In before "games kill people", I'm sure the news are blowing the story out of proportion. People die all the time for weird reasons, this dude just happened to die while playing on an internet cafe. He might as well had been at home reading a book.
I also call bs on the "40 hours with no food or water". If there's something you will always get at an internet cafe is an endless supply of pizza and red bull. I've been online for 48 hours camping a gate, you don't die. The toon does die tho, cuz your brain gets descync and time-dilated. But you don't RL die.
PS: I usually don't joke about the dead but since the story looks full of BS to me... "Did he dropped any loot?" "This is the Ninja. He will scan you down; he will salvage your wrecks and there shall be no aggro" ~ The Story of the Ninja |

The young man died gaming.
Essentially he was doing what I too love to do, and have done previously for that length of time and longer.
Truly a tragedy.
I have no glib comment to make.
I have seen so much of it, that truly I know nothing of it, except that it embaces me.

This isn't the first time that I've seen an article about somebody dropping dead after a long period of marathon gaming.
Sep 17 2007 - Chinese man drops dead in internet cafe after 3-day gaming binge.
Fed 3 2012 - Gamer dies in Taiwan internet cafe after 23 hour league of legends session. Body goes unnoticed for 9 hours.
Aug 5 2005 - Man loses job, dies after playing starcraft for 50 hours straight.
March 15 2009 - WoW gamer kicked from guild - Too dead to login.
Nov 3 2005 - Young girl dies during WoW marathon, gets online funeral.
This is actually only a few of them.... IE: There isn't going to be a sudden uproar after the most recent. This has been happening for years now.
Don't get me wrong... I'm not trying to play it down and I agree it is sad. This is just to address any concerns that this one incident could lead to an uproar and cause any problems for gaming in general. |

I think much of the appeal of diablo 3, at least for some of these people, is that they added in a blizzard sanctioned real money cash auction house to sell items that you farmed in-game. |

Afaik ~ "A human body can survive 8-14 days without water depending on the person and how fast sweat, urine, and tears"
Lack of water wasn't it. Food wasn't it either, you can be a lot more days without food. Not moving for 40 hours? Come on! If haven't stay in bed longer than that during hangover-recovery, you haven't party hard enough.
And no I don't think it was the tears. Had he been playing EVE, maybe... but it wasn't so, no. "This is the Ninja. He will scan you down; he will salvage your wrecks and there shall be no aggro" ~ The Story of the Ninja |

Well obviously there were other factors... With some of the other people who have passed away under the same circumstances, it was various things such as stress, aneurysm/clots, etc.
I'm pretty sure that the individual likely wasn't in perfect health.
MSNBC is reporting that it was a clot, but who knows.
Also, he wasn't using an open terminal at the internet cafe. He had rented a private room there, so it's not like there was anybody else around to watch him or see what might have happened. |

Seriously I finished Diablo 3 once on normal. Enjoyed the story, now I avoid it unless someone I know is on it and wants me to play with them.
Maybe this guy was so close to defeating the Prime Evil on the super secret difficulty that Diablo reached through dimensions and killed him with dark magic? Pirates are red, buddies are blue,if you're unlucky enough to be orange,I'll f*cking kill you. |

You know, I just realized that there seems to be one thing in common with the majority of cases such as this.
While looking over the large number of news articles about people dying in net cafes while gaming, it reveals that the vast majority of them are Asians. |
