Yes, a well tanked scorp can survive a 3BS spawn for a looooong time. Which is also what it'll need to kill it.
It's all about what you like tbh. A short range setup is just as effective as a long range one, since both do about equal damage (range means no lows needed for tanking, fit damage mods and tracking enhancers).
So what it comes down to is preference and loot grabbing mechanism.

I used to do long range until i realised how crap it is compared to going close.
Also 9/10 long range setups are teh sh1t if you get spawned on, which means you get scrambled and die. ___________________________ Chicks dig Brutor's |

Marcus Aurelius got it right. Warp to the bookmark, then to a roid right next to the Npc thus you're between 15 to 20km. Fire away!

I've tried both close and long range setups. I don't really consider mega pulse to be close range though
My close range setup was a mega with ions. The setup worked well against all but the most powerfull BS (Dread+) spawns. Against the upper level BS spawns cap sometimes became a problem for me.
The mega setup killed rats quickly, and allowed me to pick up loot very quickly (a big plus).
I've since switched to an Apoc however. Its massive cap recharge and larger powergrid are just too much of an advantange. The importance of not needing to constantly carry ammo is also very nice.
Both ships are very nice to npc with. With an Apoc however you get the added benefit of not having a resupply problem in deep space, and greater versatility. If you need to mine it doesn't get much better...taking a station...no ammo needed....all around good ship IMO.

close range for the win
you warp in close in your apoc, the npc bs will try to move out to their optimal range and to get there they will fly directly away from you with 0 transversal
thus they are nice and easy to rip apart with megapulse + multispecs
i've faught everything but serp bs which I hear come in close tho

Edited by: Puke Skystalker on 26/12/2004 12:03:06 Long range or short range can both be effective depending on the NPCs. I fly a raven, if im fighting bloods I kill them longe range, minimal tanking, MWD to keep at range, sensor booster, lots of damage mods. They die fast and never get close enough to land a shot on me. Angels on the other hand I prefer to engage at very close range and tank heavily. For me missle spamming NPC = close range, laser NPC = long range.

Use a close range heavy assault cruiser that has resists specific for the kind of npc's you are hunting, e.g. muninn for sansha's, deimos for serpentis, and so on.
Also use 2 hardeners on top of the high resists and you'll be fine. Watch out for cruisers and frigs more than battleships.

what ever to all long range freaks.
il give u the best recipe for npcing.
we take one unit of Apocolypse.
on there we put the folowing modules: 6 Mega pulses II 2 Malkuth siege launchers (lessest cpu)
4 Cap rechargers II
2 Large accomodations (better named is always welcome) 3 faction hardeners (depends on rat type) 1 faction cap power relay 1 heatsink II
now all named modules are in because they are needed to make it work ie fitting or cap wise.
if u have high enough skills this setup will run for ever and will kill anything it encounters.
ofcoarse this is an expensive and skill demanding setup but this kills anything out there that can spawn in the belts.
for loot picking use a friend or alt in a frigate with mwd.
u can make it as crasy as u want with named stuff, but this seems to work for me. --------------------------- new sig under construction |
