It is telling that the Orphanage cannot effectively squash a pvp alliance that is essentially, what, 1/5th its size. Now, it is not as though Snatch is hiding in stations or deep in 0.0. If that is not the case, which it is certainly is not, then what explains a Goliath of empire pvp like the 0rphanage being demolished by a David like Snatch?
First, not all the corporations in the 0rphange are awful. Project Nemesis is among the best merc corps in the game and relentless when it comes to killing hard to kill targets. Furthermore, select pilots in MBALM are superb, Rico Felix being one of them and Telshiah. Not to mention Helliot. These individuals are creative and driven at what they do. Others, like the Pit Boss and Viktor Vegas are sub par. The leader of an alliance flying a caracal to a fleet fight does not instill confidence in member pilots. And a sensor boosting, egomaniacal blow hard also does not make members feel squishy inside or bring out performance.
Now back to the central question: Why is a large empire pvp alliance having its a$# handed to it by an alliance with inferior numbers? I suggest to you that the answer to this question is found in the issue of quality. Now, there is quality in the 0rphange as I have said, but it is overpowered by rank mediocrity and noobishness. I would also add to this laziness. Sitting twenty ships on the Mad/Nia gate is a complete waste of resources and a mindless activity. It may garner some kills but not nurture skill in pilots.
The issue of quality is also directly related to a lack of good fleet commanders. I submit that there are less than five ôgoodö fleet commanders in the whole of the 0rphanage. On the other hand, Snatch certainly has more than five good fleet commanders in its roster and it shows in the statistics. Built into this lack of good leadership is an attitude among the 0rphanage of kill mail whoring. As stated before in this thread, there is no need for twenty people to be on a pod or a rookie ship. Finally, the largest corporation in the 0rphanage, MBALM, has an open-door recruitment policy, which means they take everyone from the best of the best to what one finds at the bottom of a barrel - brainless amoebas and used condoms. For example, it has been reported by anonymous sources that some members of MBALM ask on their alliance TS such whoppers as: ôIs it good to fit more than six sensor boosters on my ship?ö ôWhat does that red star mean?ö and the always comical, ôI canÆt understand why I couldnÆt dock. I stopped shooting. If you still have the guy pointed, you should be able to still dock, right?ö
To the best of my knowledge, Snatch has none of these problems and it shows in spades in the results, which are undisputable. If you have the isk, go with Snatch or even Solar Revenue Service, yet another example of the 0rphange not being able to curb stomp smaller but better organized and led opponents. I would add Everto Rex Regis to this list of quality. As it currently stands, the 0rphanage has some quality, principally in the form of the superb pilots of Project Nemesis. But the quality ends there and the mediocrity and stupidity begins and is endless.

Checking the boards on this... a cursory examination shows that the fight referenced was 20 Snatch against looks like 40 Orphanage.
It looks like Snatch killed 12 and lost 12. The only way I can see your stance of it being an ass kicking is that 3 of their ships were as expensive as your entire fleet. In my humble opinion, this is a flawed argument, as ISK is a relative thing, not a objective thing, so for some people billion isk ships are as throwaway as a typhoon. It also appears the extra expense allowed them to hold their own against twice the numbers.
Now I haven't thrown my hat into this whole mercenary commentary thats been going on in the forums for awhile now, but if I had to give an opinion of a fight in which someone fought 20 against 40, and brought billions of isk in ships and modules to the fight, I wouldn't go around saying they got their ass kicked. I'd be saying props.
Then again, I'd also say that I've never been impressed with Privateers, and Orphanage is basically Privateers with a Revlon Total-Makeover attached.

Actually the fight started with snatch blobbing a small camp on the ashab gate in mad, we had 12 mostly bcs and small ****, thye brought at least 5 neutral logistics pilots (whom we also killed) and the guys on the gate held as long as they could while we batphoned in the rest of the alliance
I flew 12 jumps to help out as the numbers at the time werent looking good
It was only due that we ended up with 40 people, the snatch guys also reshipped multiple times as the fight raged on for 20 minutes, with numbers growing steadily on each side
It was a great fight :)

What's with this spate of badly named alts turning up trying to talk crap about things they don't understand? Every organisation has strengths and weaknesses. This is true of mercenary groups as well, but very few of those that I know about are not honest about this.
If this was a review of a contract given to them, or part of some sort of merc comparison to genuinely help the community then we would be sympathetic. Generally C+P are very accepting of those that want to help the community. This isn't even genuine discussion - this is just polished smack talk.
What is your point here?

We came in and broke up one of their fail Otou -> camps during that war. We would have gotten more kills, if their entire fleet hadn't warped out when we jumped in. At least do some research, check killboards, etc. before running your mouth here and in local.
At least Rookie empire showed that they're afraid to fight a single Vindicator with 15+ guys, we know these guys are the experts on pvp.
Keep running into your alt corp by the way, we'll throw a dec your way as well.

Aint nothing "wrong" with The 0rphanage that wasnt "wrong" with Privateers. It's the same operation except Pitboss is organizing it a little harder and they recruited Project Nemesis to be their PVP powerhouse. Pitboss is undercutting the market on price to the degree (the war dec cost) that only single corporations can compete with them (corps can wardec at 2m intervals instead of 50m).
Luckily, that's fine with the rest of us because it's pretty well established that you get what you pay for. I've looked at Ad0pt's killboard quite a lot and it seems evident to me that PRONS and a few outstanding pilots are producing most of the PVP output for the alliance. Relative to Privateers, i'd say they're more aggressive in pursuing targets outside of trade hubs and the pipe connecting Amarr to Jita. But they can only be so many places at once and "on" all the time, so you get a fair bit of inconsistency.
One week they'll get thrashed by REPO and the next be able to draw them out into a couple fights and whoop em. But throughout it all they may only be able to do a fraction of the cost of the wardec in damage to some of their other targets. But, again, you cant hire any alliance against a given target for less, so ISK/pilot and that they are more successful than not, they're really your best bet.
Now how they RECRUIT given that their pilots have to pay out of pokcetfor war decs (the non contract ones, their kb has 13 campaigns and 14 contracts at this time) while some merc corps pay their pilots is a whole other question

huh? What alt corp? I am in the rookies, i am 23 days old and I just listen a lot....
some of gunmen used to be in rookies and still keep in touch, at the moment i cant fly a thing so why should i risk being another podded rookie... i will sit in station until my skills are enough to actually get into a decent ship

I would just like to make a correction with something that biggestboobies said.. Project Nemesis is not a merc corp. We've done merc jobs in the past and through the last year we've taken the occasional contract, and right now we happen to be in an alliance that accepts contracts, but Prons is not a merc corp. We shoot stuff and screw with people because it makes us happy and it makes us laugh, not because we get paid.
No offense to merc corps. We've been down that road and it's just not us. However, when somebody pays the orphanage to dec somebody, we gladly shoot the target because it's there.
In regards to the criticism of the other Orphanage corps, they've been a lot of fun to fly with. Some of the corps have some newer members, Prons included, and tbh the newer members have done a good job of listening and learning overall. I'd gladly take a younger player that wants to pvp and is willing to listen and learn over a ragey and jaded 100 mil sp char any day. As far as the criticism of camping chokepoints and trade hubs, it's generally not my cup of tea because I don't like to stay in one place for too long, but camping chokepoints and trade hubs when you have 89487378429 targets is a sound tactic, and a lot of good kills come from that. Remember, "mercs" generally don't get paid to put on a show, they usually get paid to inflict damage on a target.
As far as the other merc corps, Snatch is great at what they do. The way they fight reminds me of Prons a lot. Noir we know is good at what they do and extremely professional. Regarding the topic of this thread: I'm not really sure it's worth discussing. There are numerous factors involved, the majority of which you won't see anyone discuss here in some crap alt troll thread. It is what it is. Maybe kill ratio isn't everything, or maybe it is. It depends how you look at it.
Next we can start discussing why people think REPO were good when, frankly, they haven't been able to pvp properly in over two years. It's because people don't understand what's going on, and never will unless they're involved directly and see what means what.
Ambiguous enough? I shall now wait for my superiors to give me another order to stop posting.

We checked there several times, but it's lowsec, and if you are smart (like most of the lowsec <doom> pilots), you undock less. And if you're not smart, you're probably dead. If they'd been more active, we would have been ALL OVER that.
Being like 25 jumps away from our base of operations had an effect, too, I admit.

Hey biggestboobies, appreciate the compliment. Honestly tho, you are wrong in a few aspects. Mbalm does have an open door policy, but our efficiency is currently higher than the alliance. Project Nemesis is superb for sure, but you are overlooking plenty of other excellent pilots, and the contributions of the other corps. We have ex-Mercenary Forces, some of the better ex-TFS pilots. Plenty of ex-0.0 people who tired of the polotics and crap and just wanna have fun. All you have to do is hit corp stats on the alliance kb and it will show you some of the things you are saying are off base.
Also, The Pitboss rocks, the alliance could survive any pilot or corp leaving except maybe him. You have not seen him in action apparently. He is someone who has done it all 0.0, low sec, and empire wars. Great ecm pilot as well. He has probably saved me 100+ stilettos. Viktor Vegas has balls of steel by the way! 30 man enemy bs gang and his first words are usually "I will be bait!"
When talking with clients, we never claim to be the surgical assault force a Noir. or smaller more organized merc corps are. It is not like we lie.
Our pilots spend every waking moment online looking for stuff to shoot at. If that mindset gets some baited and ganked, It is better than them being a buncha cloaking/logoffsking panzies. 99% of Eve players spend every second trying to avoid PVP unless they are in fleets of 500 people. The "real" pvp so many of you talk of out in 0.0, where you target and activate modules on as many targets as possible so you are on as many kills as possible before you are primaried. No thanks.
Also disagree with The Orphanage being so closely associated with Privateers. In Privateers corps did not work together. Most actually hated each other. In Privateers I had to worry about alliance members as much as i did war targets. It was like being in an alliance with reds. People stole loot, didnt communicate, used peoples intel to leapfrog them and not involve them. Offered war targets isk to kill fellow privateers. It was ridiculous.
The Orphanage has a whole different culture really. Sharing of intel, donating loot and isk for more wars. Corps working together. The complete opposite of Privateers. The Orphanage is sustaining 10-14 wars a week. That is billions and billions. That does not happen without a team mentality.
As far as Snatch Victory handing us our asses, not sure around 50% efficiency is exactly that. Mbalms vs them is 68 by the way, not bad for a buncha noobs.. Solar Revenue Service decced us after leaving alliance and retracted war 3 days early after gettin smoked. So your example there is also a bit perplexing.
If you are a member, keep in mind we are not even 2 months old yet as an alliance, bound to have some growing pains, and yes, not quite where we want to be yet. Honestly tho it has been a lot of fun and this is a game yo. Games are for having fun. Hopefully people will learn a bit from the Snatch war.
Speaking of snatch, one of their members were glad we decced em cause they were bored and knew we would fight. Even been asked to make the war mutual. You dont gotta hate everyone you fight, or say this sucks, that sucks, you suck, he sucks, blah blah blah. Unless you are a privateer, then you hate blues, and yourself even.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. However, this does not erase the fact that the 0rphanage should be smoking ALL of its opponents given its size.
And in recent weeks, a ridiculous policy chilling speech has gone into effect. Although PB means well by his "can't we all just get along" policy, many members have been infuriated by not being able to speak their minds and being targeted by other members as so-called "racists."
Should member "A", who has a gripe with member "B", be able to call the other a racist and get him or her sanctioned? This has disgusted me in the past few weeks in addition to the other issues.

Ad0pt seems to be doing pretty good work to me... Snatch is a tight group that works effectively together, something that is harder for very large groups to achieve. I should know I used to fly with them ;)

Agreed. Orphanage should be curb stomping these guys into dust. Instead, an alliance 1/5th its size is making it look foolish. If you want to move beyond Privateers II you have to be able to smash such numerically inferior opponents. This speaks to crappy leadership all around. Oh, um, and noobs staying afk in major systems makes it hard to hunt emk!
It also makes it hard to play in such an alliance with a paranoid alliance leader sanctioning people for their speech all the time. Get out of your politically correct world and let people shoot the poop as they should be able to. And use better judgement as to what is hateful speech and what is joking around.

Regarding the topic of this thread: I'm not really sure it's worth discussing. First, not all the corporations in the 0rphange are awful. Project Nemesis is among the best merc corps in the game and relentless when it comes to killing hard to kill targets. Furthermore, select pilots in MBALM are superb, Rico Felix being one of them and Telshiah. Not to mention Helliot. These individuals are creative and driven at what they do. Others, like the Pit Boss and Viktor Vegas are sub par. The leader of an alliance flying a caracal to a fleet fight does not instill confidence in member pilots. And a sensor boosting, egomaniacal blow hard also does not make members feel squishy inside or bring out performance.
Now back to the central question: Why is a large empire pvp alliance having its a$# handed to it by an alliance with inferior numbers? I suggest to you that the answer to this question is found in the issue of quality. Now, there is quality in the 0rphange as I have said, but it is overpowered by rank mediocrity and noobishness. I would also add to this laziness. Sitting twenty ships on the Mad/Nia gate is a complete waste of resources and a mindless activity. It may garner some kills but not nurture skill in pilots.
The issue of quality is also directly related to a lack of good fleet commanders. I submit that there are less than five ôgoodö fleet commanders in the whole of the 0rphanage. On the other hand, Snatch certainly has more than five good fleet commanders in its roster and it shows in the statistics. Built into this lack of good leadership is an attitude among the 0rphanage of kill mail whoring. As stated before in this thread, there is no need for twenty people to be on a pod or a rookie ship. Finally, the largest corporation in the 0rphanage, MBALM, has an open-door recruitment policy, which means they take everyone from the best of the best to what one finds at the bottom of a barrel - brainless amoebas and used condoms. For example, it has been reported by anonymous sources that some members of MBALM ask on their alliance TS such whoppers as: ôIs it good to fit more than six sensor boosters on my ship?ö ôWhat does that red star mean?ö and the always comical, ôI canÆt understand why I couldnÆt dock. I stopped shooting. If you still have the guy pointed, you should be able to still dock, right?ö
To the best of my knowledge, Snatch has none of these problems and it shows in spades in the results, which are undisputable. If you have the isk, go with Snatch or even Solar Revenue Service, yet another example of the 0rphange not being able to curb stomp smaller but better organized and led opponents. I would add Everto Rex Regis to this list of quality. As it currently stands, the 0rphanage has some quality, principally in the form of the superb pilots of Project Nemesis. But the quality ends there and the mediocrity and stupidity begins and is endless.

I will give orphanage credit where it is due. They recognized the worthless nature of the ex repo members and showed them the door.
Lolz. Whilst boasting of their own individual ability, being tossed out of their peers alliances seems to speak the truth.
Make sure you keep a safe distance from these skags, as the droppings of fail may stick in close proximity.

Of course the 0rphanage is horrible.
All they do is station camp and run pipes in hisec while ganking lone targets. It's pretty hard to be good at PvP when your biggest target is the guy who just undocked his dramiel into your Vigilant and your 4 pals sitting right on the Dodixie M20 undock.
It's the same way that Noir. is horrible at anything other then uncloaking and ganking people.
The same way REPO was bad at anything other then jumping in and ganking mission runners.
The same way certain 0.0 power blocs are bad at anything other then getting a gang of 50 together to hunt 10 people in T1 cruisers.
Every pilot, every corporation, every alliance in this game has a way of playing EVE.
To me, alot of them are absolutely horrible at this game because they can't engage in even PvP and dont have a chance 1 on 1.
However, one of the cool things about EVE is for the most part, you can play it however you want.

The criticism might has to do with Orph having around 10 decs simultaneously; with so many targets of opportunity it is a good tactic to just sit on busy gates I suppose. Problem is that you won't get any smart and careful targets with that. We had the pleasure of being decced by them last week and they didn't get any kills on us because we were careful not to engage them on their terms and because they didn't give us much personal attention until the last few days.
If you scout, it is easy to avoid them. Chances are that they are not actively searching you and your members out due to having so many wardecs anyway. If one is camping you at a station, check nearby systems on an alt and you'll quickly find his 2-5 backup crew.
They have a good 'divide and conquer' tactic though, with players spread out over an area but closeby enough to assist each other when needed. Even if they didn't get kills on us they did managed to keep us from hunting our own wt's more freely which was annoying so I guess their contract was worth it.

Our little corp got decced by Snatch a while back, me being completely clueless I had to do a check on them and found that we should be careful a bit so I instructed my newbies to not be stupid and to pay attention, more than normal.
Luckily for us they had 4-5 other decs going and us NOT being in the jita-Amarr pipe much and being a very small, slippery target (as opposed to the constant big kills they got every day) means they didn't bother much with us.
Only real encounter was me in a Rifter vs a Rook and later on a harb and some other stuff and them trying to kill me on the gate while I kept jumping back and forth. I guess they figured out we were too small and not stupid enough to get killed easily so they buggered off.
So I guess if you want a merc to actually pay attention and put in effort you need to make sure that they don't have a ton of decs going already.

I was in the 0rphans for a while and finally quit last week.
this is my experiance with them:
They are very good at camping targets a hubs and shutting the target traffic dwn in those places. that means the enemy suffers quite a bit and not only couse they lose ships, they loose tradea dn other stuff that they cant move (if they dont use neutral alts to move stuff).
0rphans have most pipes covered too and quite a few side roads to catch ppl :)
why did i leave them? i HATE camping stations, camping gates and such. ir like to roam and look for my targets. because quite alot of the targets where big 0.0 alliances most of their members stayed out or blobbed the f** up :D i didnt get much of acctual pvp.
0rphans do have quite a few very good FCs and if needed they can whoop ass quite well. iv seen a few fights with 0rphans having lot less nrs than the enemy and in one case even out classed by ships(0rphans cruiser/bc recons, enemy mostly BS and few cruisers) and won.
but yeah... most the "action" is camping jita or other hubs and they are very good at doing that.
PS: Snatch was a good target :) even tho i only engaged them 2 times... both times hugging a station with my zealot.... had no backup and they had 5 or so... meh :P

Confirming that the orphanage has little skill. (great with out of alliance rr's tho :)
Yet to kill one of my Pirate BS *****es, tho not for lack of trying (and failing), but we may one day get another go at it :)

When we were dec'd by Snatch we were handing them their asses (those that had the balls to show up, that is) as well, and we were only 1/5th their size.
By the logic of the OP, this must surely make us a bunch of high-quality supercool ultra pvp'ers! Ha! 
Or maybe it just doesn't say anything...

I'd be interested to know how much money The Orphanage actually make out of these wardecs? I know it costs a lot to dec multiple alliances, but looking at your killboards it seems like you get a lot of tasty loot out of it.
