No one in Deviant art this evening has been able to answer my question and i don't seem to be getting anywhere with a petition on the subject
Can anyone confirm that hand drawings+photo's submitted in one of those formats are acceptable? Do they HAVE to be rendered through a program that's been suggested. And if so how the hell do you get it to save to jpg...
I would much prefer to be able to take an afternoon or two and draw these suckers rather than have to go through the process (especially when i dont know the programs) of rendering this son of a *****.

Good luck if you can beat people who do spaceship concept art for a LIVING! 
We have at least one advantage: We know the game. We know how each race looks acts and operates. We know their ship designs and we know how they'd design a NEW ship approximately. This will be a pretty large factor in judging: IS it a Caldari, Gallente, Amaar, Ducttape ship?

I have 10 prototypes i'm considering 5 caldari 5 Gallente
Battleship, Cruiser, Corvette, Strategic battleship, Command Ship for Gallente.
Cruiser HAC BS Siege Battlecruiser Frigate. For Caldari
And yes i know i've added 3 classes of ships NOT in game. I dont care.
Once i have a clarification on the rules i'll know what i can consider further. Hope i get it quick.

I think Konoch has it bang on. We have some great artists within the community. We know the material inside and out and we know how things should look to fit within the game.
I do have some reservations though. The shortlisting of the last 15 will be done entirely by the deviantart crew and not by ccp. In that regard how relevant any game knowledge will be is questionable.
One thing though if it's somebody who isn't an eve player who wins I hope to god he/she brings something really special to the table as the rest of us players will be utterly gutted :).
CCP i have to believe wouldn't allow THAT if they didn't trust that deviant art knew the game. This is a huge deal for Deviant art and no one wants this to be screwed up.

Well reading the DA terms it goes like this:
Your work will be judged on the basis of Originality, Creative Presentation of the Task, and Technical Artistic Skill.
15 Semi-Finalists will be selected by a panel of full-time deviantART Staff.
Notice it doesnt say your work will be judged on how it fits with the games established stylings. I can well imagine 15 deviantART staff looking at picture for the best baceship and liking the ones that sport chrome and fins because of the
beautiful highlights on the red nacelles or the way the x-wing shape goes with the pilots dark helmet.
That would be an out and out disaster for DA. CCP wouldnt accept any of them at all and i'll expound on this in a moment

Based on THIS i have to believe CCP is putting a LOT of faith in DA to pull the right 15 out of the box.
I could be wrong in all of this but the timing adds up (including the end date) and the style of ship they're allowing (anything sub capital) Would suggest to me that CCP wants a player designed ship as a mainstay of the game.

I'm having a hard time deciding.
I'm loving my new concept ideas. (Corvette Strategic Battleship and Siege Battlecruiser)But at the same time Gallente need a commandship they can be proud of. And the Caldari need a Cruiser with a bit more in looks. Hard choices especially since i'm assuming only one entry can be submitted.

I'm taking a swing at a strategic battleship. Gonna have a lot of fun with it!
On the otherhand...i might take a crack at a redesigned vindicator maybe a Rattle...who knows =)
