For 10 months I used these forums as a cure for my "Want-to-resub-to-eve-itis" ... then about 50 days ago, I was getting a flare up and I came by to see the flaming .. in order to lose interest in eve again. What I saw was much worse, it was compassion and intelligence, and almost NO flaming... I was shocked, I read more threads, more intelligence, little flaming... how it has changed in just 50 short days. What gives? Well I played eve for about 7 months the first time, I cringed at the bugs, but people said don't worry CCP will fix em, I saw new content delivered, I liked it, then there were new bugs, and people said don't worry CCP will take care of it... they persisted, there were imbalances and things that seemed so EASY to fix, things that if they were in any other MMO I would quit, as I would think they didn't have their shi*t together, but NOPE CCP did, they cared, they were working hard to make sure the old stuff got fixed, and I don't mean updated, but actually fix ERRORS... Well then at the last CSM meeting we found out that CCP doesn't think they need to fix the errors and well I think it shocked the hell out of people... I believe many people thought that CCP was going to one day just fix the stuff they said they would, that they would add meta levels to list view, that they would... the list goes on and on ... screenshots from 2007 released from CCP show an AMAZING HUD and layout of weapons and targets ... we thought we'd get it someday we didn't ... why? well it looks like they think we'll just keep playing their amazing game while they make it even more amazing, and who really cares about those little things... Wall of text crits you for 10,000.02 <<< don't forget that 0.02 is VERY important to display, ccp hot fixed that when it stopped showing up TO CCP: The implicit promise of polished quality keeps me playing through the rough times. Don't let the Trolls keep you from your goals.

I understand the angst over fleet lag, but I don't think it's accurate to say they don't care about it. Not when they're working on their 'fleet fights in a can', and hosting mass lag tests, and optimizing things in Tyrannis, and assigning multiple people to the issue, and giving updates on what they're doing to address it. You don't do these things if you don't care about an issue -- especially when it comes to having people work on the issue. People cost money, after all, and businesses don't devote money or people to something that they don't think affects them. This forum is increasingly reminding me of the Everquest Gameplay forums from years back, which were notorious for the rage spewed there (admittedly, I participated in those forums, though I like to think I wasn't as bad as some were!). If I recall correctly, they shut down that forum at one point -- it had ceased to be productive to have it open, and it didn't really represent the bulk of the people playing the game, even if there were some real issues at stake. Whatever issues people might have with the game, the overheated rhetoric and hate just doesn't help anyone, and doesn't help move this process forward. I could understand putting some pressure on CCP if they were pretending a particular issue doesn't exist, or insisting that, say, fleet lag doesn't need to be addressed at all, but none of those things are the case here. I mean, really, do you guys and gals think that these endless hatethreads are actually helping CCP find the source(s) of the lag issue? People keep saying, "Yeah, but this didn't happen before Dominion!" Maybe not, but if this was as simple as pulling out a change or two to make fleet lag go away, don't you think they'd have done that already, and saved themselves the trouble of all these lag tests? I doubt that they'll revert Tranquility to Apocrypha 1.5, either (I doubt they even could at this point). It really sucks that a new patch would introduce issues -- very frustrating, since normally newer versions of software are supposed to work better -- but they are where they are, now. They know they have an issue and are trying to fix it. Constructive criticism, fine -- but I don't see what purpose all the rage serves.

I find moderation on these forums to be fine: I've had a couple posts of mine being deleted when I clearly did cross the line with gratuitous flaming and personal insults, and that was fair... but on the other hand I wouldn't like it if the moderation became over-zealous and create a general atmosphere of censorship and inhibition. People will be people in online forums, in all their trash-talking infamy, and I'd rather see them freely speak their minds - as venomous and puerile as those may be - than seeing moderators actively deleting posts left and right, in a heavy handed attempt to bludgeon some sort of fake sense of harmony into these forums. The trash talk and rampant whining can be easily ignored, on some occasions it may even be amusing, and it's never been to the point of drowning in its cesspool the good discussions that also take place on these forums.

Anonymity makes a setting where there is a lack of consequences. The lack of consequences is the real reason behind the trashy behavior. We have all been on the road and had someone act like a huge moron. Even though we can see them, they have a almost no consequences for acting like a fool. Its not like we cant go buy an old pickup truck, reinforce the body with concrete, and start running these idiots off the road. They know this and act like who they really are. Trash. It seems like a forum warrior, by definition, would be someone that regularly posts on the forums and attempts to influence others and the game. I have, at times, been a forum warrior. Most of the people raging on the forums over this latest **up are not forum warriors. Alianne Cooper	Posted - 2010.08.01 23:48:00 - [64] I never expect much from people I encounter anonymously on the internet, and my experiences with MMOs prior to playing Eve mostly vindicated my preconception that all players (other than myself of course) had the maturity of 13-year olds and lived in their mother's basement. Throughout my time in Eve, I've noticed that these sort of players are the exception, and that most people I get to know have decent attitudes about others and the game. I think the flaming you see on the forums is not characteristic of the majority of Eve players, and I recommend you spend less time worrying about what forum posters such as myself have to say and more time playing the game itself and enjoying the excellent company to be found in it.
