The Combat Log would like a word with you. It wants to tell you exactly what is happening to your ship at any given time.

Posting your 0.01 isk is welcome. However, once is clearly pointed out that you (not being an IT engineer ect, not your fault) that such graphics effects only effect client systems, and can be turned off/lowered in the settings.... then drop the topic and back away from the keyboard. ^^
Also seriously I see the OP with a stupid post every 3 days, I would pay CCP to block him from the forums... oh well. >.>

Well, the biggest "effect" is the GUI itself. At full power, you win at least 35 FPS if you hide all windows... _______ With the NGE, I'm sorry about the mistake we made. We screwed up and didn't listen to the fans when we should have. - John Smedley, CEO of Sony Online Entertainment |

Born and raised in Texas, still live here. The few times I've been out of state and ate food at a different restaurant...
My first thought was "Why the hell does my food look like an art piece? My second thought was "And why is there so little of it?"
I figured out then that I'm better off making my own food wherever I go,

Originally by: Atticus Fynch I'm out mining using a survey thingy. I press it and the ship is enveloped in this subtle warbley scan effect.
Look...you really don't need an effect for every little thing in EVE. I believe the survey scanner is working just fine.
This would also cut down on wasted resources for useless effects, don't you think?
Now, having said that there are some effects that need buffing up. The warp effect for one. Very lame.
My 0.02 isk
I can run max graphics, including HDR and Shadows, @1600 x900 resolution, close up in a 300 man fleet fight with no graphical or pc lag. So it does not really bother me.
You should be able to turn certain graphics off yes, but remove them from the game no. Besides in 2-3 years even low end PCs will be able to run the really high graphics in decent size gang fights. Removing animations and such would be a step backwards, only to have to put them back in later.
It would be nice if they toned some of the various bright spots in some systems though like some anomolies/sites and the bloody sun.

Marginally useful with respect to why I'd like to be able to lookup effects ie I'd be prepared for them in-game before I am their target or for effects that don't have a target, but simply identify what a player is doing. Knowing what a player is doing via the effect I'd see in space I could then look into why/how that is useful if said non-existent archive didn't tell me, which my non-existent archive would cause it's cool like that.

Acutally most restaurants seem to have been infected with the master chef infection, you go in get a beautifully cooked meal arranged by an artist but tiny and very expensive, all you are paying for is the presentation becasue you get F-all food. The places where you go in pay your money and get pile of food for it are few and far bettween. I go to a restaurant for a good meal and if it's well cooked and lots of it presentation can go out the window :) |

Thought about your OP and I can't say I agree w/you. Eve should be a beautiful game all the way around no matter what your doing. Surveying a lone asteroid in a back end lonely system or fighting in a glorious large scale fleet battle for your own home. It's been visually dumbed down enough imo, It's time to make this game one, no, THE best looking mmo ever made! Cause let's face it, we all know it can be...

Well I hope they reduce the visual impact of some effects, such as sensor booster and ECCM (OMG ECCM). But I am slightly bias as I liked the old version of the sensor booster effect.

Edited by: Soon Shin on 19/08/2010 11:39:55 The only complaint I have is the some of the effects are unnecessarily large and loud. Sensor Booster and Tracking Computers are one example.
Some effects seem weak and lame like some of the weapons in this game. 1400mm seem to weak and dinky, Missiles look like a boring orange blob etc.

It would be nice if we could have more granularity in disabling effects, such as being able to disable effects by module group, or sub-group.
Some of those effects are just annoying, but I do like many that others find annoying.

Sensor Boosters are silly as well.
Interesting topic considering the new dev blog on the THIN client. Seems CCP agrees with you to some extent.
Effects on things that don't normally have physical effects (like scanning and sensor boosting) make thing more like magic and WOW than anything.
