I'd like to ... SOME DAY,
NO! don't get stuck in this way of thinking.....don't do the "i want to do this SOME DAY" thing.....if you want to do it, then DO IT. train the bare minimum (you can be in a frig that can scram, web, use its tank, and use t1 guns so-so within 1 day!) and go out and do it.
there are certain things in EVE that go hand in hand. mining, manufacturing, research, and PI are slow, steady money that take very little involvement, both time-wise and brain-power-wise. not bad for alt characters, but it often won't keep you playing the game for very long as a primary activity (on the plus side, all of these but mining don't take up much in-game time).
missions and PvP use the same skillsets (to a degree....some skills won't help you much in the other one....some will), and are really two sides of the same coin. PvP is probably the most engaging task you can do in the game....the least repetitive, the most creative, etc. simply because of that human element. However, its also generally the least lucrative, and often LOSES you money. Hence missioning.....lucrative, and uses many of the same skills and modules. Many people in EVE mission to make money to support PvP (or mine to support PvP, or rat to support PvP, etc.)
exploration and wormhole living go together as well, though wormhole life also recommends itself to a competent combat pilot, scanning and hacking and archeological sites can be diverting and occasionally highly lucrative.....some research skills can help here.
finally, business, hauling, and spying. business (playing the market) is the biggest draw this game has for SOME PEOPLE. Y?ou can spend lots of time or no time at all doing. hauling generally goes with business due to moving goods for bigger profits. Spying, which normally wouldn't seem to go with these, is something that, like playing the market, is a unique feature of the game that interests many people. Also like the market, you can spend very little active time infiltrating other corps, or make it your total EVE-career, both with success (proportional to your real life skill at getting people to trust you...)
