Today is a memorable day. I am now stationed in Jita!
Why have I decided to spend this Sunday in this hotspot you might ask? And the answer is easy!
Originally by: CCP Shadow Have you ever wanted to bring Jita to its knees? CCP is inviting you to do just that on Sunday, September 5, 2010. We've established a dedicated node for Jita, backed up by new hardware, and now we want to put it to the test. We invite all capsuleers to join us in Jita between 20:00 and 21:00 UTC this Sunday, and help us set a new record for players logged into the trade hub."
So if you ever wanted to help out CCP with testing, but never wanted to go on SISI since its too much work? Or, maybe you just want shortcut CCPs el-system in London by overflowing their computer systems: this is your chance to do something without too much annoyance. Without too much bother! And with CCP permission!
So far the number is: 1600+
Cource: Jita! Time: 20:00 utc Bring: Beer!
Toast!

Been thinking of inviting concord on visit at 8pm utc by shooting someone, and then raise all powerful shields to attract all the concords I can! Should create some strain, no? Not decided though..

You cant smartbomb anywhere close to the station or gates to actually do anything.
However I never got a response on if doing the Orca+jettison 100 shuttles+smartbombing them 100km off station to do the concord swarm for this event will get me banned or not.

Remember, killing someone is not what we want to do in this session since it will be counterproductive! We want people to be in the system! although shooting someone just to attract Concord attention seems cool. Just remember to have spare ships in Jita!

Setting off smartbombs just for the sake of setting them off won't help much on what they are testing.
They are testing server side upgrades not client side. Only thing you will be doing is testing out how good peoples graphics cards are since thats mostly client side.
But yeah whatever floats you boat.

Doubtful considering Jita is on its own dedicated node. The lag you are experiencing is probably from a fight happening somewhere that is connected to that node. Maybe a lowsec fleet fight.

Is this some kind of scam, where CCP marks half their server farm as Jita, and then boast about it saying Jita can handle 2000 ppl.
My alt in Jita functions fine, but I can't even login anywhere else. Great job indeed.

Your ignorance annoys me. Please go read and understand the recent dev blogs about fighting lag before you run your mouth. CCP can't do what you just said, because they can't shard a local node over multiple servers. Yet.

No, I was trying to make a humorous introduction to my post on this thread, combining a little irony since the thread in general seems very positive with the Jita test, which contradicts my experience.
If I was theory-crafting, I would say you are a CCP alt.

If you mean in the number of blades, no. Jita runs on its own blade, as it always has, which usually runs maybe 50-60 nullsec systems, but that's it. It's also running a newer blade, but they'll all be upgraded "eventually".

Well Cat flat out said he was a posting alt, which is kind of obvious... And Zulu and Cat are confirmed to be the same person. And well, Liang's just... Liang..

I can't login to my alt in Jita anymore. When I try, I am asked to choose a nearby system for my ship to be towed to. Which I decline, since I don't even have a ship, and it's just a station alt.
I also still can't login to my other chars who are not in Jita. I am wondering if I am the only one affected by this.

Also, STUPID how fast it is filling atm. Barely 30 seconds since I posted the above screenshot and there's already 20 more people. ---

Graphic glitching is due to low video memory, low system memory or overheating gpu.....in my experience. The graphics are fine on my end.

We invite all capsuleers to join us in Jita between 20:00 and 21:00 UTC this Sunday, and help us set a new record for players logged into the trade hub."
Is this some kind of scam, where CCP marks half their server farm as Jita, and then boast about it saying Jita can handle 2000 ppl.
My alt in Jita functions fine, but I can't even login anywhere else. Great job indeed.
If only this were true. Currently, a solar system can only be supported by AT MAXIMUM, one single CPU core. If we were able to boost the performance of Jita by adding more nodes to it, then this would be a HUGE step in the right direction, and would be a good cause for many 0.0 denizens to be VERY excited. ----------

Browsing the market is regional, but buying/selling puts load on the local inventory node. Orbiting also puts load on the local node. Do both!

It's not lag - it's that the system (logging or jumping in) flat tells you you're not allowed in. Once in, lag is quite reasonable.

For me its about 15-20sec black screen when undocking and about another 20sec to load grid.. Which honestly is pretty good considering the situation.

Did some tests with the inventory. taking 15 stacks from a container to items takes atm around 6 to 8 secs, then the whole stuff just jumps to items. putting it back into the container is much slower (more than 30 secs for all) and the stacks move one by one. So it seems to start to hurt a bit.

What we really should do is everyone started shooting at the same time. Then turned of the gunning and put on shields instead to tank the concord. The massive concordokken that would appear would be massive!

Buy/Sell orders are currently pretty slow to receive items. Buying Trit 1 at a time and it's taking 30 seconds for each one to show up, even when purchasing them quickly. Selling is having the same issues.
But with 2k people in local and concord spawning everywhere I can kind of understand the issues.
One thing I noticed is that while undocked I saw concord spawn and circle people, neuting them and shooting but for several minutes they didn't die. It wasn't until I started targeting those people that it showed their ships as destroyed. Could be a bit of de-sync on my part but the cause is unknown to me.

Good job CCP we cant even bring jita down sice we cant jump there.
Also it is funny how in APOCRYPHA lag was 5 time less then now and CCP still have no clue what caused it.
Oh and someone should smartbomb jita gate at perimeter , so many ships nearby becuase they cant jump.

Actually if you are comparing the current situation in jita with that statement you are wrong. The lag in Jita is actually very bearable considering the current numbers. Now with 2k people in local the lag is about the same as 1k fight back pre-dominion if not alittle better. Module lag is present however manual cycling does still work, grid load is about 20-30sec, black screen during a session change is about the same 20-30sec which isnt bad at all.

Yeah, thats cool. I thought about trying to count but it would have been pretty futile with how fast things were moving. I don't know that I've ever seen 2000 people in a single system and it remain playable. There were definitely a couple hundred + outside 4-4, and grid load time was ~45 seconds with probably 2-3 seconds of module lag.
I'm really really surprised that it didn't black screen me. Really nice job on the hardware upgrade. Do you know what happened to all the "surrounding" systems mentioned in this thread and why they couldn't log in? There's specific timestamps and locations in the thread ... it'd be awesome to know whether the test really did affect other systems.

Not sure if it's of any interest but when I logged in, my character was in Jita 4-4. Like many others, I got told it was too congested and was given the option to enter another system. I picked one and logged in. Guess where I was? Jita 4-4!!

In-space lag was pretty painless about 3 second or so lag for me outside 4-4 in JITA with 2000+ in system. When I tried to dockup it was a different story, I didnt get a screenchange after docking approval for half a minute and then I just had a blackscreen for a I think 20 something seconds. Logged out after.

I definitely did see 2027, if all for an extremely short moment, but I do understand for your records you have to hit certain criteria. Even though it was visible to me at 2027, it may not have hit your set requirements to count.

My results:
Very terrible lag with the screen hanging up for up to a minute at time but I have an old system running XP and an nVidia 8600 GT card on a PCIe slot.
So I asked around to find the difference between server lag and client lag (rather than do the forum thing and put curses on CCP whilst using leetspeak).
I turned my graphics settings to "optimize for performance" (which is all the way down), and still had a hovering screen rate below 10. Someone said "turn off the overview" and that changed things a lot. There were moments where the screen hung for a few seconds or there would be around 10 seconds of a less than 10 FPS, but on the average I was getting an FPS in the upper 20s to low 30s at Jita 4-4. Elsewhere in the system I was over 100 fps.
Would have been a real test for Sansha to show up with a few wormholes and some carriers and about 150 Nightmares.

I was using a simpler overview - but keep in mind that at Jita 4-4 it was a bit crowded. Only three columns: icon, distance, and name. Brackets: Pilot Name, Ship Name, Ship type. My filters for that particular overview setting were for "all ships", no drones, stations, and gates. It would also include containers, wrecks, wormholes, warp bubbles, and basis POS armaments too. (It's my combat overview). Color backgrounds are in use up to and right before "Pilot has good standing" - the rest are not in use. All Ewar messages are in effect.
My PC was built 5 years ago (and been playing this game since 2006 on it) with 2004 parts. The video card, a GEForce 8600 with 512 MB memory, is an older card. I suspected that my PC is old and slow. It's time for a new computer.
