Hi guys and girls,
I'm getting rather unhappy with EVE. Here's why:
1.) It's supposed to be a game where the player makes choices and has influence on the game. No limitations as it's playing in the future and apparently we've discovered even warp drive. So why then is this game so damn limited? All you can do is jump around gates, go to generic stations that pretty much look all the same and do nothing but war (and I LOVE that ****ing music in Amarr stations, can you please turn that off or give the option for it???). Oh I forgot - you can become a miner-nerd sitting in your Hulk wasting your lifetime for some ore which is sometimes mining "the shadows of its former glory" nooooooo the advanced technologies of the future will not have systems to recognize that. Also the strip miners mine for the full 3min and then ALL AT ONCE the ore comes into your cargohold. Hmmm interesting concept! So basically you're just crushing the asteroids and then use a tractorbeam and get it into your ship eh? Sorry dudes - this is stupid. Who thought of crap like that?
2.) Skills. Oh yeah baby - the one and only reason to stay in EVE because you HOPE that with the NEW SHIP it will FINALLY BE FUN! uh oh.....mistake! You'll just waste a year of your life. Of course lvl5 always takes weeks sometimes months to get done. Oh that is just so much fun! Enjoyable! EVE-philosophy: If you would be able to train all skills you'd quit playing eve. And of course every month counts. I'm not totally against skills- just don't make them waste my life! It's not fun watching a damn skill get trained for a month. Eve is a game - it should be FUN. But it has become WORK.
3.) New planet interface......great. Adds so much more fun to the game. Now you can drop stuff on planets (Btw I love that description on why you can drop them on the surface without them taking any damage HAHAHA - who in your team things of BS like that? PLEASE come up with cool stories.....not some BS). And don't those dots look great? Yep....that was worth the fun. Some dots that produce some gas that you can sell. WOW. so much fun! You can even see the surface! Some blueish background color. WOW. This is aweseome. This is a better-than life experience!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - get some guys from EA GAMES or some other professional programmers into your house. They'll make EVE look like a game. They'll add gameplay and action, interaction and storyline into this game. The IDEA of EVE is great. It really is. And I'd love to see that one day. But right now it looks like some guys who don't have fun in their real lives try to make a funny game that turned out to be work instead of fun!
Looking at the stats - how many people are logged in at once and how much you ask for per month - you must be making enough money to create a fun game out of it.
Oh one more lovely thing - that autopilot of course cannot directly get you to the gate, nooo the autopilot is dumb and has to stop at 30km. Hmmm did you know that the current Airbus is more sophisticated? They can land the plane without the pilot with fog on the runway. But in the future where we get even so smart to get a WARP DRIVE done - the autopilot has to stop 30km before the gate. And of course it is unable to dock into the gate once the destination is reached. Hmmm ! GREAT GUYS......YOU ROCK - BIG TIME. Rethink your strategies please and come up with something USEFUL, something that ENHANCES the game, not makes it more work, more SKILLS or any other time-wasting bull****.
Make it FUN PELASE
That's my petition.
Get going - I'm not going to prolong my years subscription if things stay the way they are.
thanks for listening.

That's the point most people will probably stop reading.
I don't think you're playing the right game. If you want a theme park go play one of those Diku inspired games. You also seem overly fixated on realism. At least you haven't touched on the underwater physics yet.

It's not "realism" - its about an experience. Visual impressions help a lot to enhance experience. Real life is more fun than the game - now maybe some of you don't have fun in real life and you hide in the game - but life is fun. And this game is supposed to ADD FUN to the life - and not take fun away from it.
Gathering items, training skills, mining ore, increasing standings = fun? Don't think so.
I'm sorry to say that - I had big hopes for this game.

The game isn't for everyone and you pretty much describe yourself as one of those who it isn't designed to please. Don't take it personally, but you should play one of the huge ammount of games allready catering to your tastes instead trying to ruin ours. It is ok to admit it and go play something else. You will be happier and we will be happier.

I must agree to all statements Jeff said. It's true. This game turns out to be WORK rather than fun.
Now of course the complexity of the game makes it necessary for some duties that turn out to be chores.
However waiting for a skill to develop doesn't mean that the RL pilot is skilled as well. Waiting for a skill and or getting real training to gain a skill is a different thing. Might be probably best to have EVE exams that will testify someones skill. Stupid RL people will therefore never be able to climbe the latter within EVE and therefore it will be easier for CEO's to filter officers from footsoldiers.
Anyways, this game is not a lot of fun. It takes LONG SETUPS for battles that are over within minutes.
Just some note here to be fair: Jeff is a trusted member of our corp and has served us exemplary and been a funny buddy to have around. Keep going!

I like how close corp mates are. They even learn how to write using the same style and agree about everything. They use consistent capitalization for eve which is normally very different between players. They allcaps certain words for emphasis. I wish my corp mates were like that.
You want the game to be FUN. You want action and storyline. The kind that EA delivers with quality year after year. The kind that holds you by the hand and you're the big damn hero just like everyone else who bought the game. The kind that only matters within the narrow slice of a game defined by developers and has nothing to do with playing a massively multiplayer single sharded persistent virtual world.

oh I forgot another lovely thing - you cannot crash into "large collidable objects" as they are called in the overview settings. So basically you're invincible. So "flying" the spaceship becomes boring too. You don't have to watch if you're crashing into the asteroids or if you warp too close to the gate. So these things are large and "collidable" but you can't collide with them :-) Hmm I wonder why lasers then even hit me :-) Of course warp drive many times takes me right through the planet. Now I don't want to be picky....I know this is for simplicity reasons. And I wouldn't complain if the rest of the game was a-okay.

Well, there is a lot to add:
You can't pilot the ship personally. Joystick? Pilot skills? Speed boosters? Evasive manouvers? and so on. You can't crash into another ship without getting severe damage from it - Ramming a ship. Why not? RL wars do that - A bigger ship ramming a smaller one. A tank ramming a car or house. When you warp - you warp through buildings and stars - like thru them - yeah, very realistic.
The problem with EVE is, that its a game of pilots, but none being a real one or even having the power to fly the vessel like one.

That's the point that you obviously didn't get - this game is LIMITED. In every aspect.
It doesn't need to be EA Games....it can be other developers - I just brought the first example that came to mind. It probably can even be the same developers.....with a new mindset, a new strategy....
But I'm happy that you enjoy the game.....we don't have to agree. This is a discussion forum.

And, as for ramming not doing anything, you have clearly never bumped a de-aggressing Nightmare 10km off gate with a MWD 'Phoon.
Do you really want ramming to be a part of the game anyway? You do realise that the very most crowded docking ramps can be a pain when you are in something like a Freighter already, right? What about Concord, if ramming did damage then you would clearly need someone to be held responsible in terms of Concord as you could kill people with it, unless the damage is extremely neglible (1-5), in which case why waste programming time on it at all?
If you want a reason for why bumping occurs, then keep in mind than an explosive torpedo is something similar to a nuclear missile, one of those will typically do, say, 500 damage to a battleships shield. As all ships are shielded, even when their shields are broken they are still 'there' just diminished to the point they can't protect the ship from extremely heavy firepower anymore then the force of 2 shielded ships colliding with one another would simply deflect each other as they in no way have that much force behind them.
As for planets, one could argue that because the warp drive weaves you in and out of space and time, while you are in a warp tunnel you can't collide with objects because you are not corporeal. Not to mention, losing a ship by warping into it, considering how expensive ships are, would be ridiculous.
It sounds like you don't really play the game at all, and if I was like you and just sat in high-sec grinding standings and training skills I would probably agree with you. If you want the game to be fun, go have fun. You said you want the game to be more realistic, but it is about as realistic as you make it that if you sit in your chair all day and don't do anything, you won't enjoy yourself. But if you go down to your local park with a knife and stab some children, you're having a ball. ----------------------------------------------- Mr.Kippling just launched a nuclear holocaust at third world countries! ... But he does make exceedingly good cakes. |

since when does life care how expensive things are? It's the duty of the EVE staff to figure out how to handle that. Concord could need some improvement as well.... And lovely example of the park and stabbing children. No wonder EVE is weird with people of your sense of humor enjoying the game.....

You Sir, are the first person i have EVER met who thinks that EA is a good company. And i met a ton of people in other games, be it RTSs, RPGs or FPSs. Maybe its better for you to just leave, games with a bit more depth and innovation wont make you happy.
