Edited by: Tal'' asir on 30/07/2010 19:49:51 Eve taught me there are other games worthy of my limited time.
At one time, no such game existed and I used to tell my corp and alliance, "Silly person, there is no //insert game name here//, there is only Eve."
Eve showed me there was true merit in "online" friends. I have a few close ones now. I have never met many of them but I talk with them often. Because of Eve. I thank CCP for this.
Eve taught me that a silly spaceship game could actually get the adrenaline rolling and get it rolling real fast. It taught me if I invest my valuable game time into saving in game money for a pixel spaceship, I would actually use tactics to prevent said pixel ship from exploding.
For seven years, I have played Eve online. It had its ups and it had its downs. Most times, my "online friends" are what brought me back to the game.
Since Dominion, I have had this huge feeling that CCP has bled much of the fun out of the game and have tipped the balance to where I can't find the motivation to log on. This is not due to no new content, but more due to the fact that the old content was getting hammerf*cked by idiot decisions to attempt to make the game more fun. And when the community railed against theses asinine decisions, CCP kept on trucking like the juggernaut it has become. Indifferent to the vision it had long ago and continued to ride on the coat-tails of its community.
7 years, 2 accounts. I still talk to my "online friends" as they are not "online" friends anymore but friends. Thanks CCP for that. I however must say goodbye to you. My brand new PS3 with assorted games, starcraft 2, and the upcoming Diablo 3 will now compete for my precious game time. I can't waste it waiting for my guns to cycle or the system to load etc.
As stated here before, I love Eve but that love is not unconditional. You have not met my conditions for many months. Too long you have promised the world and yet offered the complete opposite and expect me to choke it down.
When you listen to the community and fix the game and all the associated half releases, maybe then I will come back. But the ship has already left the station and you missed that opportunity.
Good luck!

Edited by: Interscene on 30/07/2010 20:03:10 CCP have on many occasions in the past suprised me, and suprised me a lot with their more human aspect. The fact that many of their blogs (even for concepts I dislike and/or consider time-wasters like PI) contain lots of comical illustrative sketches and are approached with a friendly manner, the fact that many of the devs post openly on the forums - something most MMORPGs would never allow their designers to do - and other little things.
Its the PR that I think most of hate. Its the feeling that your being given a canned bit of tosh that either came free with some business management software or was dreampt up by some consultant in blue-sky painted 'conceptualisation pod.'
Its when CCP say things to their making 'exponetial headway' it walks into the brick-wall of the fact that the latest new builds of EVE have introduced lag almost unseen before. I've been fighting in 'big fleets' in EVE since 2006 and I've never seen it as bad as it was last month. When they release bland PR as damage control to prevent the future consumer market being polluted without replying to players its terrible.
The subscription paying players right here right now who are the current community demand better than promises of future content. We DEMAND that lag be fixed and that CCP work on getting that in order for the thousands of players who want this done over WiS and other candy-glitter.
And to those who say "If you don't like it, quit." Seriously - STFU. Thats the sort of thing you expect to here from a banker or some other beaurocrat who has your money already and knows that you have no alternative. We pay money for this game, CCP works to provide a service on our approval. We have more than the right to take it or leave it. To pay money or quit. We have the right to DEMAND that CCP fixes lag and fixes the game. We have the right to DEMAND that current content be fixed and made streamlined, not bolstered with more glittery half-functional content.
A human response from CCP is what this crowd wants to hear, we don't want to read marketing blurb damage control to satiate people who may become future customers on The Escapist or MSN. We want to hear from the people who make and maintain this game we love - deep down somewhere in all of us posting in this thread - that they're listening and not just bullheadedly trying to steer us with PR damage control. This thread is speaking to the directors of CCP, to its creative directors and to its development team - NOT to its marketing department!!
We have the right to DEMAND better from the money we pay. ___
I'm not an IRON diplomat or a spokesmen, my words and opinions are my own. Good luck taking them off me, though. |

Ok i may have a minor cure to the lag issues. After years of having my skills nerfed, being encouraged to buy extra plex just to survive the game and haveing every indy need pandered too (less server intensive than pvp players) I have donated my stuff to the good guys of our awesome alliance and corporation and did the decent thing. Delete my characters and unsubscribe thus alleviating the extra load of my in game activity on the servers. i apologies to CCP for all the inconvenience my gaming has caused you and the extra investment in hardware that was required as the result of my activity and that of my friends on eve. As a result i am now doing you a favor and erasing the lot and finding something better to do with my time. I hope your partnership with Atari is a fruitfull and prosperous one and that Dust makes alot more money for you than eve has in its current lifetime. if I was a suspicious person i would suspect that this is a deliberate act to cut back on eve players for some unknown reason. Anyhow, hope the development deadlines are met and Atari give you all a nice big bonus. i am not going to go near another CCP again. o7 and fairwell.

im not impressed with the gm's as of late in the least bit, favoritism is shown. lets not forget the issue of loading grid and wtf clone vat... that is pure fail. how about fix the damned problems plaguing your game before you lose the dedicated pilots like myself who love what the game has potential of. BOTTOM LINE FIX THE DAMNED LAG, dont take 18months off to add new **** till the old is fixed. and work on your customer service its complete fail whale...

One of the reasons for this is CCP's attitude towards the issues with the core game design... maybe it is time to start to fix things CCP.

I wanted to quote a post in another thread that I think sums up very nicely CCP's recent missteps. This has been a serious of PR screwups.
Originally by: Hegbard
People don't complain about the CSM. This time the CSM actually did their job, published what was said by CCP, published their impressions of their meetings and that's what broke the camels back. After that CCP, in some genius flashes of bad marketing added to the fire by publishing a dev blog about how the CSM was in fact right and that CCP will no longer develop EVE Online the spaceship game, how CCP doesn't care about the current customers and how new customers are a much better source of income. Then in added hilarity, front page (and login) news invented some fancy words for describing lag as a feature and then to drive the "we have absolutely no clue about what our customers think" point home, some CCP dude makes a sticky asking us to vote for EVE as the online game of the year.
There were some minor incidents of Really Bad Public Relations in between, but those are the main highlights.
tl;dr - don't tell your customers you don't care about the product you sold them. And if you do, don't ask them to vote for you in a popularity contest a few days later.
CCP, you are playing some high stakes juggling here. It is pretty obvious your business model lately has been to slam in new shinys in the hope you can do just enough bug fixing along the way to keep people happy. You also seem to be really betting the house on Dust/Incarna making people happy enough that they will overlook the multitude of problems with the current game and also stick it out long enough to see those expansions.
Bite the bullet in two areas.
One. Delay something, spend 3 solid months with a big team doing nothing but major fixes. Delay whichever feature Incarna/Dust/World of Emoness will retain the most players come next year when StarWars MMO hits since its the most likely to steal from your playebase. Hiring a team isn't practical as the spinup time is too long. But you made a major understaffing mistake not hiring more people a year ago. You should correct that now, and be very vocal about how many people you are hiring, give people some hope you are going to turn this around, at least long term. Focus on some of the following as they affect the most people Lag/SOV/FactionWF/Balance and small things like rockets (which honestly here, how can you excuse rockets being broken for years, seriously).
Two. Upgrade your hardware, holy crap. I am sure many of my fellow IT industry people were extremely underwhelmed by the cluster hardware. You guys are in serious need of a hardware refresh. I applaud you for things like the RAM SAN and stackless. But you are starving the playerbase of cheap performance with those blades being well, lacking. CAPEX for this Is pretty damn minimal in the scheme of things. World of Emo sucking all the money away?

I would have voted yes after the wormhole expansion, not everyone like tech 3 ships but it did bring some new stuff on the table to play with , in my opinion that was an example of a good expansion. That tyrannis expansion ? I have watched the pre-release trailers, the nuking console players from orbit stuff, the advertisement trailers, you are no planet tyrant, you are just landing a few industrial modules on inhabited rocks , this was clearly false advertisment, you are not oppressing any population, ruling with an iron fist....its not pvp , you dont have to defend your installations,Its not even pve its strictly industrial clickfest i dont know anyone whos enjoying it. Now i heard most of the dev team is working on icarna, thats cool to have a 3D avatar , once incarna is released we will tailor our new awesomely good looking character walk a bit in and try the minigames.. and probabbly get bored of it after a week. This is to attract new customers ? Eve is way too complex for the wow kids and dress a barby crowd. 18 months of development to see gorean amarrians roleplayers running after naked matar slaves in jita station ... brrr Do you really want that ? theres already second life for that. Once you are bored of station you are back to the same old eve spaceship game with broken mechanism some untouched since 2003 (bounties for ex ) .
