Hi,
Not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but I've searched high and low with no solution.
My ingame jukebox scrolls constantly if I hit play. If I pause it will stop, but goes immediately back to scrolling if I play again. It never actually plays a song. This issue occurs with the standard Eve playlist and any other songs I try to add.
Has anyone found a solution for this?
I am using Windows Vista 32 bit.
Thanks

Edited by: Max Zaldran on 16/06/2010 23:10:35 Well finally, someone besides me has this problem. I have EVE installed on 2 computers, my good one with Vista Premium 32 bit does exactly this, scrolls endlessly, can't pause, can't play, change the playlist and it continues.
The other computer, Vista Home 32 bit-Jukebox plays fine.
I'm right there with you in looking for a solution. I tried uninstalling completely, re-downloading and reinstalling, didn't work. Hopefully someone out there has a solution. Submitted an in-game petition and got a "Known Issue" response.
Edit: I'm dumb and can't type.

Sadly, we seem to be alone with our problem... I guess I'll try bugging CCP directly.
I'll post here if I find a solution.

Yeah, the jukebox is borked. It will play the first track then just trail on forever after the track has finished. Does the same thing on imported playlists. I just listen to EVE radio now. lol

The jukebox just skipping through tracks is a known issue on Windows Vista / Windows 7 systems that were shipped without Windows Media Player (for Windows 7 those were the N/KN editions if I am not mistaken, not entirely sure about the specific Windows Vista edition). Apparently the known issues page has not been updated for Tyrannis yet, I am forwarding this to the people responsible. :-)
EVE currently relies upon the Windows Media Player codecs to be installed for playing back MP3 files. However, since Microsoft was forced by the EU to ship a Windows version without Media Player these codecs are not available in certain versions of Windows (f.e. the N or KN editions of Windows 7). You can obtain the codec pack for Windows 7 K/KN versions from this page.

Ok, but my version of windows was shipped WITH Media player, as was the other computer that I use. Both computers have the same setup as far as media playback is concerned, but on one the jukebox works, and on the other it doesn't.

A dxdiag.txt of both machines could show a possible difference. :-)

I have mac, and the music goes for exactly 2 minutes or so into each song, each song has an exact time where it gets abruptly cut off and the next song plays. On my PC it used to play through the entire length, especially when manually playing the music, for me now, nope. There's 1, repeat 1, frigate in the T1 lineup designed to be a suicide tackler. the rest are for COMBAT. so don't tell me to tackle when I'm in a combat T1 frig. OR tell CCP to fix their mess. |

The mac issue is a known issue and we are still investigating what exactly is going wrong there. Regarding PC: your music playback stopped after Tyrannis release?

On which machine is the jukebox not working? The XP or Windows 7 one?

Can you people please file a bug report containing the following information:
- dxdiag.txt - the eve installation path - the rights with which you are running EVE
A guide on how to create a bug report can be found here.
Apart from missing codecs it could also be that for some reason EVE has no permission to open these files, in which case the playlist would also just skip through everything. It is strange, however, that the first song is played back in such a case but none of the subsequent ones.
Thanks a lot. :-)

Solved problem in my case.
I have SP2 XP and had same problem described in the first post , endless scrolling through list of songs. Short answer to the problem is codec.
I was missing mpeg layer 3 audio codec. I solved it with latest k lite mega codec pack search on google for it and popular codec sites it is well known codec pack. Make sure that you check all boxes that involve default opening with media player when you install it that codec. Eternal Will. |

The solution (for me anyway) was to install the MPEG Layer-3 Codec. You can find it with a simple search in google.
Initially I followed CCP's instructions to download a file 250mB in size to try to update my windows media. This did nothing, I was already updated.

I have had the exact same problem on my winXP professional machine here, and have not found a solution yet. I tried everything from new codecs, new soundcard drivers, deleting settings/cache folders, importing other mp3's, ... no success. The jukebox won't stop scrolling and never plays any music while every other sound effect works fine.
I hope my petition which I just filed helps.

I have Vista 64 Home and I have the same problem. initially it would never play a song from the Jukebox Interface and only play music when triggered by an Acceleration Gate, but then I installed the Layer 3 codec and it will now play a single song before going back to the endlessly scrolling bug.
Music players aren't exactly rocket science - so I hope a quick fix can be done?

I'm using Windows XP, and I get the same bug. And I'm pretty sure it came with Windows Media Player; I have it on my machine, and I'm 99.9% sure I didn't download it back in late 2005 when I bought the machine.
Also, the music played fine for a couple of years, after I started playing EVE in march 2007 or so. The bug only started about a year ago.

wondered if anyone has found a solution for vista machines
I'm running windows vista ultimate (32 bit) and like mentioned above used to be able to play music within eve fine up until about February 2010 (could be earlier/later).
would be nice if this is fixed as I would like to get back in to eve and find the lack of in game music slightly off putting.

Hello there,
I found a solution for my problem...
I'm using Windows 7.
I had ACE Megacodecs pack on my pc. I uninstalled it, then installed this version of K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 6.6.6.: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/KLite-Mega-Codec-Pack/1080441198/1
That's all I have done... and finally it's working for me.
Try out :)
Good luck!

for people looking here the following was put in another similar issues page:
Originally by: CCP Aporia Just to let you people know, this is on our radar and we are working on a solution which will hopefully make it into the client Soon(TM). The problem lies within the plug-in we are using to playback MP3 within our sound engine as it utilizes an old and no longer supported MP3 decoder, so we are replacing it with a more robust version.

It's been 6 months, do we have an update on what's wrong with the mac version yet? Exact same issue, ~ 2 minutes 5 seconds per song, then skips to the next one still happening. ---

This was broken on the Dominion release back in Dec 2009. I've had the endless scrolling bug since then.
CCP are aware, but your logs show nothing. The post-it note of this issue fell off the wall, and the eve forum post deleted. Dominion Known Issues
I run Vista 64. My system/drivers are updated regulaury, I've tried reinstalling EVE. None of these have helped.

Edited by: boseo on 24/01/2011 21:30:24 keep getting told to change my codec for it with no further instruction, which is not very helpful. Imo not very good way of fixing a solution when you tell someone to have wmp loaded, then when it is and it still don't work Basically go "I dunno you fix it"
the least they could do is give better support on how on fixing it if we have to do it ourselves.

Just to give a short update on this: We are still working on a solution that will solve the issue for PC and Mac players, i.e. replacing the existing mp3 plugin of our sound-engine. This is more complex and taking longer than originally expected, and is not necessarily on a high priority at the moment. If you want this issue to be prioritized higher then I would suggest taking this up with the CSM and/or to file more defects on this issue. :-)
Note please that re-installing the EVE client will not help with the "cycling through playlist" issue. If that occurs then in any case the problem is that either opening the file or playing back the file failed (for example you are having a custom playlist referencing files that no longer exist, or you are lacking the codec that windows wants to use for playing back MP3s).

I am also having this issue, I am running WinXP SP3. IF I quit the game like 4 times and restart it again and again by the 4th time I can get the track to play, but if I manually change the track then it starts to endlessly scroll. I hope they can get this fixed.

Update: As I stated before after a few restarts of the game I get music via the jukebox, well as it turns out it just plays one song over and over again. If I try to forward to another it starts scrolling. If I reselect the song that it played manually then it will also just scroll endlessly. I have read that this might be codec issue but I am not sure that is possible if it will play a single song. Also the song that is chooses to play when it does decide to play one is completely random but it can be from both a custom playlist or the games built in playlist.
Hope this helps.
