I have noticed a crash that happens off the esc window. Normally I suppose if u hit esc and then hit quit as soon as it us available the eve client should quit. But if I hit esc then hit quit as soon as it is available the client locks up. I then have to do a force quit. But if I hit esc then wait about 45 seconds before I hit the quit button it will shut down correctly most of the time. Running this on a brand new iMac with the latest os.

Issue remains in 1.0.5, other post recommend exiting with CMD-Q instead of ESC/Exit

I also just had to restart my MBP with Eve freezing on log off. I get it probably like 40% of the time. CMD Q doesn't work.

Same here. I'd say 40% sounds about right for having to do a hard restart on my machine. I'd say another 40% it doesn't shut down but lets me CMD-Tab to my desktop and I can force it to quit in Activity Monitor. Probably only about 20% of the time it will actually log off/shut down as designed.

I get this occasionally - but Force Quit works to kill the undying EVE.
More irritatingly, if I ever make the mistake of opening the still-broken (yes, I did what was suggested in the sticky: didn't work) in-game browser, then it frequently leaves a zombie process running that prevents EVE from being restarted. I have to go kill the cider process manually, and then I can get back in game. [center]--------------=o0O+O0o=-------------- Grand Vizier and General Factotum

CMD + Q doesn't work, it made my whole system (MBP) freeze using it. Perhaps it's CCP's way of keeping us in the game? |

Same problem here, but happens not all the time. MBP i7, Snow Leopard 10.6.4
Additional problem: When using ESC and then 'Log off' I often get an error from the C runtime lib. Client doesn't hang right away, I can log in again, etc. but (who would have guessed) is kinda unstable and eventually hangs.

Sometimes I can have bursts of several in a row if I'm switching chars frequently. Approximate crash frequency when quitting via 'Log Off' button in escape menu: I usually use Quit Game but I've observed the same lockup happen with Log Off at least once. Any noticeable change in crash frequency if in game browser is running when client is closed: Have not noticed the correlation previously. Given the broken state of the IGB on Mac due to the font problem I haven't used it in a while.

I can always hit Apple Opt ESC to force quit, but the program persists in my dock however nothing happens if I click on it and it does not appear in force quit menu. To actually exit the game I have to start eve again (nothing happens) but this time it will show up in my force quit menu and i can finally end the program.

Also, sometimes works fine when task switching, but sometimes other apps slow to crawl in manner similar to failed quit. |

I'm having just the opposite since installing the 1.2 update and patch. cmd-q hangs the system. Using the esc quit game method works. Left feedback on the 1.2 patch notes forum, figured I do so here as well.

Same issue: command-Q hangs the client. When this happens, activity monitor shows both cores being maxed out by system activity.
But quitting via control-Q works just fine.

I find this happens to me most after installing an optional patch. For example, after installing the 1.2 optional patch, Eve (eventually) reverted to the Finder, but (1) the Finder and all other apps were running REALLY slowly (like several seconds to respond to whatever my mouse was doing) and (2) the Eve app was still visible in Dock (with white triangle) but not in "Force Quit" dialog.
It seems to be specifically a login session based problem. I came in via ssh and there was no lag, and I was able to kill the offending Eve app and then restart it (with patch installed).
In contrast, attempting to even bring Terminal to the front and type in it was unworkably lagging. |

usually I have to terminate the process manually. esc+exit has a buffer overflow about every other time and the eve process locks up. ---
