Step 1.) Read This: http://www.starosta.com/3dshowcase/ihelp.html
Step 2.) Practice with the image on the page.
Step 3.) Pick one of these images:
Scorpion: http://i46.tinypic.com/w9uruc.jpg Apocalypse: http://i47.tinypic.com/o7ummc.jpg Tempest: http://i48.tinypic.com/257hssj.jpg Megathron: http://i49.tinypic.com/25sqtm0.jpg
Step 4.) Do it with that image.
Step 5.) Awesomeness!!!
Step 6.) Ask me to do more or how to do it yourself if you cant figure that out.
PS. Don't worry about crossing your eyes, there's no risk as long as you dont do it for >30 minutes. On another note, don't worry if you cant get it, it's not THAT awesome, and just relax, your eyes should focus themselves.

Awesome work. Would be even better in higher res (just crop out some of the excess side bits if you can) Only thing is I don't need to do the mega one - I have a 3D one sitting on my desk... *gently pats his Megathron model*
Do the Nyx next.

Cross your eyes while looking at it until a 3rd image appears in the middle. Relax and let your eyes focus on the image in the middle, they'll do it on their own.

I can do it, but this point is correct. The gaps are to far apart!
It's funny, the last imagine from the first website, my eyes simply 'snapped' into place. I didnt have to try to cross them nor did I have to slowly uncross them.
Thing is though.... whats the point? (or have I missed something)?

Negative. It's a major ***** to do, but it's possible. Like I said a few posts above, it's infinitely easier on the sample image in the first link OP posted.

Yeah I know mine aren't perfect, but the black bar in the middle is where the 3rd image is supposed to form, its only 200 pixels across compared to 1152-width images.
I just read that page and realized that it'd be easy and really accessible to just do it in EVE where you have a camera that you can carefully control.
Other people out there probably have far better graphics/skills with this so I'll let them do it.
For people who dont know how it's done: Start from a point looking at the ship, strafe a bit to your left and take a screencap (like an image for the left eye), then strafe a bit to the right and take another screencap (an image for the right eye). Then just put them side-by-side in photoshop/whatever. Check the pictures posted here to see how it's done if you're having trouble.

This should be a lot easier with the black bar gone. I understand what you are thinking using it as a space to overlap the actual image, but our eyes (or brain) dont work that way, its just a bigger and nonfunctional bit of image one needs to overlap. As it is now I need to cross so far that there is some tilt in my peripheral vision, making it hard to get the overlap sharp.
Should be much better with the bar gone, subject to see in 3d maximized in the frame, and with the window bezel from the preview window gone. Look at the other images posted, or the one from your tutorial, the way they are made makes them 'snap into place' as another poster suggested.

Edited by: DoNotTouch on 21/06/2010 15:27:17 if having troubles doin it, do it this way:
sit down in a comfortable position, get a pen,
now hold the top of the pen in between the monitor and your eyes, then concentrate on the tip of the pen so you focus it., now when concentrating at the screen, (you still focus the pen) you see 3-4 blurry pictures, move the pen forward or backwars until the pictures on the screen are only 3. (focus the pen, check picturecount,(you gotta get 3-nonoverlapping pictures), if its not right, move the pen, focus the pen back or forth and check pictures again, moving the pen and focussing it is pretty hard while concentrating on the pictures behind, so make it step by step.)
once you have only 3 pictures not overlapping on the screen just relax youre eyes but stay with focus on the pen, there should be a point when the picture on the screen gets sharp (only the middle one), now youll need some practice so you get the point where you have a sharp image in the back. when you have it, concentrate on a spot in the picture, right at the edge of your pen (which should be somewhre in the middle of the pic) now it may happen that you instantly focus the whole screen again and you dont see any 3d, try again, bring pen in position, concentrate, relax, get sharp image, and slowly focus a point on the middle pic right around your pen. at some point you get it and its just like WOOAAH ;-)
btw, clouds on planet are like one bazillion km in the air?

Distance from the center of each image to the center of the other on your monitor should be about the same as (or lower than) the distance between your pupils of your own eyes. High-resolution images on a small screen with a lot of space in-between ? BAD !
Images should have as little space in between them as possible. Also, the image size should be low enough, but not too small so you can still make out enough detail to recognize the ship.

OMG IVE BEEN LIVING MY LIFE IN 2D WHEN I COULD HAVE BEEN IN 3 DIMENSION GLORIOUSNESS 24/7.
This is pretty cool once you train your eyes. If you are having trouble with it use the finger/pen technique as a guide then after a little while you should be able to get to the stage where you jump to 3 DIMENSIONS almost instantly.
Most impressed by the planet pic and the way the clouds seem detached from the rest of the image, very nice.

The Nyx one should be better, I took out the space in the middle and cropped it to get just the ship and none of the window or space background.

One thing to note. When using the proven method and seeing planet in 3d, it actually appears as being transparent.
Look closely and you will see that it will appear that you can see through the planet other than the land masses which "hover" above it. The illusion is that the land is just hovering when in fact if you change your point of focus it appears the planet is see through. |

There is absolutely no need for a black bar. I have lots of 3D images like this and none of them have a black bar. All it does it make it harder to see. -----SIGNATURE-----

Edited by: Idicious Lightbane on 22/06/2010 04:43:10 Awsome stuff For those having trouble the pen or finger trick works very well, just focus your eyes on your finger while you see 3 images instead of 2 in the backround, I found the planets to be the easiest myself, eventually your eyes will 'focus' on the middle one. You will see your eyes try and adjust the focus quit a bit and it might take a while for the center one to sharpen up even if you see the 3d effect but it works, took me a good few tries to get it
The ships in the first post I found more difficult to see, the black line down the center kind of messes with it so try the planets and ships posted further down first.
