are not the type to abandon the fight. However the time has come for now former corps of PA to go their separate ways. PA has crumbled from inside. -

Now that the war is over I would like to thank all of the fighters of PA that I have gone up against and taught me how to fight. Vlademire,LLeBRing,Acks,KIAeDDz,Artegg,Left,Mabon,Judduzz,Axel,Trip, **** I can go on to list everyone, you have brought me close to canceling and then turned my mind around after saw the forum wars we had had here.It was fun to hate you.
The greatest lesson I have learned from GNW was that the actions of one can effect the fate of many.
To Oberon,Rona,CDI,NSN,Bladerunners,OCC,good luck and thanks for some of the funnest points in my 15 years of gamming.
GODS your the only guys I still loath
GG,Great fight hope you find a new home with a bit less problems. Besides Venal is cursed, its Ebil to no end look at what happens when live there .

/me rembers reading the rkk forums and realises that that ideas gone out of the window. i wonder if the people who jumped on realise now that this is just a guy that got ****ed off with the pa for kicking him out and waited for an opertunity.

Edited by: KIAInkZ on 11/12/2004 11:37:17 The PA never had any problem with leadership.
Halseth and Cochise were never anything but a good thing for the alliance and still have my uttermost respect.
The PA's biggest problem was always itself, and the other problem is that it's main PVP corps either spoke different languages or were in different timezones, so they never got much chance to work together. A real shame because all it's military power was carved up into small areas.
Had these corps not been so divided, I think it would have been a whole different story.
Evol are massive and you consistently need a lot of pilots. Eventually, people just get ****ed off with each other, but hey ho, sure we'll be seeing you again soon ;) ---

What a sad day
how brave altman.
you talk about respect yet you dont show the respect back by posting with your main, making your post completly hipocrital and therefore void.
on to the subject.
its one of those things which makes you wonder isnt it. are people in 2 to 3 years (if eve is still going) going to be able to say to people, you heard the story of the great nothern war, and some of us will be able to say "i was there" ( at least for a lot of it in my case). its one of those turns of events that makes eve that little bit special, even tho it is happening to people i consider good friends, it just shows how dynamic eve is.
good luck to the corperations who are leaving. i wish you well in your endevours. --------------------------------------------------------

From the very start of this war, til the end of it, which we now see...
This has been the most bloody, most exhausting, most rewarding, most boring, most enjoyable war ever.
We have gone up against various opponents in our days, and we have seen PA go from a blobbing alliance, to a wolfpack hunting alliance. At the end of the day, the "nub" stamp of PA has been removed, and we have seen formidable fighters being born from this war. Some has moved on to other pastures, some will remain where they are.
Make no mistake, this was the most bloody war eve seen so far. BKG has been the most contested system in eve during months, the station in the system has changed hands up to 20 times in a day at its peak, and the thrill of sitting waiting for battles to come 24/7, with tons of friends and tons of hostiles, just waiting for the moment....
Personally, im glad its over, and that we can now move on to new things.
Some of our opponents in this war, deserves respect. They have it. Some of our oppenents in this war, will never stop. Neither will we.
Fly safely.

This has indeed been a real endurance test of a war, very hard fought by both sides, a huge amount of fun and very rewarding indeed. From empire wars to BKG, to Pure Blind to H-PA, victories and losses it's been a blast.
I have a lot of respect for many of the PA or recently ex-PA who I really did not know prior to the war and have really enjoyed fighting you guys.

All done?
good.
PA died because they were arrogant *snip* who thought they could bully people around.
Born from their arrogance is BoB.
To all those that thought an alliance could not be destroyed... take a look around us.
BoB has come a long way from it's inception in BKG and this is just the beginning...

Oh DBP..
Tell me, why cant you be any more mature? Look at the posts of Molle, Shrike, and some evolution guys. Then look at yours. It was a fight, both sides fought vailantly, now its over.
Now tell me, if you play football with your 'friends', and ocassionaly win, do you approach them after the match and say 'wtfomg i totally pwnz0rz j00 dewd! j00 R weakz0rz!' ?
Because in this virtual world you do. I dont really care about your irl background that might've caused that, but if the real power behind the BoB can behave decently, and you cant, then something must be wrong here. Or you just try to mark that you were the part of it?
Only thing you can be proud of is provoking this whole war, dragging your allies into it, looking at UNICOR fall under TPS, looking at FU falling to PA, looking at CoD surrender, and now you can be proud that you are backstabbing the remnants of your former allies. Now you have your place in BoB and can feel 'the power' but with the cost of betraying and letting down all these people that addressed you as a friend and ally. You must be proud of yourself now.
You wtfomgpwnz0rz eve. GG.
And GG to all involved in this conflict, its been fun. I'm glad to see that most of the people can take the outcome in a decent and polite manner. -- Portfolio (currently .PL only) - nestor.art.pl

Unlike the powerful fleets of BoB with their myriad ships, I spent most of the war fighting on my own, making guerilla strikes with frigates and interceptors, so I've gotten to see a different side of the war, and I've fought against different people than many of BoB have. Some of them have been awful smack talkers, most of them have been decent, and I've grown to be friendly with a bunch of them, too. I've got tremendous respect for the "grunt" fighters within the PA who've stuck by their alliance for a very long time in a war where they were heavily outnumbered. That sort of loyalty is a credit to them, regardless of how right or wrong the alliance leadership may have been, and it will be something they can take away with them and be proud of at the end of the day.
To the corps departing the PA, good luck. I hope the future brings good things to you. To the ones who decide to remain and continue to fight, I will see you in space.

personally i think DBP is entitled to what he thinks, he doesnt like a number of the PA ppl for a very good reason, and so he doesnt have to treat all them with respect if he doesnt want to. There are a several PA post the same way, its not about maturity its about the persons mentality towards those he doesnt like. He is entitled to his opinions just like everyone else. ---------------

You really do have a chip on your shoulder dont you...? You came to curse for a week, we had fun, but at no point in the fighting did CA once think we couldnt handle you. We could... for an eternity...
CA has been fighting for a long long time, we have grown around fighting, we have flourished around fighting, we are fighters.
Your statement is a very big one, but as you know PA was a new alliance, only by taking down one of the old-alliance will you backup that claim.

I for myself hope SE won't taint itself by taking in leftovers from PA.
They were and are useless bums who never had the strenght, skills or guts to fight.
Congrats to A99 corp for being my most remembered corp, because of my "1v1" against one of them, when he brought 2 friends to fight me and I killed 2 and the third one ran away. Unless SE explicitly forbids me, then A99's mining ops in empire will still be under the threat of my attacks.

Seriously, HUGE props to the participants of the GNW. Everyone give yourselves a big round of applause. I hope that that this epic and dramatic strugle has helped provide content to what I consider online gamings greatest (and most underated) achievement; EVE ONLINE. What other MMORPG can combine the intrigue, propaganda, political manuvering and huge space battles into a dramatic scene played out for the entire community to see ALL ON ONE SHARD?!?
Anywho, look for the book someday. It will be a shocker.

Ohh for crying out loud...
* Arrogance: "Yo, Stain! when we tell you to not shoot noobies in your war zones then you better don't, because we'll send in false noobies to test you. And when we see our enemy in your gang and feel like shooting them, then you better not interfere or else." ... check * Contempt: "We shoot dirty pirates. think Mr.Kettle is calling, something about Celestial Apocalypse's rent for the glass office being due...

"1) Thats not the whole story about the stain war, try again dear..check"
You'd have a good point here if i was actually trying to tell the whole story of the 'stain war'. I wasn't -- it's just highlight of the parts where CA's arrogance shined. So unless you go as far as to deny they ever happened check remains valid, sorry.
"3) We never claimed to be the only corp with balls fighting alliances..check"
Perhaps you personally didn't. But don't be hasty to speak for all of your corp mates before you check some of the quite recent threads. ^^
Bottom line, the point still remains; arrogance, pride and contempt are pretty much the definition of your average Eve PvP'er, including (but not limited to) the Celest crew. To single out someone because of these traits?
Tis' silliness, nothing more.

The only corporations in EVE I know of that engaged one of the major alliances head on are M0o, Evolution and ATUK. they had the balls and skill to do it.
There are tons of other corporations that somewhat "pirate" (I don't know a better word for it) the alliances in game, they're not a real threat to an alliance, but can be annoying in blockading a frequently used route. |
