After the latest round of optimizations then Jita reached 1560 pilots tonight. Previous record was 1420 with the node fully loaded.

The changes we made will have a positive effect on all loaded nodes in the cluster with Jita and Fleet Fight nodes benefiting the most.

With 1.5k people in system, mod activation lag was bearable at 3-5 seconds. Deactivation lag was also not to bad at 15 seconds. Docking and undocking lag was also in normal 'jita' range.
PRVTR's approves of this patch. -------------

If all 1500 people started shooting eachother, the node would probably crash...

I was there around that time, and things were reasonably responsive for the things I was doing. :) Nice job guys.

Now move this same scenario to null sec where every single ship is activating mods to the count of hundreds of thousands of different things going on.

This is nice, really. I would, however, like to know how the chase for the real lag monster is proceeding, if you guys are able to divulge any information on that matter.
As far as I can see, this does not tackle the problem that appeared with the changes in Dominion. The last thing I read was that you were looking at some very old code. Has this yielded any results?

This particular optimization will apply there as well. It applies to all nodes and benefits most those that are heavily loaded (both long-term and short-term).
Jita is heavy on the Inventory System (items being moved back and forth, market items being bought and sold) and it also has other services active like other empire systems, such as Crime Watch (inter alia CONCORD). In systems in 0.0 then the Damage Tracker is most active but there is no Crime Watch there.

Yes, because clearly this isn't the lag monster you were looking for, move along. Really though, the lag monster comes from node resources being maxed out, and this latest optimization reduces the amount of work the location node (the one actually relevant when it comes to fighting) has to do. It reduces lag, in Jita and the big nullsec fights, by freeing up more resources. It's a not miracle solution, but it is a good step.
Also, Dominion lag wasn't ~actually~ Dominion. Read this thread if you actually care.

So basically you are bragging, about a FAILED objective of the developers to force the people to use multiple BIG market hubs.
For the new people: We used to have some sort of highways all over the map, so we could travel way better across the universe and everyone was buying/selling in YULAI. CCP removed these highways, and changed the gates towards Yulai to spread the people out. This didnt work, since JITA took over the main trade hub.
Pretty sad really.. that you now brag about numbers in jita.
So I suggest to put the highway gates back in the game, then you can even brag with higher numbers and all the players will be happy as well.
Of course, we never will get multiple BIG trade hubs, unless they put more 0.0 space in the left part of the map and the bottom left part. Its all too easily connected to the jita area now. Something amarr/tash-murkon, kor azor cant compete with.

Maybe CCP failed in the goal to remove one big market hub, but really, people are always going to find somewhere to congregate. It's still a good thing that we can have basicly 10% more people in Jita than before.

Absolutely! And I completely agree with you.
There was, however, code changes that did increase the load. CCP said they were looking at some very old code to find the cause, and as CCP Explorer kindly mentioned above, they are going to do a dev blog about it.
If those changes were not in Dominion, then I stand corrected, but I assume that Explorer's response can be seen as a confirmation that I wasn't completely lost.

Actually, from reading that thread I linked, I stand somewhat corrected. You said dominion and old code implying they were the same thing, thus my "no stfu"... it was more related to old code, like OLD code, and all the issues specific to dominion have already been fixed.

The Jita are an ethnic and linguistic group based in Mara Region in northern Tanzania, on the southeastern shore of Lake Victoria. In 1987 the Jita population was estimated to number 217,000. At least 1,560 of those appear to be starship pilots.
Whatever the explanation may be, the Jita sure are delicious.
