FAIL!
Posting on the forum != playing EvE....this is not TQ/SiSi
You've got some serious issues if you think protecting people from predators is catering to the lowest common denominator.
Posting on the forums of a game should carry with it the same anonymity that the game itself offers.

Nice...the danger/stranger fallacy. I bet you if we looked at all crimes, most get killed, ****d or stalked by someone they had contact with IRL. Fearmongering is just as ******ed as all your other whining.

Shifting the goalposts fallacy detected. And by what "natural law" is that implied? You are just making stuff up as you go along arn't you?

Ad hominem fallacy detected...that is a hattrick.
So because I have nothing to hide, don't fall for your fearmongering and your fallcies...I must be living in a "sad, pitiful, ignorant existence"...
You really got nothing, but cheesy fearmongering to advocate your desire to remain hidden and when people don't fall for that BS, you can only resort to Ad Hominem...classy *cough*

You seem to think this is some kind of "who can argue better contest". It's not.
The fact of the matter is, you seem lack any sort of respect for those who wish to keep their real life name, untied to their avatar name in a video game.
That reeks of selfishness.
End of story.

Pot, kettle, black again.. I am only looking for valid arguments, something you have an apprent lack of.
Quote: The fact of the matter is, you seem lack any sort of respect for those who wish to keep their real life name untied to their avatar name in a video game. A reasonable opinion as it has been the status quo of most games in the genre since inception.
Respect is something that is earned, not given per auto-pilot. And the status quo is what have forced Blizzrd to implemtn this...as the current soultion is broken...nice own goal

Exactly, it's easy to plug a real name into the internet and find their location.
Get a name from forum, then try facebook/myspace and look for landmarks in their pictures to see where hey hang out, out just use on of the online people finders that are just a google search away.

Do I have to remind you yet again, that you are not the center of the universe?
Just because no one harbours any malicious intent towards you here, in a small sub forum of a niche mmo with 300k players, doesn't mean that it will not happen elsewhere.
Would this be an anecdotal fallacy by your definition?

Dumbass posts his personal information to be found in one google search, and you think his biggest problem is his real name is shown on an MMO forum?
It isn't. Maybe it's a United States problem (seriously your privacy laws are a joke), but in most countries here in Europe, nothing short of personally requesting information at a town registrar would reveal where someone lives. Unless ofcourse you post it on your goddamn facebook page like an idiot, in which case your real name showing on the World of Warcraft forum is the least of your problems. |

No. I would view that as a privacy leak by CCP by posting my ACCOUNT PERSONAL DETAILS like that. It gives me more information to steal your identity and harass you in real life (and online). Actually its a good idea, more identity theft bait!
May aswell remove the forums if you do that. Free up some bandwith and servers.
Again you show your lack of thinking about the consquences of this kind of suggestion would have.
People get emotionally upset in games, they will try to get as much information on your for payback. Now you want to hand out REAL ACCOUNT PERSONAL DETAILS? Good idea, a bunch of wackjob's who get upset now start digging for more information on you, especially bad if you are a girl and a bunch of hormone raging virgins start stalking you online.

I was wondering when you'd show up...you are one of those types that only have balls behind the "safety" of a PC screen.
and no, it wouldn't be CCP posting your info...it would be YOU posting your own info.
But if you say that you will stop posting if CCP implements this...I only see it as a good thing.
If the trolls are scared...something tells this is just what we NEED here!
And why, if this is such a BIG issue...hasn't anyone dug something up on me? I have a unique name, only person in the wrold that have that name...and yet nobody can dig anything up?
I't speaks volumes about that it's not privacy that is the problem...but trolling that is. |

This is a terrible Idea. And before people start to get toe-to-toe with me on this, I'm going to make several statements here:
1. I do not own, nor have I ever owned a Bebo, Myspace, Facebook or any other social networking site account. 2. My email addresses do not have my first, nor last names in their information. 3. My name & number are NOT in the yellow pages or any other phone-book. 4. My name is not on a Faceplate on my door.
Now, before you say "Well if none of your info is available...you shouldn't be identifiable beyond your posts" I'd like to point out that as someone who is quite active in removing himself from the great Google and such, this idea is a landmine of stupidity; Not because it will eradicate trolling (It wont), Not because it it removes anonymity (Not everyone has a generic name, morons) but;
It is stupid, because should you end up in a situation where you have ****ed someone off, it gives them something to look for to find you outside of the internet (whether or not they find anything is completely irrelevant). The whole idea, in fact, is based around this function; and if you cannot understand why this is a bad thing then you're a complete tool.
People have been hunted down with less real life info than a name; giving them a full name is absolutely ridiculous. |

Have had some death treats on internet (get half of a clan in a game banned for cheating, and apparently they get pretty ****ed at you, then again in eve i got one in militia chat when we had talk with an ISD and i said i didnt shoot neutrals, even if FC ordered that, pretty easy to get them), including by one who made clear he knows my name. Cant really be bothered by it even with them knowing my name.

Thoughts on this? I have mixed feelings. On one hand the decline in trolls will be amazing, on the other full name disclosure might be somewhat excessive. I would have elected to display full first name, and first letter of one's last name.

I wonder how many female players they'll have within, say, a week after this gets introduced.
This is literally the stupidest thing I've ever seen an MMO company propose. It makes the NGE look like a stroke of customer-orientated design genius.

IS "moron" the word your people use for "female online gamer"?
Actually, if this change goes ahead it will be the word my people use as well. Because any women signing up to an MMO that enforced this policy would indeed be a moron.
Oh and hey - let's talk about national and racial stereotyping as well. Good job that kind of thing no longer happens any more, because no one is racist or nationalist any more. I'm so glad we live in such enlightened times that someone with a name like, say Mahmoud or Chen need have no apprehensions about being treated any differently by other players on the forums or in game because of what their name implies about their race, nation or religion
