How you been? Would love to get your ideas on this project, hit me up in game or post here when you are around :)
Siiee; I shall have a rethink about the signal strength suggestion. Whilst it wasnt on our initial design plan it would be nice to have the database as complete as it could be, if users think it is an important feature then we shall do our best to implement it.
SebN
Site Update: Constellation limted Search should be implemented within the next day or so.

Update:
Due to feedback we have now gone live with our implementation of current Constellation search. Please note, you are still able to search by signature id or region and signature type.
This should alleviate concerns regarding privacy and being able to "hunt down" the best systems. We feel that current constellation is a good compromise.
Please let us know what you think!

Just a few more thoughts or questions. Is this Database just for Cosmic Signatures or will the Database also include Cosmic Anomalys? If so, will there be an option to only show one or the other as well as both?
DMC
We have now added Anomaly to the available signature types, the majority of statistics tables have been updated to relfect this change, the others will follow shortly.
In regards of being able to filter the results between including anomalies and everything else, you will be able to distinguish what is an anomaly and what is an "unknown" now we have made the change. Is this what you mean?
Would appreciate your feedback on a new feature that we are planning.
Here are a few ideas that are in the pipeline.
Ability to comprehensively search/browse through you own historical results.
Ability to add comments and hints to your results so you can reference them in the future
Perhaps have a field where you could enter the isk value of each site (in terms of rewards gained) With a total isk gained somewhere on the journal mainpage
Ability to make your "exploration reports" available to your corp mates, perhaps allowing them to add their own notes.
You can view the post here on our forums.
edit: We have found a quicker way to implement the "Within constellation search" privacy feature. We shall be working on that in the not too distant future.
SebN
Thanks for the update.
As for the other ideas in the pipeline, sounds good except the one about listing the ISK value. That information can be listed in the 'Comments and Hints' section which will save you guys time and work on not having to program that. I think Items, Bounty's, Ores, etc gained from Exploration sites are too random with too many variables involved to accurately set a price.
Now about my previous question. I was actually asking if there is an option available with a drop down menu in the search to pick either Anomalys, Signatures or both.
The reason I ask this is because I have some systems that I do exploration in that have up to 2 dozen Cosmic Signatures with almost twice as many Cosmic Anomalys. That's a lot of entries to be viewed and if I only wanted to view Cosmic Anomalys, it would be a lot more user friendly with less searching if there was that option.
Anyway, I might be getting a bit confused since I haven't even logged in to the website yet. I'll definitely do that very soon before I add any more random thoughts or questions.
It seems to me that you guys have been very busy working overtime on this project. I must say I admire you all for spending your free time to develop this idea. I wish you all the very best and hope this application quickly performs much better than expected and soon becomes a 'Revered' and 'Cherished' name with all explorers.
I look forward to the next update on the progress of the website.

I don't do exploration that much, but I dabble in it now and again. Is it possible to opt in the information of the exact system I find sigs in, to help build a better database?

Hi Eno, When you submit data into the database the system name along with various other bits of information are stored. Only you are able to see the specific system (and corp mates if you choose to opt in). Is this what you meant by your question?
The foundations of the database are in place and running, we have members who are already eagerly entering data so give it a try.
DeMichael, Thank your for your kind words and suggestions they have been noted and we shall have a think about the filtering of anomalies. Yes we have been working "overtime" on the site for the past few weeks. When we went live with this project we knew that there were going to be some immediate changes that would need to be addressed, such as the newly implemented Constellation restriced Search and other privacy changes. This initial "push" of development needed to happen to make the site better for everyone.
We will continue to develop and improve the service for our members, and we consider every suggestion seriously as at the end of the day, we want you, as users to get what you want out of the site. We have many exciting ideas in the pipeline so why not log onto our forums and give us some feedback.
SebN
UPDATE: We are currently in the process of linking the security level of the system with each record and over the next day or so the results tables will be changed to reflect this.

Ah, I see. When I skimmed though the thread, I misunderstood what you posted early. I wanted to make sure that when I reported a site it would know the system name as well to have more data to work in.

Edited by: SebN on 07/09/2010 20:13:04 Edited by: SebN on 07/09/2010 20:10:06 Hey fellow Explorers,
Just an update on the status of the Exploration Database, we have just gone live with the first iteration of our new Journal system.
In this new area you are able to re-visit all of your old scanning results with ability to filter them.
You are also now able to attach private comments and hints to your historical data for quick referencing in the future.
We would love your feedback on this and welcome any new feature ideas. You are able to do this on our Feedback Forum
We are rapidly approaching the 100 member mark and are having more and more signups each day, so for this, we thank you. We hope to build a community with this website and we are currently on the right track due to you guys.
Kind Regards,
SebN

SebN, I logged in and started adding info on the exploration sites I found. Good job on the application. Hopefully the info can be used to determine a pattern.
I must say the interface is easy to work with and very user friendly which is always a good thing. I'll post a more insightful report about it after I've worked with it a few more times.

Interesting concept. In regards to the signal strength issue, with enough datapoints, the strengths could be averaged out to give a reliable average strength in the search results. Perhaps have the number of datapoints listed in small text next to the strength result so the user would have an idea how reliable the result is.
I think I'll take a look at the site just to see how it works. "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk." |

Hey Soldarius, thanks for the feedback, this lack of signature strength being recorded has been a fairly hot topic between myself and the other developer, and we are still deciding how best we can implement it. It will be coming though. As a note: At the moment you are able to record the signature stength yourself by adding notes within the Journal section.
Just as an update for the everyone, we broke the 1000th submission to the database this afternoon and we are extremely happy and gratefull to the players that are contributing. Over the past week the site has gained some attention and we have had over 700 submissions over this short period of time.
We have been constantly developing the site and optimising the overall speed of it since we have gone live, we have also added a few more statistics, but we are ALWAYS open to feedback.
Untill next time.

Hi Triumdicta, apologies for the 404, it all appears to be working now, I shall have to check through the logs to see what happened, but thanks for letting us know. In regards to registering, we have authentication on the page for the users benefit, it allows us to have personalised statistics linked with your account. We have been discussing the registration process for browsing internally and weighing up the benefits of both sides of the argument, it is something that we are aware of though, as we understand some people might be hesitant to register. We hope to come to a conclusion soon.
Untill next time.

Very nice, I like how it doesn't give specific information on location of sites yet it still gives a general idea what to expect from the Regions.
