- Yulai was the trade hub - No TII, then Interceptors being introduced much later - Splash Damage torps that also blew up if they hit anything in their path - Dual MWD ships (BE and Dual MWD Ravens) - Helping to Build/Keep the location secret of the first titan, and feeding the Goons Misinformation through alliance mails. - Teamspeak when the first titan died due to Cyvok logging off - Being assembled around a station after an impending war dec from a then very young BE and rallying in everything from noob ships to cruisers with one or two battleships being the anchor of our fleet, and getting slaughtered. - Building the first true Empire in 0.0 Space, complete with stations and an almost full market. - Taking and holding a BoB owned station with one corporation of dedicated guys
... And lots more.

Yes Gatecamps always on the inbound. Only way to warp at 0 to a gate was with bookmarks. Autopilot distance was the closest none bm distance of warping to a gate. To Copy them took ages :p

Edited by: Redflare on 30/06/2010 22:53:31 I seem to be EVE's eternally-hopeless noob (5 years, maybe 12 months of those played, and a whopping 16 mil sp to my name), but i bring stories of old and awesome wars. Like ASCN vs BoB. Or when there was something awesome called the Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate.
Hm. A raven cost a little more then than now, and was uber. ASCN was the de-facto definition of pure awesomeness (absolutely no bias here :D).
OMG, how could I forget? NANO-BATTLESHIPS!
Oh, and @ eve devs, thanks a bunch for the free five day reactivation thing (and mining ship!). Can I haz eve cheezburger now?

My first PvP fight was during Beta 6 when there was Arkanor in various empire systems. My (minmatar RP) corp decided a dead-end empire system with stations and ark was an "amarr no fly zone", and I found some guy in an exectutioner (I think), so I killed him with my AB using (MWD didnt fit on frigs, they were one size only and used 50MW), blaster fitted rifter. :P
The first time I engaged a battleship in pvp, I was flying a slasher with a bunch of other people in frigs in Syndicate (I think), and we got into a fight with a Scorp that had 99% resists because shield hardeners were not stacking nerfed. He was hugging a station and every time we would start to do some damage, he'd dock and undock in 10 seconds because there was no aggression timer and it 100% repaired his shields. He then killed us all with torps which did full damage because there was no explosion velocity or radius for missiles.
I once engaged a geddeon, a tempest and an apoc with a tempest, killed their tempest and was almost done killing the geddeon when a raven came in and kicked my butt. I had jammed the geddeon with racials, nossed the apoc with 4 heavy noss, and tanked the tempest at close range until I killed it with torps. Had 3 freindly frigs tackling for me. Not that I'm all awesome or anything, but I had intel on their ship types and Nos and jammers were vastly overpowered at the point.
The first time I went looking for PvP (at the begining of beta 5, I think), I took a probe with blasters, flew 50 jumps from minmatar space to amarr space (no highway gates), shoot at (and missed) one imparior, then got killed by npcs. :P
The last time I used a crow, I had cruise missiles in my launchers and I was shooting at the CFS alongside the rest of the QDF and Black Avatar corp.
The first time I ever totally got my butt kicked while commanding a gang, it was by a bunch of Curse Alliance ravens with 2x MWDs torping us from 40km. +++ "Etiquette is for the Dojo. In war there is only victory or death." - Eiji Yoshikawa |

- FOTM Thorax with 7 heavy drones, light blasters and a plate. That thing could take on battleships solo. - The addition and later removal of highway stargates. These linked the centers of the empires with Yulai as the hub making that the main trade hub. - The first probe system. Taking 30+ min to find a target was normal if it could be found at all that is. - Missiles would explode on the first target they made contact with, even if it wasn't the intended target. - Shield booster being the only module that could be used while in warp. Yes only shield boosters, armor repairs where allowed a few patches later. - Being able to join various npc corporations including concord. - Armor Repairs where midslot items.
If you are interested in this type of stuff I would suggest reading the patchnotes. Especially the early ones can be very entertaining with fixes like NPCs no longer shooting their own missiles etc :)

i dont miss insta BMs (funking things sucked so bad!)
jumping into a system left you at a random piont rather than at the gate back.
dual mwd torp caracels were pure evil
first lvl 4 misisons were all large signle spawns that could be sniped from 100k easily alllll day long (cha ching!)
plexes were static, and not a plex just a single spawn that would respawn through the day
chaining belt rats (cha ching!)
a time before t2 and faction stuff (miner IIs being first proper t2 item)
pre HP buffs a cruiser had little more than a frigate does today
a time before random chance on ecm, then after the first addition to random chance the spare-mid-multi-ecm-no-brainer spree
NOS being THE ultility slot of choice
everyone local tanked, first came the shield booster phase then the armor buff came and everyone dual amour repped.
i STILL dont miss insta BMs (no really)
missiles hitting asteroids in the belts if the roid broke the misisles line of sight to target (and killing missile-using belt ratters manipulating the effcet)
torps had splash damage which could get you into ALOT of trouble in high sec, sorry Mr Police man.
i remember jumping into Yulia to sell my loot and narrowly missing being smartbombed to death by Zombie in "that incident"

One part of EVE history I played a role in is the discovery/invention of ninja salvaging. Back in 2007, it had been mentioned once or twice on the forums, as a hypothetical, that ISK might be made by scanning down mission runners and stealing the salvage, but few people were actually doing it. I went out, "invented" it (probably not the first, but it was an independent invention), spread the word, and taught it to my corporation.
Thats kind of like inventing "ratting"

started in late 04 some memories:
fof cruise were death to interceptors.
scorp was solo pwnmobile, until i bought a bpc and started mining for it. then was changed to ecm ship.
cycling heavy drones through retriever drone bay until i had 5 heavy drones controlled.
pressing alt (show all celestials) would show any cloaked ships on grid.
mad lvl 1 agent sending me two week old to clear the mara 4/10.
jaspet didn't have zydrine in it. then it did. then it didn't...
getting pwned by customs after one patch that made response to contraband include 'deadly force'.
worm and succubus bpc's from static lvl 1 plexs. \o/

Edited by: Fenris Ulfur on 01/07/2010 11:01:41 Well its been 7 years so I'll try to remember
- EVE was so seriously underpopulated that seeing another ship was a treat
- Hearing stories about far away empires lurking in Stain where every dream could come true
- Mining for 2 weeks in an Imicus to afford a Thorax and getting it blown up by a Moo gate camp
- Reading the manual that came with the game and reading the descriptions of the ships there and wondering when the Titans would be introduced
- Like someone said before; When NOS was a instant WIN button
- Scorpions where the most powerful ships in the game, and stories about them ran rampant among those without one to fly
- Interbus did actually haul player goods for a price
- Locating/Location Agents where almost a myth
- Missiles did 100% damage
- Using 10 drones on a couple of Gallente ships
- The Jove made an appearance once in a while
- You could run >1 MWD at once
- And probably much more I'm forgetting...
And this was offcourse way before anything added later like POS's, Outposts, NPC Faction ships, FW, Wormholes, Sleepers, Rogue Drones, Level 5 Missions, Epic Arcs, PI, Tech 2, Tech 3, Boosters, Jump Capable ships, Capital ships, Alliance Tournament and many more --------------------------------------------------------------------- "But rather than that you question my courage, let someone put his hand in my mouth as a pledge that this is done in good faith"

bugs i remember - when in warp you could activate mwd, coming out of warp you would have max speed immediately to approach gate -Route from A to B, you would go one way and the make it in reverse, by jumping back the route you would be spawning directly on the theoretical gate you would need to warp too, result, just needing to approach the out gate and jump
old school memories:
At the time there were no smuggler gates, so venal had just one entrance, umi-kk, the rest of tenal of branch was accessible only through that system!
Apoc sitting in the last system of branch which today connects, deklein in the north in an APOC:
4 tachyons, 4 miners II shield tanked
chaining 5x50k cruisers, "At the time you could keep one alive and slowly maybe after 30-40min of chaining you would have a continuous spawn of them 4 miners II on ABC ore, having mates hailing it all about 20jumps back to refining station, we even created a midpoint safe with secured cans!!
Jamming was different!
cycle jamming was the key back then, full racks of multi specs on a scorpion, 4x launchers 2x lasers
you would have maybe 6-7 targets open and activate all multi specs on one ship, rinse repeat on next!
when jumping through gate you would randomly spawn at a planet!
mine fields were created around these locations :)

All we had were shuttle, frigs, cruisers, battleships and industrials There was a highway between the 4 major hubs of the empires you could get all ores in every region there was actually a buff to Industrial cargo space about 7 years ago...I think Having a cruiser was an awesome experience If you flew in front of someone firing missiles, they would hit you Fun with mines, used to create massive mine fields and blow them up as they looked freaking cool. Still have the BPO's for 2 of them Thorax was the mining cruiser of choice, damn shame about the tiny cargo hold. People would tank sentries, until CCP boosted them Attacking NCP convoys used to be lucrative, this is where harvester drones came from (I think) Ginger magician, that guy was a freaking moron The T2 lottery and the backlash that caused to to some people gaining quite a few BPO's and many got nothing, hell, that whole debate whether we should get rid of BPO's is still going on today. Using directional scanner to find points of interest in space, many years before using probes. Those were great fun. First days of cosmos and datacore farming and hacking for books. Those were great isk earners, you could make hundreds of millions in a very short period of time.

Burn Eden's dreaded invincible fleet of Ravens with all dampers in the mids, all WCS in the lows, and torps in highs. They single handedly brought about CCP nerfing to those modules.
ECM with infinite range.
Ships that didn't bob when docked at station, and station 'orbit cam' that gave a slow and serene rotation of the camera around your ship while you remained docked. Taken out, for some reason, as soon as the game became so beautiful you needed the option.
Stations were ten times smaller than they are now, which I think looked much more realistic both inside and outside.
Bumpageddon
Scorpions with 8 MWD going at some percentage of an AU per second
