Edited by: Frost88 on 26/12/2004 23:00:24 Kehmor and myself came across and interesting situation today. We were out hunting for a bit of a laugh, flying a blackbird (me) and a cyclone(Kehmor), hoping to ransom a player or two. It was in Orfrold that we found our first promising target (up until then a lonely stabber was all we had to satisfy our appetites). We came across Mosha in a tempest, apparently rat hunting or more likely guarding her companion BDG1 who seemed to be mining in an osprey. We engaged, I activated my jammers and Kehmor’s autocannons began tearing through the poorly tanked vessel. We got it to structure when we realised the pilot had logged off (causing Kehmor;s ransom demand to look rather foolish). I gave the call over teamspeak to finish her off when all of a sudden, despite our scramblers, her ship warped away. After a quick chat between Kehmor and GM Grettir and myself, we were rudely informed that logging out is perfectly acceptable.
Well… we will ignore that fact for a moment because the point I really wanted to flag up was surely this means it is pretty much impossible to kill a ship larger that yours if it logs off? An armour tanked apocalypse will have no trouble lasting two minutes in most circumstances and so a mere log off saves it. Me and Kehmor found our fire power was no sufficient to bring down the ship in the two minutes we were provided as we were set up primarily to stop it shooting us. So once again CCP proves that if you don’t have a battleship, you are nothing. At least that’s all I gather from it.

Edited by: Frost88 on 26/12/2004 23:05:01 Edited by: Frost88 on 26/12/2004 23:02:05 Update: Kehmor has since been threatened with a ban for petitioning it.
So we, petition someone exploiting, and we get banned. Awesome.
Another Update: He's been gagged now. ------------------------------------------------ I've always owned Kehmor, cheap as chips off Ebay

In another thread Oveur (IIRC) himself said this was a perfectly acceptable tactic.
You have no idea how made that makes me. I have to go kill bunny rabbits in WoW to work of my anger now. --------------------------------------------------

sigh... this is a real game killer, making log off a legal tactics is equally bad as making greifing legal...
in fact its worse since you are allowing out of game tactics to influence in-game success...
very bad call on the part of whoever made it legal..
even the paranoid has real enemies...

You should petition too for PKs sending gang invites to lure players in traps, PKs spamming private convos to prevent capsule warp and the list goes on. Why exactly should one loose his ship when some other one decided so ?
In this particular case, you deserve respect for attacking a BS with cruisers. I'm pretty much in small ships myself and do not like being forced into BS. You have my support for that. But if you are pirates and not PKs, why do you have to blow others' ships up ? I ask that because you said the Tempest was in structure already. I managed one to escape from a -10 PK and asked him afterwards why he wanted to destroy my miner if all he wanted was a ransom ? When the ship is gone and all it's equipment, there's no much point paying a ransom unless if you're foolish enough to spend a fortune in implants.
I guess pirates would get better support from CCP if the game wasn't plagued with PKs who shoot everything that moves and resort to cheap techniques to 'win'. I'm all for piracy, it's fun, it's necessary to the game experience, just like 0.0 wars, but when you get your ship blown up repeatedly (you know, PvE fitting against PvP fitting and stuff ?), it gets old, and the players defend themselves how they can, lame or not.
There are solutions to improve piracy, not many threads present them atm

Yerr you should because people get punnished for that.
Logging out however is fine, Ive never had to log out of PVP but ive heard logging out of an ebil NPC spawn works nicely. Handy for when an Arch Angel Seraphim pays you a visit. ---------------------------

What's especially fun is reporting a potential exploit to a GM, and having that GM threaten you with a ban for using an exploit. Thanks, GMs. Next time I'll just abuse it without telling you.
Bloody genius, these customer service drones.

didn't you have him warp scrambled? i thought scrambling stopped a log-off warp as normal
or did he have stabilisers on? __________________________________________

I guess the problem comes identifying the difference between people logging off and being logged off due to connection issues. Your Miner II perfectly blows up in its mount, wrecking for 900000000 damage. |

You should hold the ship in structure for a quick kill if/when he refuses to pay or if friends show up.
IMHO the timer for a ship disappearing in a PvP encounter (not PvE) should be at least 10mins.
