Why do you all hate the Drake?

It does too little damage and has too much tank. Fielded by fail teams to take up space and be annoying.

Drakes are awesome when fitted and used right. This tournament and the prevalence of HM only drakes does not combine too well, however.

I am getting much more used to its looks, but still can't shake the feeling it looks like a tea cosy of sorts that you put over your actual ship to stop it getting dusty in the hangar or something.
Plus the wonderfully villainous Naxias flies one, and I haven't managed to blow him up yet, so I find drakes exploding in the AT inspirational.

It's not a very good ship in this particular setting. It's serviceable, but not great which is what you're looking for.

I know, its crazy to think drakes are bad. Look at all the drake teams steam rolling through to the finals.
The long range dps alone makes it the king of ships, never mind the tank.

Well, you would be right if is wasn't for the fact that not a single drake managed to survive. Also unless I missed one from the reports found here all of the winning teams didn't even field a drake.
It must be an excellent ship for the winning teams to not even use one.

And yes, Drakes deserve to be hated. They are for pilots with small ********* that are afraid of flying a real mans ship. They take up space and theres a reason why they die. And indeed, I do hate missles.

Uh, we fielded a HAM drake in our Caldari Blaster own fest when we beat Kadeshi last week. It survived, along side of its blaster moa, ferox, and rokh brethren.
Last year, IIRC, we fielded a drake against Solar Fleet, which survived as well.
It's not a bad ship, it just needs to have a proper role. Keep in mind, it has a number of middle slots for ewar unless you're doing that stupid passive tank thing, and it can fit a gang link in the 8th high.

The tourny set up is generally* about ganking your opponents to get points. Drakes don't have that instant **** you dps. If not all the missiles from all the team hit the target at or near the same time there's too much time for the opposing team to get rep drones on the friendly/get reps in general on their friendly/burn out to range.

i think people end up hating it because people fleet up and then some noobish drake pilots have uber 1337 passive set ups or massive buffer to shields.
instead, having some good EW, to help the team out.
drakes almost always get shot at last because of the tank, but a EW drake, its a tarp =p

Cause it's imbalanced and its stats are way too high. Being a tech1 version of a Nighthawk (and not vice versa, since it was released later to begin with)
Drake doesn't deserve all those luxury DPS, tank, fittings and slots (meds in particular). And since it's so imbalanced and is absolutely free every b00n flies one. I'd bet it's
the most popular ship atm. And there's always a reason why a ship is popular. Mostly it happens when the ship is imbalanced (see the dramiel).
Oh, and it looks ugly as ****.
Finally, they just take too long to kill (c)

I think a big reason so many despise the drake has more to do with the ways it is used. MOST drakes in existence are used for PvE.. because, frankly, they are the best tool for the job (unless you're looking at something like marauder or CNR). Most will avoid PvP. that doesn't mean it is a BAD PvP ship, it's just that most drake pilots aren't PvP pilots.
I personally think that the drake can make an amazing PvP ship, however, there are so few drake pilots that even attempt PvP, you never/rarely see it.
Of course, we all know the Badger Mk II makes a great PvP ship, even though few attempt it either... :-)
Think about it, if the Drake-hate was based on the actual ship itself, it would extend to it's near twin the nighthawk.. though there's certainly no hate there. This confirms the suspicion that most drake hate is actually drake-pilot hate...
