Of course it is.
On a positive note, that's the first patch that has worked with the autopatcher on my XP64 machine since I installed it, so thanks for fixing THAT little pain in the ass for some of us.
But .. waaah no Eve, I'm gonna have to sit in the lounge and talk to my GF/wife and/or interact with my kids or go down the pub and have a beer or go out and enjoy the sunshine or do some work or sleep or eat or go to the bottle shop or ....
FFS every patch day it's the same old *******s. On the forums that is.
CCP do not do this deliberately. They don't build up your hopes falsely, just to tickle their sadistic urges. **** happens, particularly in software deployments where you are dealing with such a gigantic live system. Very, very few large scale deployments go according to plan.
Sit back, open a beer and relax. Hey, you could even watch Wimbledon or something, and I believe there's something called the World Cup on?

another evening of no eve due to an extended downtime.
why cant they vary the times of when they start these things.
now not due to come back online till midnight West Aussie time
There is a bit of unfairness in this, Australian players losing basically a day worth of play while a lot of Americans will just log in when they normally do, download the patch and don't notice any lost play.
So, would random downtimes be better? So it's not European players snatching all the nice ABC ores right after DT?
How about they do downtime whenever they are at work?

No, it would not be better. Untill the bloody server is in australia being attacked by dropbears, downtime is when the teechs at the server facility are at work, and the ccp staff in Iceland are in the office.

Good point.
And all the Tour de France per-hype is happening. "Can Lance, with his single testicle, win again and make history and become the only man to win tour with both *********, and later with only one?" ...

Continually moving time back just makes them look like they have no control.
Not a surprise but would be nice to get a realistic timescale....

I don't expect that CCP are bothered by the whining at all, in fact, probably quite the opposite. It must be quite financially encouraging to see that a large number of your subscribers entire existences revolve around your monthly subbed internet spaceship game. That's the sort of player base addiction you can take to the bank..........!

Yes there is some unfairness in this, but this is one of the pitfalls that comes with being worldwide and also single-server. You know the deal when you sign up, and when I was in Aus (east coast) for a year, DT served as a great reminder to **** off to bed so I was awake to go to work tomorrow. Sucks more for West Aussie TZ though, I agree.
Random DT is not the answer (because I don't think there's really a question about DT itself). Big releases on the other hand never start at downtime, they start much earlier. Perhaps they should start all these smaller patches before DT as well, with the aim of having the server back in time for normal DT, which gives them an hour of screw-up time by default.
The US is obviously the biggest market, and their schedules are always designed to cause the least impact there (commercial sense of course). Perhaps this would be an idea?

TBH, I couldn't give a damn about ambulation right from the time it was announced, and I'm not bothered in the slightest by it's continued absence.

It's up.
So stop whining! ----------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it.

Edited by: Zverofaust on 29/06/2010 16:02:15 I really feel sorry for CCP. I've been developer on some comparitively tiny indy projects and I really hate criticism or when things go wrong -- and I only have to deal with a few dozen players. I can only imagine the nervous breakdowns some CCP employees have every time this **** happens (which admittedly is quite frequent).
I'm pretty bitter about it but I've also accepted that Eve is not some life-sustaining sustenance, the lack of which threatens my well-being and livelihood. It's a game, and there are quite literally thousands and thousands of other games out there to choose from if I really have an irreconcilable problem with CCP or Eve. I'll still play it and so will most of you.
Edit: Also, I lolforgot to set more training time on one of my accounts, so it stopped training just before DT started. I meant to last night but I got tired and fell asleep. Any chance of more reimbursement CCP? ^_^
