Edited by: Shaalira D''arc on 30/06/2010 01:40:14 The recent free ship (thank you!) has a rather attractive and unique model. To ensure that CCP gets the most mileage from its introduction, I suggest the same model be repurposed for additional, skill-based, utility ships.
Some of these ideas were gleaned off of forum discusions, and I in no way take credit for them.
Idea #1: Salvage Ship Despite the utility of salvagecanes and salvage catalysts, there is a distinct lack of dedicated salvage ships.
Skill-based Ability: Bonus to salvager / tractor beam length, and/or reduction in capacitor usage. Fitting: Large number of high slots, decent speed and cargo.
Idea #2: Gas-Harvesting Ship Gas harvesting ships see widespread use in w-space, nullsec, and even in certain regions of empire space. Because there are no specialized gas-harvesting ships, most people tend to just repurpose cruisers and battlecruisers for the task.
Skill-based Ability: Bonus to gas harvesting yield and/or reduction in gas harvester fitting requirements. Fittings: Enough High Slots and CPU to carry 5 tech 2 gas harvesters.
Idea #3: Better Primae A tech two version of this ship would have further reductions in sig radius, further increases in plating and tank potential, as well as a skill-based increase in planetary commodity holds.

Yes... thanks for the new ship...
A useless ship.
It has no bonuses... its got too small of an overall cargo hold layout for the extreme PI... hell my Industrial ship would do better.... at least I could fit a cloak on it and do what I need to do for crying out loud.

Yes, CCP Please make the primae better. honstaly id say just make 3 variations 1 for each of these ideas. the primae is to awsome looking to be a non replaceable ship. Agent texas is a bit of a badass |

Darn! You beat me to the first "Primae Boost" thread! I agree. The ship is useless beyond being a newbie industrial. I also think that a ship this pretty should not only be useful for newbies with low SP. I think CCP missed a great opportunity with this ship.
My Proposal: This ship should have been similar to T3 cruisers, obviously not T3 but have similar user reconfiguration through the use of subsystems. CCP could have given everyone the (Suggested rank 5) skill "Ore Industrial" to redeem and train.
Now the good bit. The Subsystems:
I don't think that the ships appearance should change, just the ships fitting and abilities. Also, only 3 Subsystems instead of 5 to force specialisation in certain fields.
Subsystem suggestions... I'll post some later when I figure out realistic stats but that doesn't stop everyone else posting their subsystem ideas
All these items (and the ship it self) should be seeded in the Ore LP store as items and BPC's. However, I would also suggest that they are able to be sold on the market, not just contracts.

Supported on both counts. Having a "free" hanger ornament is nice, but salvaging all that dev time used in creating that amazing model into something the playerbase has been asking for would be super-awesome.

Salvager and Gas Cloud Harvester don't need a turret hardpoint (of which the primae has none), so that should definitely be doable.
Not sure on the last part, T2 Industrials are already perfect for PI in dangerous areas. Maybe a "deployed" mode where the Primae acts as a Customs Office? It already looks like a baby rorqual.

Making any of these into a "real" ship would be a much more fantastic gift to a. players, b. the artists that designed it.

Good bonuses would be a role bonus increased tractor beam range and speed and also a salvager bonus based on skill level (obviously). I don't even think a large number of hi-slots is necessary. Four should do the trick. Bring two wrecks over and salvage them. With the bonuses should still go faster than with a destroyer or salvage hurricane. Mid slots one would be enough (propulsion mod). Maybe 3 low slots for cargo expanders or warp core stabs?
I love the ship model. The best gift ship ever. Although in it's current form I won't ever bring it outside of station.
The reason I would like to see it as a salvaging ship and not any of the other ideas is the ship kind of reminds me of the Serenity (from Firefly TV show). The scene I think of off the top of my head is the crew outside opening that wreck up for some goodies then getting nearly caught by the Alliance.

Personally I'd like a gas ship to use a modified model that looks more like a tanker though.

I was very disappointed when I found it was mostly just hangar decoration. I figure leave it at its current mass (battlecruiser I think)and propulsion. Give it a cargo bay somewhere between 500-1000m3, 3 rigging points and a 4/3/4 slot layout with no weapon hardpoints. Put a role bonus for tractor beams. Maybe +50% range and velocity so it doesn't compete too directly with marauders or the orca. Give an on skill bonus for cap capacity or reduced salvage cycle duration. (or salvage chance) A max range of 45km or so with a weak scan res would keep it being used in its intended role without some extremes of creativity. And, of course, keep it unrestricted as far as mission gates are concerned. It wouldn't necessarily be "better" than using a destroyer for the same purpose, but it would make it not useless.

Not supported for the simple reason that its pointless giving a useless ship a role if you don't also give the player base the ability to build them.
However I do agree the model is very good and would support a proposal to get the same model makers/designer to go through and redesign some of the older ship models.

I don't think that you read the proposal. The idea was that the primae model would be used for new ship types that fulfilled specialized roles that haven't already been filled. This would essentially be a reskin, allowing CCP to make the most use of the ship model.

When I was reading the back story on the Primae I was hoping they'd make a salvaging model too. The model is way to pretty to leave to just one ship.

I just recently moved to drone space and you have to pick, destroyer with many high slots but no cargo or industrial with next to no high slots and high ammounts of cargo. seeing as drones drop nothing but alloys picking between or using only 1 is a HUGE pain 2.) Decent cargo space too please, iv been struggling with a myrmidon or another BC just to fit the 5 harvesters and I can only use it in a fleet op unless I wanna jet can mine which isnt smart to began with no matter who you are or where you are. 3.) I dont agree to much with this last one sence unless you increase the cargo size to over 38K M3's my mark 5 no matter what you do is gonna hold more unless it can compress planet materials.

I agree. The Primae is a junker. The only thing it's actually good for is being a better shuttle. In fact, it's almost like the t2 version of a typical shuttle only that it has better cargo and a couple of slots. That's all it's good for at the moment.
I would recommend setting the ship up for its original purpose before ORE tried to scrap. Make it a more formidable salvage ship. Something that can out-salvage a Catalyst.

I fully support this idea.. the Primae's looks are just too cool not to have it around more.
All three ideas are good ones, since there's not ships that really fill that 'nice' that each idea adresses.

The primae looks really cool, yet it is completely and absolutely useless. Not even a total 0 day noob character could make any real use of it, as even the worst industrial is much better, more flexible and even included for free in the tutorials. There is no reason whatsoever to fly the primae. What a waste.
Whatever is done to this ship to make it better and a more regular sight in space is a good thing. Not doing anything would be a waste of good modelling and texture work.
The ship's background story dictates that there has to be a regular built salvage variant of it. Seed it. -- Smoke me a Rifter. I'll be back for lagfest. |

I am totally on board with making the ship useful, its a one of the best looking ships in the game.
Another idea is have a variant that allows you to have a more direct connection with the base planet side, maybe you can do a direct link to it if you are in orbit and it would allow materials to go straight from the command center to the ship itself. Also MOAR cargo space please!
