If you don't like the wait time, leave. Don't you have something better to do than whining about a company's patch days and being a little late? Seriously people get lives.
You all don't know a single thing about running a company, let alone what it takes to deploy various fixes, additions and new programs (i.e. SP pool distribution). It's not easy, so give them time. I swear it's the same everyday, you lot just get more and more impatient.
"Give us compensation!" "CCP is a horrid company!" "You idiots can't do anything right!" Honestly, if you think that way, take your money somewhere else. We don't need whining and b****ing here again and again every patch day. Go play an offline game or something that has no downtime at all, I'm sure that would be more to your liking. Don't forget to contract me your stuff on the way out. :)

Originally by: ReaperOfSly Well no, since there are always going to be unexpected problems that come up. What they should do is estimate a completion time far greater than what it will actually take, rather than being optimistic and failing.
Thanks for the feedback, but I really should have done a /sarcasm on and /sarcasm off switch, because I was being VERY sarcastic.
TBH, I am shocked that CCP is compensating us ANYTHING. In the 7 years I have been here this is the most meaningful compensation I can EVER remember them having done. I mean, they have credited the entire customer base a day or two of time in the past, but back-dated SP is MUCH better.
So, yeah, I can wait. It's just sadly funny is all that you'd THINK there would have been some pressure for them to meet the deadline this time.
Cheers! *

There is one single question. Why they are setting the expected downtime every time too early. Everyone would be happy if they say:" Ok guys extended downtime till 15:00 UTC and they finish their job at 14:30 and not one hour here and one additional there. Next time CCP when you announce an expected downtime end publish the time you need and not the time you think it takes in a perfect world :). This is no flame no whine only a suggestion.

True. But constantly failing at job-time completion estimates isn't lunacy, in just plain incompetence; no matter how you slice it. *

Look ya should all know CCP like nothing better than a Hamster sandwich at lunch, once they've eaten they will replace the server hamster's with fresh one's and all will be well again in the world/universe.
Should be. Estimated time of startup "SoonÖ"

Yeah, I find it an odd an irksome habit of theirs to extend the estimated downtime completion by like half an hour 4-5 times a patch. It makes you feel that the estimate is exact when they give an exact time a mere hour in the future, but that slips by and all you get is another adjusted estimate.
Seems kinda funny though that we are stuck grumbling over extended downtime deploying the reward system to compensate us for extended downtime, coz I saw precious little else in those patch notes...

When I quit EVE last year I would only see 30k players on. When I resubscribed last week there was 49k players on. Dying? I think not.

If I might be so bold as to make a constructive suggestion, perhaps the folks who estimate the downtime could adopt a policy of under-promising and over-delivering. Add 2-3 hours to the actual DT estimate to set people's expectations, and then when the servers are up before that, people marvel at the fact CCP always gets done faster than anticipated.
...or remove the time estimates altogether. The estimates create reasonable expectations, and missing the marks creates dissatisfaction that's wholly avoidable.

There is a bit of unfairness in this, Australian players losing basically a day worth of play while a lot of Americans will just log in when they normally do, download the patch and don't notice any lost play.
So, would random downtimes be better? So it's not European players snatching all the nice ABC ores right after DT?
