Hail pilots. This idea that nagging back of my head; this module become like background, in fitting area. Like old MWD for any BSs and what not. Almost makes you feel that that second low slot is already reserved. Not much flexibility and choice there, is it? And i ask myself. Does its makes sense? Is it needed in its current state? This module went through years of eve's change and innovation. It's like Neanderthal in brave new world.
So i asking you, eve community. What your toughs about damage control module? Do we want reinvent it, and give it new purpose, in current environment? Do you think it become obsolete or morally outdated?
Drop your toughs how dev's can redo it, to make it more sensible or be more useful.

Edited by: Misanthra on 14/07/2010 04:19:14 don't have to fit a DCU II...its just fotm and if in organized pvp fleet fits ssya to fit....well then fit it. Non fleet ops...can get creative. Or with ships not with a standard fit. Friend I have fore example has a nasty jag fit...no dcu. Not even needed. nos keeps a perma running shield booster and cheaper dead space AB keeps up speed tank decent and can have loads of fun kiting and blowing as many drones as a vexor can spit out (he been playing the game a bit...can fly a ship well).
Look at your ships stats and such. Unless told to don't even dcu my caldari ships. Rig 2 weak spots, invul in mids. BCU, PDU lows. Primary wipes the shields, man just start picking a point to spam warp for the pod lol (scorpion an exception ofc....that usually armor tanks somewhat to free up mids for e-war). DCU II armor resist bonus not saving a drake if enough people in the alpha strike to beat the shields down quick lol.

Have the same thoughts actually, DCU is a must on almost all ships. Go to ship and modules threads, paste a fit and ppl will question "why no dcu?".
About revamping the module, i have no clue on how to do it. Probably make it so it'll repair damaged mods after overheating (with nanite paste as charges)? Or reduce the effect of overheating?
IDK really lol.

Not all ships. Thus, it does not need to be changed.

People who fit it on everything without question are just dumb imo. There are ships that have such a tiny amount of hull that if you were in a situation where you reached hull damage then it's the difference between lasting 5 seconds longer or 3.
Yes you can argue that it saves ships in dire situations but if you can find better uses for a lowslot then that could be just as effective (or better) in practical terms.
Take a Proteus for example - a lot of fits end up with like 19-23k+ actual armour hitpoints with hull being circa 2k points. If you got to a point where you were certain you were going to enter hull then you've got a fair amount of time to make good your escape, and if you can't then you were going to die anyway whether you had 60% hull resists on 2k hull or not.
DC2 is definitely one of those modules where it should be high on the priority list but fitting it absolutely without question is not very efficient imo.

If you can get whatever tank you are using's resist higher than it would be with the damage control and you are relative sure you wont take hull damage or know any hull damage will kill you anyway, then no need to fit a damage control. A lot of PVE fits fall into this category especially.
Also, on some ships, for example covert ops or stealth bombers, a damage control is pretty useless compared to the other mods you can put in the same spot.

To be fair, whether or not to fit a DCU in that case isn't typically a question of "do I want 2k more hull" as much as "Does this give me better EHP than the nth EANM?", a question that is made more complicated by that nice 15% bonus to all armor resists that doesn't factor in to stacking penalty ;)
