Percivus thank you dude, thats pretty much the truth.
Simply doubling HP will of course make combat longer, but in some fights it will take nearly forever to kill a ship, no matter how crap the pilot, because they do have a limited understanding of their ship. In other types of combat your longevitiy is increased from 2 seconds to maybe 4.
If you look at survivability in space its pretty simple. If your opponent does more damage than you can repair/boost in a length of time then you cannot take that damage forever. Armor and shield HP doesnt determine your ability to survive, it determines how long you can survive if you cant deal with the damage. However in some cases you will see ships that can survive 1000x longer than other ships, after tanking and damage is considered, and this is crazy. Look at an Apoc, in order to beat an Apocs tank, supposing its not firing weapons, you need a hell of a lot of damage. Should you manage to beat its tank you will now need to do a hell of a lot of damage for a hell of a long time. DOT that people refer to here isnt real DOT, if a gun does 300hp damage every 4 seconds its REAL DOT on a tank could be 0.
Here is the issue, I fly a tempest, I armor tank it and fight at 25km, I know for a fact that an Apoc pilot who has spent as much time training for his ship as i have for mine will win unless he is retarded. however these changes seem to me to make it impossible to kill any Apoc e.g as long as the pilot is armor tanking with reps and hardners, regardless his skill, ILL RUN OUT OF AMMO. I know iv chosen the wrong ship for head to head slugfests, but iv always flown a Tempest and im attached to it, but I get upset when it gets harder and harder to match other pilots that use Ammar bs's no matter the comparison of SP's.
Personally I dont see WHY combat needs to be made longer, I personally feel bs's are pretty nearly balanced (Tempest could usemore damage ;) ) If I jump into a 10 bs camp alone then i expect to die fast, and i deserve to die fast. If I meet a foe's bs head to head then the fight can last for an hour, word. If im in a fleet battle then being a Tempest flyer gives me a certain degree of safety as no one thinks im particularly dangerous, even with these changes any ship is going down when 10-20 bs's fire at you, and FAST. Missiles have been made cheaper, and might be made smaller, and theyll need to be otherwise ammunition using bs's will be a hazard in fleet combat.
CCP I urge you to rethink this, if you have had a million petitons from people crying about losing ships to ganks inform them of the map feature, WCS, friends and backup arreys/named modules for tanking. Dont simply increase ship HP as HP is simply a lone factor out of THOUSANDS that determine (the fairly balanced imo) combat that goes on atm. People should learn to fight and tank before making remarks, those that do I beleive will be fairly happy, those that dont will forever moan.
