Could the autopilot detect and use the MicroWarp drive or the Afterburner if it is fitted?
I've heard of the trick of a stack of pennies on F8 and a remapped MWD to bind it to F8. Seeing as how everyone who wants to AFK Autopilot + MWD / AB can do it already, why not make it a feature.
Pro's: 1. Userfriendly and intuitive.
2. I'd think that the stack of pennies trick will send a lot of commands to the server, so this solution might reduce the server load. (I'm not sure how this works).
Con's: None?

If you want to fly faster, dont use the autopilot. why should you basically be as fast as someone manually flying the route?

I don't need to fly faster, with a pennystack, I'm auto MWD whenever I'd want. For my AFK-Travelling/Tosti making/getting drinks/etc., I use a nice little empty inty with a 4k MWD'd topspeed, so the traveltime is not the the main issue.
I'm asking for the automation of a feature that everyone has to his/her disposal and is not currently available in EVE.
(Also, see that I'm not asking for a Warp to 0 while Autopilotting)

Edited by: Ekrid on 07/06/2010 14:44:44 because "enterprising" people will develop mechanical ways to make their computer do something the game was not build to do automatically (WTZ DIDNT EXIST IN THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME, AND IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER BACK THEN, BUT THEN PEOPLE MADE WTZ BOOKMARKS, SO CCP TRASHE THEM AND GAVE US WTZ FOR MANUAL) and so the game haas to change to accomodate people finding creative ways t oabuse it via mechanical means, such as taping mice together to macro while not using a program on the computers t odo it for you.
so in effect, you see how people tricking the game actually makes things worse for everyone. the original game was much more harsh than now. but carebears and whiners made up the bookmark trick and the penny stack trick, and so the game has to change to be fair to everyone, so if u penny stacck to abuse the game, you can die in fire.

So every time someone finds a way around a game mechanic CCP has to accomodate all the players and make the game even easier? haha
To the OP: We don't need this stuff. If you wanna go faster, do manual flight.

They wouldn't have done it if it had not created a metric ton of lag.
Also this. Eve is small enough as is due to wtz. Originally by: Grarr Dexx So every time someone finds a way around a game mechanic CCP has to accomodate all the players and make the game even easier? haha To the OP: We don't need this stuff. If you wanna go faster, do manual flight.

Either fit out a fast frigate for speed when it lands 15kms from gate or WTZ if you want to go fast. don't even bother with this trick, I had heard about it and one morning when I got up had to make a long trip across empire while in the shower but after the first time of leaving a paper weight on the keyboard it made so much bleeping in 3 seconds I turned it off before I put my fist through the wall from it being annoying .

manual flight to go faster.
Although I do use this autopilot + mwd trick when holding my kid or doing something alt tabbed. If I miss spanking the mwd here and there...meh no biggy. Not seeing a game change to accomodate these habits.
Or could have waht I call speed afk'ers. Faster racial frig set for speed (OD injectors, speed rigs, warp rig if motivated). Surpised how fast this gets me to point b sometimes on autopilot no interaction.

if you actually read what I said I was stating I was against CCP doing that because they're compromising the original ideas of the game, which I think were harsher and more realistic and balanced and fair. but people suck, which is why we cant have nice things.

I think that it would be simpler (code wise) for CCP to just set the autopilot to WTZ.
Travel in EVE is among the worst in the games I have played. The only time that it is not boring is when you have enemies on your tail looking to crack you open and take the candy! Anyone stupid enough to AP in 0.0 or low-sec deserves to get blown up.
I doubt that anyone who loads his ship with something that he knows might get him ganked would AP in high-sec. _______________________________________________

Are you using sarcasm or don't get out much lol?
Why empire ganking exists...always those people who think I'll load up my itty 5 with t2 frigs and go watch tv while it flies, what's the worst that could happen? Or my fave and the ships that have me thinking I could just this once...the afk faction fit CNR.

Here's another trick: turn off keyboard bleeping. Should be an option in your bios.
If not, here's another trick: un-plug your pc speaker. It very easy and completely safe to do. Beeping problem solved.
To OP: I agree, but there are a bunch of naysayers that have far too much time on their hands, so don't expect a lot of support.

You seem very angry. Do you need a hug? Btw, I don't think people invented the bm trick for safety's sake alone, I believe people also wanted to save time. If you're having a hard time grasping this, then take a freighter and set a 50+ route through highsec. Now tell me it's fun to fly "manually". In fact, tell what bit in particular you felt was manual about that trip.

1. WTB freighter with AB/MWD 2. freighters get "fun" when having a buddy in a rapier/hyena.

this actually needed. tyrannis did something to collision mesh on certain caldari station designs. Warp to certain directions in the undock area...and dance with the station (charon don't dance too well). Did not have this problem in dominion. So have to fly out a bit to clear the station. Charon not winning any eve races anytime soon for this part lol.
But a bait frieghter with some speed mods do makes for some possibilities. Hell if motivated, be one hell of bumper ship once up to full speed lol. Mass and speed...nice way to clear ships out of a pos lol.

Confirming a freighter being flown manually is faster than a freighter on AP so we clearly need to change...ohwait.
Basically, if you want the luxury of travelling with zero interaction with the game once you commence the journey and engage Autopilot...well, accept that it taking time is the 'cost' of this.
Autopilot w/ warp to zero? No.

Edited by: Absinyth on 16/06/2010 15:54:46 Isn't the point of Eve is to play the game and not have the game do everything for you automatically?
If the stack of pennies work then do that and you're getting what you want. If you want to travel faster than like everyone is saying, manual flight warp to zero. If you've been playing for awhile you would know that the closest you could warp to any celestial object was 15km. Be happy with what you got cause honestly if the devs wanted to they could just take out the autopilot feature all together. Wouldn't that be worse?
This suggestion is just not practical and hopefully doesn't become implemented and doesn't affect current gameplay.
