Ok, not been playing for long, but I keep hearing about all these alliances and stuff, but when checking the corp tab and looking at the alliances I don't see BoB or a few of the other alliances listed.
So how do you join an Alliance that isn't listed? If they are not listed, does that mean they aren't a real alliance?

They try to convince everyone that they are not an alliance. But they actually are, regardless what everyone says.

alĀliĀance 1. A close association of nations or other groups, formed to advance common interests or causes: an alliance of labor unions opposing the bill. 2. A formal agreement establishing such an association, especially an international treaty of friendship.

frigĀate ( P ) Pronunciation Key (frgt) n. A warship, usually of 4,000 to 9,000 displacement tons, that is larger than a destroyer and smaller than a cruiser, used primarily for escort duty.

If you feel an alliance in this game is as simple as a group of corps working together for a common goal, then I guess we fit that discription a bit. However, I feel an alliance is a group of corps that set up a council that makes choices for all the people within said alliance. We dont have that.

Yes, because CCP's lack of knowledge pertaining to how ships are classified has everything to do with the meaning of a basic English word like "alliance".
Are you saying my definition is wrong? You are not in fact a close association of groups formed to advance common interests? Oh, wait, I forgot. You're a close association of groups formed to advance Molle's interests.

Unfortunately, the definition of an alliance in Eve is measured against its appearance in the alliance screens of your corporation tab in the Neocom.
If they're not there, they're not an alliance.

So by your definition, the JQA Alliance basically doesn't exist. I'm sure they'll be glad to hear that.
Also, the Fade Union is still recognized by CONCORD, yet everyone knows they're dead. Are they more of an alliance than JQA?
The CONCORD system is not the only way of being an alliance.

Edited by: idimmu69 on 18/12/2004 21:56:05 All this controversy (spelling sucks today) about whether or not BoB is an alliance is really getting old. By saying that any two or more corps that enter into a friendship are an alliance, then every corp in eve (pretty much) would be in an alliance. Just about every corp in Eve has relationships with other corps. This does not make them an alliance, only friends with mutual interests.
Just my "personal" opinion. Please stop trying to lump BoB together as an alliance. We are "seperate" corporations, with individual goals. Sometimes these goals coincide, sometimes they don't. The point of not being a formal alliance really simplifies the problem of when these goals do not coincide.
As stated above, this reply is only personal opinion. Please do not flame. Just sharing my point of view
edit: to try and contribute something constructive to this reply. Informal groups/alliances/whatever are usually joined by applying to a member corp. If your application is accepted, then you'd be a part of said group/alliance/whatever. thanks

Not to mention that several large alliances sprung from the ground fully formed in late november.
That said, I have flown with BoB and know they don't operate like the other alliances, they are very informal. And you don't hear them *****ing about who is fighting the most, who deserves to be in charge etc etc. --------------------------------------------------

The useage of 'Alliance' in EVE is generally rather specific -- and it doesn't explain a case like BoB. BoB, as most of us know, stands for Band of Brothers -- and a band of brothers it is. There's no 'alliance application process,' no 'central council,' no 'alliance holding account' or the like -- we're an association of pilots who have fought together for long enough that we're like brothers. And what do brothers do? When their aims are the same, they act with unity and a great deal more closeness than most alliances will. When their aims are different, well -- like brothers, one wishes the other well and continues on.
